I can't find a veil to match. White is too light, but ivory is too dark!

Scheherezade · 26/12/2012 21:15

Photo of wedding dress uploaded to my profile! Although the lace looks a lot more strong contrast than it actually is - its more subtle than it looks in the photo.

LaminateFlaw · 27/12/2012 17:47

Can I join your quiche? I got engaged in August, date set for the end of July 2013...

I had the most underwhelming dress trying experience today Sad it was the first time I had been. Was I supposed to love it, be thrilled and cry at one of them? My Mum loved one of them and tried up talk me into it but I hated it; she scowled and made unpleasant comments at ones I liked, and I just feel a bit underwhelm by it all, like finding the dress is a big hassle I could do without.

GanglyGiraffe · 27/12/2012 18:49

Hello, can I join Smile

We are getting married in April 2013, which is only 3 months away! We have a DD who is 8 weeks old so I have only been in full blown planning mode for the month.

I brought my dress back in March last year. I was nearly 3 months pregnant at the time and suffering badly with morning sickness. Problem is I barely remember what it looks like, fingers crossed I still like it Confused My fitting is in Feb.

The venue does everything so I don't have to worry about caterers etc.

Still to do is:

Bridesmaid dresses (major headache!)
Suits
Flowers/ centre pieces
Band (nearly done)
Wedding songs (brides entrance etc)
Write/ post invitations
Cake

That's it... I think!

What part of your weddings are you most looking forward to? (Bar the getting married part obv!)

nightshade1 · 27/12/2012 19:12

roughtyping · 27/12/2012 23:19

Hello newbies :)

laminate I feel your personal hell Hmm. My mum is making every decision tense, horrible and full of tears. She just refuses to admit that she likes anything I do.

TobyLerone · 28/12/2012 00:18

Just popping in to say hi to the newbies (and congratulations!). Will be back when I'm not on my phone. Typing more than a few sentences on it drives me crazy!

I've got 15 days to go and I think I hate my dress. But then again, I hate all wedding dresses!

Laminate, could you go with a friend next time?

OP posts:
LaminateFlaw · 28/12/2012 23:53

I think I'm going to go with a friend next time. I sort of half want to go on my own but have a feeling that would be weird! It just feels a bit weird shopping without DP - he is so good with clothes and what suits, I just know I can't do this with him as much as he would love to come bridal flouncing with me Grin

I know what you mean, laminate. The only person I wanted to come dress shopping with me was DP. After all, I don't care what anyone else thinks of it. Only him.
Mind you, he'll LOVE it. It's all boobs and waist. I just wish I hadn't chosen something quite so "LOOK AT MY BOOBS!"

That's a bit reassuring, ruby. Thanks :) If I think about it though, I'm not sure I've ever liked it. I hated all of them, so just bought the first one I tried on. So I'd have hated whichever one I chose.

Ah well. 2 weeks to go and then it's all over and done with!

Toby, I keep thinking that I really want something that shows off my boobs but I know my mum would not approve...!

roughtyping · 29/12/2012 10:32

And I'm sure you'll love it after the wedding - it's what you're getting married in :)

TobyLerone · 30/12/2012 00:08

After the wedding it's getting cleaned and put on ebay/sent to the charity shop. No sentimental value here!

laminate I would take a friend and if your mum moans say something like you wanting it to be a surprise for her too?
toby a woman I know got married a few months ago and the day after she put pics on fb of her husband and kids wearing the dress, it was so funny I thought t was great but some were horrified. She said she would never wear it again so why not!

So I had a few scary emails xmas week....I am not getting married for 14 months but I have been told it is Mothers day weekend and 4 florists have said they cannot fit me in! The world has gone mad! I only want 2 bouquets and 5 buttonholes! Hardly a whole days work! People told me to wait til NY to book one so glad I didn't listen! Found a freelance woman who has worked in the two good florists locally but now only does weddings!

TobyLerone · 30/12/2012 12:41

That's crazy! But I suppose the bouquets and buttonholes are fairly time-consuming and not as high value as the number of bunches of mums' flowers they can punt out in the same amount of time. It seems a little mercenary to me, but I suppose that's why I don't have a business!

Glad you found one eventually :)

That's funny about your friend and her dress! I might do that too :o

Oh god there seems like so much to do. Trying to find cheapest tailor to alter my dress (waist too big, boobs too small, how depressing).

TobyLerone · 31/12/2012 01:08

Tell me about it!

Also, yes, I will give you a list of things I'm selling after the wedding before I ebay the lot. You don't want a dress which majorly emphasises the boobs while making the waist look relatively small, do you? Wink

Scheherezade · 31/12/2012 16:50

I think trying to coordinate an outfit with just one wedding dress is enough for me at the moment ;)

Veil; soft, or firm silk tulle? Pearls scattered all over, or scattered to edges? Centre or full gathered?

Seamstress said to find my lingerie before she does my measurements etc, so now I need to find a decent strapless bra. I honestly thought there would be a big relief once I got my dress - it's just created more hassle!

roughtyping · 31/12/2012 16:51

Scheherezade - Wonderbra ultimate strapless. DO IT!

Scheherezade · 31/12/2012 17:41
  • I had been looking at that one! I take it you recommend it? Is it suitable for smaller sized women? I'm a 34C.
Scheherezade · 31/12/2012 17:43

I couldn't care less if the bra is green with pink spots, I just want to look like I have a nice figure with the dress on! I honestly don't think DP would notice expensive underwear haha.

roughtyping · 31/12/2012 18:21

Well I am a 32FF and cannot get any other strapless bra to be supportive. This one is amazing - doesn't really feel like a strapless bra IYSWIM? Not sure about for smaller boobs but I imagine if it holds mine up it'll do a super job for you Grin
