Thats how that lady got started from her own wedding. A woman at work got a whole tray of 40 mismatched teacups and saucers for 3 pound at an auction te other week.
I don't know if you saw the thread where the woman did about a page of duffed links a while back...I did that whe I first came on mn and am too scared to do it again...I will try again on here sometime...luckily my crap name meant no one took much notice!

TobyLerone · 13/11/2012 17:22

Just do the link, like www.mumsnet.com or whatever, then click the box underneath the one you type in, just above where the 'Preview message' 'Post message' buttons are, which says 'Convert links automatically'.

That's the easiest, most foolproof way of doing it. I'm doing it right now!

OP posts:
TobyLerone · 13/11/2012 17:22

Type the link in, or copy and paste it.

memphis83 · 13/11/2012 20:35

is this box a recent thing? I am sure that wasn't there before?

www.urbanbride.co.uk for anyone who likes vintage headbands, this is the woman I am going to see hopefully next week as I am going in that direction to see a supplier. (hope link works)

memphis83 · 13/11/2012 20:36

toby thank you Thanks at long last I did it!

TobyLerone · 13/11/2012 21:33

YAY! :o

memphis83 · 13/11/2012 22:07

I am such a sad loser that I am pleased with myself....I was a bit fearful the link would work but to something awful like porn! (people in rl know I am a 60 yo technaphobe in a 29 yo body)

TobyLerone · 22/11/2012 08:37

It's all gone quiet!

I have to book an appointment to get my dress altered. I've been meaning to do it for weeks and keep putting it off. WHY AM I DOING THAT?!

Also, we're going to Selfridges on Sunday (with a 20 off voucher!) to get our Converse for the wedding. I'm much more excited about them than I am about the bloody dress :o

What news, bridezillas?

OP posts:
RedGreenRouge · 23/11/2012 18:42

DP and I had a fight and so I haven't done anything more about planning it. Blush

I did email one of our favourite venues and got a tentative email back, so we might actually do something in the next few days.

AKissIsNotAContract · 23/11/2012 18:47

We had an appointment last night with our drapes and lighting man. Other than that there's nothing to report, Just months of waiting now.

TobyLerone · 23/11/2012 19:14

Eeeek, RGR :( I hope everything is salvageable.

I just went to meet with our caterer at our venue with WeddingPlannerZilla. It was tense, but we've worked out how we'll lay out the tables so that we can still have a dance floor.

OP posts:
RedGreenRouge · 23/11/2012 19:53

It wasn't a break-up fight, just one of our routine bust-ups. We're both secretly excited about our wedding and have agreed to share the planning a bit more equally.

Is your wedding planner being difficult, Toby?

TobyLerone · 23/11/2012 21:22

Phew :) That sounds like it was fairly easily resolved.

My wedding planner is also my best friend of over 20 years. She worked in hotels for 10 years+ before she became a SAHM and so she knows what she's talking about.

Unfortunately, this means that she can be a leeeeeeetle patronising and a whole lot bit bossy. I know she doesn't mean to. But she simply cannot comprehend my preference for (naice) plastic glasses and (naice) paper tablecloths. I just want the staff to be able to gather everything up in the tablecloth at the end of the night and shove it in a binbag. I don't want to have to be returning hired linen and glasses in the days after the wedding.

And the fact that I refuse to have a seating plan is blowing her mind! She likes 3-course, sit-down dinners with swan-shaped napkins. She could orchestrate one of those with her hands tied behind her back. But my very laid-back wedding is giving her pain!

So basically when we met with the caterer this evening, she did a fair bit of talking over me and doing a weird kind of 'we're both in The Industry' ingratiating thing with him, rather than letting me ask my questions.

She absolutely does not realise she's doing this and would be mortified if I told her. And I would never tell her -- she's being a big help with a lot of things. I just have to suck it up. But it's a trial, and I'll be glad when it's all over and we can just go back to being friends!

7 weeks to go, thank goodness :o

OP posts:
RedGreenRouge · 23/11/2012 22:03

Into a binbag for recycling? Grin 7 weeks is really soon!

I'm quite glad that my best man is more concerned with his (quite amazing glittery) suit than any of my decisions. He might refuse to come without alcohol but that isn't very likely for our wedding! A knowledgable wedding planner like yours might be more useful, though...

TobyLerone · 24/11/2012 10:14

Sadly, our area is the worst in the country for recycling. So probably just in the bin, if I'm honest. I do try to recycle at home, but I'm not going round the room at the end of my wedding separating bottles into green and brown :o

I look forward to seeing the amazing glittery suit!

Ooh, I have news - bought my bridesmaids dresses! I had meant to get them together, try lots on etc, but I was in Debenhams last weekend and they had dresses that I had seen online at 50% off, then 10% more for opening a store card so couldn't say no! So that's quite exciting. And DP has chosen his suit, which I love without even any pressure from me with the choice :)

TobyLerone · 25/11/2012 17:33

Yay! What are they like?

Mine have all arrived now, and just need to get the girls to try them on.

Today we bought our matching Converse -- mine, DP's and DS's. DD has patent yellow Doc Martens which she wants to wear instead.

littlemissstan · 25/11/2012 18:04

Will try and link on phone - this is them:

littlemissstan · 25/11/2012 18:07

Hmm, that didn't work! Navy and strapless and knee length - from Debut range at Debenhams!

AKissIsNotAContract · 25/11/2012 18:08

I had an emotional moment with my younger brother asking him to do the brotherly equivalent of the father of the bride speech.

I love the idea of everyone in converse.

memphis83 · 25/11/2012 18:15

I went to Wakefield to meet the lady about tiara, picked a gorgeous one that she hadn't even finished making and its gorgeous. She is also making a wedding belt to tie in with it. I get the tiara this week.
I looked at suits to hire and got told te earlier I pick them them they freeze the price. But would it look odd if dp wore something different? I want him to be i the same colour but something different.

RedGreenRouge · 25/11/2012 18:29

memphis I don't see why it would look odd - your bridesmaids won't be wearing the same as you.

We picked our music this morning: quite a lot of Kiss, Aerosmith, Bowie and Kasabian. Some aof the songs are quite unromantic really Grin.

There's quite a trend of wedding converse on this thread!

memphis83 · 25/11/2012 19:06

Yes there is a Converse theme on the thread. My colour is navy so the flower girl and I will both have navy ones but I will put diamantes on her toes.
I am having one bridesmaid and a man of honour.

TobyLerone · 25/11/2012 22:31

Ours are navy too, but only because it's the only colour Selfridges had all 3 sizes in. I have other shoes for the ceremony. These are for the dancing/walking to the pub we're staying at after.

OP posts:
memphis83 · 25/11/2012 23:11

I picked navy when I had no bridesmaid so thought the men could wear navy. I am making navy bunting but need another colour to break it up.
My mil pulled a face when I suggested jam jars for tables telling me I NEED lilies and white roses, she wants it to be grand like Joan Collins' dressing room. She is going to hate our wedding, they have little money but like to pretend they have to people on outside so like showy ott things.
