Sounds like you're pretty organised, Vodka :) Other than confirming/firming up plans re your catering etc, I think you've got it.

Where are you having your reception? Will it need much decorating?

I went to the wedding fayre today, my photographer is booked. The package was fantastic, and there was a candy bar there that yu could fill a bag with so I got a huge bag of sweets too!

RedGreenRouge · 11/11/2012 14:21

I don't think you sound disorganised, Vodka! It sounds like a lovely family wedding.

TobyLerone · 11/11/2012 14:21

Ooooh, has your photographer got a website?

OP posts:
ViviPru · 11/11/2012 14:32

Yeah, memphis, who is your photographer?

Hi Vodka - have you seen any inspiration images of your dress?

memphis83 · 11/11/2012 19:08

Its kevinpaulphotographery.co.uk I don't know how to link. They have a pre wedding shoot which wee can make a family shoot, the albums are gorgeous and the mums will both get a tailored one each too. Two photographers, one will go on bus to get our guests en route so we don't miss anything and my ds loved him and his husband so this was a plus to me as he will show off and relax for the camera more.

memphis83 · 11/11/2012 19:53

Oh forgot to add we had been recommended him by a couple of people which is why we went to this fayre to see him.

louiespence · 12/11/2012 16:31

The photographer looks great Memphis ! Is that you all sorted now?

The date we are considering is Sunday 28th April, but I am not really sure if a Sunday wedding is a good idea? Has anyone else booked a Sunday or been to a Sunday wedding? I am worried that everyone will disappear early and the evening do will be a non-event!

memphis83 · 12/11/2012 17:08

louie I have ages to go til mine but wanted all the big things booked so I didnt have to worry got the dj to book and I realised I never actually booked the florist but will do both in new year.
I think Sunday weddings are getting more popular. I think close people would book the monday after off anyway but some may not want to, its a hard one.

TobyLerone · 12/11/2012 17:13

I've never been to a Sunday wedding but I think I'd have the same worries as you, louie. Does it have to be that date? Why a Sunday? If you did it the following Sunday, I think the Monday would be a bank holiday.

OP posts:
louiespence · 12/11/2012 17:39

The venue we like has no Saturdays left at all in 2013, and only a handful of Sundays! 28th April is nearest date to summer, then we are looking at November.. No Sundays next to bank hols or even school holidays at all!

Looks like I will have to compromise on day, year or venue! Have to decide my priorities I guess!

TobyLerone · 12/11/2012 17:54

What about a Friday? I'd rather take a Friday off work and have a long weekend than go to a wedding on a Sunday. That might just be me, though...

OP posts:
louiespence · 12/11/2012 18:01

The problem with the Fridays is that we have 12 school-aged children coming and they would have to take a day off school, which I suspect most parents wouldn't want. (There are no Fridays available in school holidays either, I checked!)

Definitely going to look at other venues now but I suspect we will have similar problems!

Now I know why everyone books so far in advance...Confused

TobyLerone · 12/11/2012 18:25

I didn't realise it was so difficult! Another point in favour of a winter wedding, it would seem! I got the Saturday I wanted, 5 months in advance.

OP posts:
memphis83 · 12/11/2012 19:25

louie what venue is it? My wedding is 17 months away and we were looking atvenues 24 months before wedding and some were booked up...nothing in my budget I just emailed venues to be nosey.

RedGreenRouge · 12/11/2012 20:08

We're quite easy on venues but still finding it hard to find suitable Saturdays in June/July (after dsd turns 18 but before the summer holidays).

louiespence · 12/11/2012 20:31

Rothley Court is the venue we really like Memphis , and it is very reasonably priced, but looks like a lot of other people like it too, so back to looking around for venues! The more I think about it, the more I think I really want a Saturday.

RGR , it's tricky isn't it! I thought venue would be the easy bit, but finding somewhere that's right, within budget, and more importantly available, is hard work!

RedGreenRouge · 12/11/2012 21:24

I thought that we'd find a venue immediately. We just want somewhere that we can decorate ourselves, drink our own cheap alcohol and play music until after midnight. It's proving impossible, though. Confused

Rothley Court is beautiful. Those doors...

memphis83 · 12/11/2012 23:11

louie that is the same chain as the Fieldhead we went to at the weekend their packages seem fantastic. Rothley Court is gorgeous. Are you going to move wedding date or venue then?

As table decorations I want little vases, cups and things dotted and the florist said to put them on mirrors but they are so dear for something so little! What is everyone doing for table decorations?

TobyLerone · 13/11/2012 08:16

We're having a mishmash of things on the tables. I'm doing some little pots of plants (some herbs rosemary, thyme, mint and maybe some winter pansies or something else which has flowers). We have sprayed the pots silver and decorated some with lace ribbon and some with raffia.
We're having jam jars covered with lace, a bit like this with candles in. They look really pretty when it's dark.

We have a load of mismatching jugs I've collected from charity shops etc, which will have flowers in, and loads of wine bottles, which we will spray with blackboard paint and put flowers in.

Absolutely nothing will match :o

OP posts:
memphis83 · 13/11/2012 10:28

toby I want mismatched so its good to know it won't look rubbish. i want the lace on jars as I can just take it from our shop so that will save money so maybe if I have little vases and bottles to have them all at different heights. I have also got blackboard hearts on sticks for table numbers as they were 50p from the wholesaler!

cat · 13/11/2012 10:55

We had a mish mash of cut glass vases all with different arrangements in them.

TobyLerone · 13/11/2012 14:00

Lace or lace ribbon sticks really well on jam jars with double-sided sellotape. Top tip :o

Also, I don't know if it'll look rubbish! It might Blush We'll know in 2 months.

I have seen it at a wedding fayre a local lady owns a vintage hire company called honeybeesvintageteas (still can't do a link) and her stuff is great...but on her site its a bit ott as she has everything she hires out in one place....but I did go round it thinking you could make that, you could do that. Grin

TobyLerone · 13/11/2012 16:53

Just in case you want to know, it tells you at the bottom of the page, next to the smileys, how to do a link :)

YY, my BFF and I have half-seriously considered doing something similar when we're done with my wedding.
