Hello all :) just checking in. Just set a date for end of June. Got THE most beautiful, quaint little church m.pinterest.com/pin/452822937502978373/ . Then onto village hall for afternoon of fete fun, and evening party time :)

Scheherezade · 27/11/2012 19:04

Sorry
Church

Hi Scheherezade :)

Your church is lovely. Is that your Pinterest? I shall stalk follow you forthwith, if so!

I am supposed to be getting married next October. However if my groom doesn't find a job by March it simply wouldn't be possible to get everything in order in time. Seeing as he has only had temporary jobs for a year while looking for permanent work and getting nowhere so my excitement has been dampened. Alas, it will happen eventually so I'm joining in.

I have my dress picked out. It's a lovely Elie Saab alike from China. Luckily my best friend got her dress from the same seller back last year and hers was perfect so I'm feeling lucky but still holding a bit of budget back for alterations and the strengthening of seams if needed.

I am undecided on the colour of my bridesmaids though. They'll be in strapless chiffon floor length gowns with a sash tied with ribbon roses at the back (my bridesmaids are a size 8 and a size 26 so I wanted something to flatter both of them) and I know my young daughters will be in ivory.

Theme wise it's going to be elegant with some vintage elements. Any ideas of colours for the bridesmaids that go well with soft cream, white, ivory and gold? I was thinking a creamy beige or is that boring?

Congratulations to all getting married!

Scheherezade · 27/11/2012 20:13

Yes it is! Feel free to stalk, I'll return the favour as I'm always noseying interested in other peoples weddings!

ellargh - could you share your China seller? My mum has volunteered 1K to a dress, but the cheaper I can get it the better, the money can then go towards decorations and food.

Village hall, including tables, chairs, plates and cutlery is £95. Bargain. However, the hall is literally unlocked at 1pm, and we clear everything/lock as we leave. Which means some serious thought needs to go into how we are going to get everything set up and ready for guests. If it's good weather they can wait in the garden...but if its not then it could be tricky.

Ellargh - my theme colours are ivory, dusky rose pink and deep sapphire blue (to match my engagement ring). I'm having forget me nots for flowers.

TobyLerone · 27/11/2012 21:16

Hi ellargh :) Beige sounds lovely for your bridesmaids. Mine have all different dresses but they're all grey. I don't have a colour scheme.

Right. Stalking now, scheherezade. Your village hall is such a bargain Envy. We're getting married and having the reception all in the same place here and the hall alone is costing over £1000 :(

It's odd isn't it? But she just said £6ph, £20ph after 7pm. Tables/Chairs for 120, plates/glasses etc all kept in the kitchen. The hall is on my pinterest - the black and white building. It's less fancy inside than yours as it's used for a lot of stuff - scout meetings etc. Will have to think of a way to cover up the pre school wall displays Confused

Hall = 95, Chip van for 100 = £600. Then I'm making scones for after the chips, need to buy a load of tea and nice presse drink. Evening is a shed load of cheap booze, pot luck, plus we'll make some stuff. My friend is making the cake and 100 cupcakes, FIL doing the puddings and pate.

Gonna buy cheapo decorations off amazon/ebay. Best (wo)man is making tablecloths. Buy a load of cheap bunting. Make the games stalls.

I reckon it'll be under 5k. Mine and DPs mums are giving £1k.

Hopefully it can be done.

Scheherezade · 27/11/2012 22:53

that's tables/chairs for 120 people.

ellargh · 28/11/2012 01:56

Scheh item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewitem?itemId=251097824019&index=17&nav=SEARCH&nid=06299181588 this is my dress and the seller

I'm definitely leaning towards the beige for neutrals but am so inspired by the deep hues of sapphire blue and emerald green. I just love them but I think I will end up sticking to neutrals.

I'm having peonies and gypsophila bouquets and hopefully having it at the Masonic hall. It's beautiful there and relatively cheap. We wanted a sit down hot buffet/three course meal for 20 then an evening buffet of chip and bacon butties for the evening as its going to be quite intimate but then I think the big hall would look empty with just 20 in the day so I'm undecided. We're on a tight budget so we can't do much and a lot is DIY or second hand in the planning stages already.

The other option is to get married, go for a meal somewhere for us 15-20 and then meet up at a village hall for the evening but its much less grand than the Masonic Hal and I want to show off my dress Wink

TobyLerone · 28/11/2012 08:03

So why don't you have blue or green, ellargh? You can have what you want!

You're very lucky, scheherezade. It sounds really lovely :)
Speaking of pressés, has anyone got any recommendations?

Scheherezade · 28/11/2012 12:26

I wrote a guest list last night. Thought it would be around 50, we've got 120!! Need to do some decision making

ellargh · 28/11/2012 12:29

I just think it's not very 'me'. I really love it but I'm a fan of neutral themes with subtle colour here and there. I'm afraid bold dresses will lead to bold chair sashes and flowers to tie in etc and it won't look as good as it does on Pinterest.

Scheherezade · 28/11/2012 12:30

Instead of wedding gifts, can you ask people to pay for their meal, and that way you could have more!

Am so glad I've decided to plan it now, means I can buy the dresses and decorations in January sales!!

Scheherezade · 28/11/2012 12:32

You have to be careful of too much variation on cream, beige etc with white because it can look mucky next to clean white. If that makes sense.

ellargh · 28/11/2012 13:57

Maybe a deeper golden beige? My other choice was grey but I think I'd need silver accents with grey rather than gold.

Why is this decision the hardest for me? I even have a photographer lined up but the colours elude me.

TobyLerone · 28/11/2012 14:02

Scheherezade, why don't you price up a hog roast instead of fish and chips? Ours is costing about £800 for enough for over 100 people with salads, potatoes, bread rolls, stuffing and sauces. It's another alternative which might mean you don't need to trim numbers as much as you thought you might...

I think my problem is that I don't care what it looks like on Pinterest! My WeddingPlannerZilla is doing her nut about my refusal to have anything resembling a theme or colour scheme. And the fact that she can't make me have chair covers or sashes might actually lead her to be straight-jacketed at some point in the next 6 weeks :o

So if it were me, ellargh, I'd have the bright bridesmaids' dresses and bugger whether or not the sashes and flowers tie in! But I might be insane.

OP posts:
Scheherezade · 28/11/2012 14:35

I looked at hog roast but it seemed v pricey. Our fish and chips plus sides is only £600 for 100 guests.

ellargh · 28/11/2012 14:35

I'm not a huge fan of chair covers and sashes either. The chairs are red so gold/beige or red would tie in well!

TobyLerone · 28/11/2012 14:42

I really fancied a fish and chip van. Then I started a thread here to ask what people thought and the reaction was almost entirely negative :( I would LOVE to go to a wedding with a fish and chip van, though! The moaners can bring sandwiches :o

When we thought about it more, we realised that queueing outside for food in the dark in January wasn't the best idea, however delicious fish and chips are. In the summer, it would be amazing if we ignored all the other reasons that I got shot down when I asked!

I always think bridesmaids in red look amazing.

Scheherezade · 28/11/2012 16:16

Really? I've only read good stuff on here about them, its what convinced me to change my plans.

I've been thinking logistics. I think I'll hire the hall for 2 hours the night before to decorate walls and ceiling, put everything in the kitchen. The dance group that's in there before us says thats fine as long as the floor is clear.

I don't like chair covers, but we'll need them, the chairs are decent but worn, and a nice blue office polyester look.

I'm thinking of hiring the covers, getting the hire company to set them up whilst we're at the church, then its ready for when we're there.

Need to keep table decoration simple so its quick to put up. The tables are rectangular so maybe have long lines rather than separate tables?

Scheherezade · 28/11/2012 19:55

Oh, and my wedding is June 29th, so fingers crossed for sunny weather! I'm also from a seaside town originally, so my excuse is that it's a nod to my heritage Wink

Gold bridesmaids dresses are nice also if you don't want bold colours.

The chairs are black/blue at my hall, so maybe I'll keep them that way, and just have dark blue flowers on the table, forget me nots and blue bells/hyacinths/delphiniums or something.

I'm really struggling to think how to decorate the place. The ceiling has a massive beam in the middle which is fine, I was thinking of getting a string of rose fairy lights which are £8 for 6m on amazon. But the walls at either end have displays from the pre school, and the curtains are SHOCKING. I think the night before I'll pin the same material used for tablecloths over the curtains, and just take down some.

TobyLerone · 28/11/2012 20:03

Excellent idea to decorate the hall the night before! You could get a load of muslin by the yard and pin it up over the pre-school boards and the curtains. It's cheap. Also, B&Q have loads of Christmas lights on 3 for 2 at the moment if it's any use :)

I love blue flowers. I've been struggling to sort flowers today. My local wholesaler doesn't sell to the public, and I don't know anyone who does floristry for a living. I really wanted to buy the flowers and do them myself. I don't want them to look 'done', IYSWIM.
But I think I might have to get a florist to do my bouquet and buy loose flowers for the tables from them too.

OP posts:
Scheherezade · 28/11/2012 20:15

I think fairy lights will be even cheaper in January sales :)

I'd have to pay for the hours the night before, but only £20. I thought of just putting a sheet up, but it'll have to be done so it doesn't look cheap iyswim.

Can you get a wholesaler further afield to deliver? I've found a wholesaler, that's to decide after dresses and decorations. But I'm thinking just a simple post of forget me nots for bouquet

Scheherezade · 28/11/2012 20:18

I agree re flowers,I dont want any arrangements or sculptures. I'm getting married in a church in the country down a long winding track, I want the theme to be all simple English country
