How much do you want A over B?

OP posts:
TobyLerone · 25/10/2012 09:42

You could always send her a v quick email to say you're away until Monday, and that you'll contact her then.

OP posts:
ViviPru · 25/10/2012 09:42

No, no commitment whatsoever yet, B just has the date pencilled in and Sunday's meeting was to just meet in person, see a couple of his full-length films and see how we feel.

I think they are both a very high standard technically, but slightly different in tone. A is slightly more romantic and gentle, whereas B is a bit more edgy and fun. A is probably the more higher-regarded in the industry and is more expensive, but B is still well renowned and still pretty pricey!

After I found out A was unavailable, I threw myself into appreciating all the ways B would suit us. Gah!

I think I want to meet with B on Sunday and get a feel for them, but not blow A off just yet in case I don't feel 100% decided after Sunday - just not sure how to word that to A...

ViviPru · 25/10/2012 09:43

That's a good suggestion Toby!

Edgy and fun sounds good, you'll want to watch it more.

ViviPru · 25/10/2012 13:46

Well we thought the style of B was more us, we're not remotely romantic...

Anyone else have anything wedding-related to report?

littlemissstan · 25/10/2012 13:50

I have booked my ice cream cart this morning if that is interesting to you :) I am also having a lengthy discussion with my wedding dress lady about having straps on my dress, which, if you would like a peek, will hopefully look something like this What do you all think?

AKissIsNotAContract · 25/10/2012 13:56

That's lovely littlemisstan, a bit like mine.

I looked into name changing last night. Bit surprised that I have 6 years left in my passport and they won't be added onto the new one.

ViviPru · 25/10/2012 14:03

Oh my word that's a bargain. I like how the 'straps' are integral to the bodice, not just an add-on.

I was watching Mary Berry on the Great British Food Revival last night doing about real dairy ice cream. I liked the look of that ice cream van from Manchester. Peanut butter and salt caramel ice cream? Yes please!

How has it worked for payment for the cart? Have you paid a flat fee or a £per head?

ViviPru · 25/10/2012 14:10

This was the ice cream van. It featured at this wedding

littlemissstan · 25/10/2012 14:11

Oh my god I was drooling at that ice cream! Mine is an ice cream bike rather than van, they have price brackets so a flat fee for up to xx people. We're serving it instead of canapes as much better value and more fun I think. You get to pick six flavours and they bring ice lollies too - here is their website: www.brockice.co.uk/index.html

I also like that the ice cream is made just up the road, as we're trying to be very local - florist, hairdresser and make up are all within 5 minutes walk of where we live and our menu features local sausages and mushrooms!

NumTum7 · 25/10/2012 14:23

littlemisstan we had an ice-cream trike and it was amazing! Ours was £300 unlimited for 3 hours (upto 100 guests) loads of extras thrown in like flakes, fudge sticks, sauces and sweets to decorate as they wanted. Everyone loved it - they are based in Somerset if anyone wants a recommendation. They also had garden games for hire which were very reasonable because they just bring it with them so no delivery charges Smile

ViviPru · 25/10/2012 14:24

That looks great. And a great idea to serve instead of canapes.

We're trying to keep ours local too, all the cheese will be from the region (not difficult in the east midlands - stilton, red leicester etc!) apart from the Snowdonia Black Bomber, but that's allowed as its my favourite and we wanted a nod to Wales somewhere at the wedding.

I hadn't thought of that passport thing, AKiss mine's go quite a bit left to run too... My friend who just got married said the worst part was doing all the official name changing. Apparently, quite a lot of organisations will only accept the original marriage certificate, not a copy.

Youremindmeofthebabe · 25/10/2012 14:25

The dress is lOvely, littlemiss. And the ice cream cart is such a good idea! I don't think there would be space for one at our venue, but I did toy with a sweetie cart idea.

Vivi I think you should Meet B first and go from there. Do you have your photographer sorted (if you are indeed having one!). And mmm to the caramel and peanut butter ice-cream! I blame GBBO for my waist expansion since ds2's birth. All I want to do is eat cake.

ViviPru · 25/10/2012 14:32

Yes, our photographer was the very first thing I booked, before the venue, even. She's amazing...

littlemissstan · 25/10/2012 15:33

Gorgeous photos on their website! I love our photographer too, I have put a couple of pics from our pre-wedding shoot on my profile if you want to see (and then you will also know what I mean about my boy hair :))

ViviPru · 25/10/2012 15:38

Fab pics and fab hair! Who is your photographer? (Photography is my big thing )

Absy · 25/10/2012 15:45

Hello, just thought i'd crash for a bit.

The name changing thing is a pain in the arse - I've only got about half way through (changed name at work, opened jt bank account in new name) and gave up. I have the forms for the passport change, but I have tickets booked in my old name in december, so need to do that trip first and can then change. What do you actually get - do you get a whole new passport which lasts 10 years, or just what remains on yours? And most importantly - same or old picture (my old picture is strangely ridiculously good. I do not look like it now)?

Thistledew · 25/10/2012 16:24

I managed to secure myself some backup shoes . I'm going to keep looking, but at least I now have something that I know will do.

I am half decided about what I want to do with flowers. I really like this simple <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=tulip+fishbowl+decoration&hl=en&safe=off&sa=X&biw=1265&bih=680&tbm=isch&prmd=imvns&tbnid=4HZuQbqxmzSusM:&imgrefurl=www.setyourscene.com.au/Decorative%2520Centrepieces.html&docid=kwJzfiNkyAcKHM&imgurl=www.setyourscene.com.au/Images/Centrepiece%252520Gallery/Decorative%252520Centerpieces/Red%252520Tulip%252520Fishbowl.jpg&w=359&h=367&ei=DFiJUL_tDa-z0QXHpIGQDQ&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=313&vpy=10&dur=13&hovh=227&hovw=222&tx=114&ty=108&sig=116350393033244521341&page=1&tbnh=129&tbnw=126&start=0&ndsp=19&ved=1t:429,r:14,s:0,i:112" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">fishbowl arrangement, but am not sure whether I will have it done with tulips - if so, whether I go for dark red and/or a deep golden colour, or whether I go for <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=calla+fishbowl+decoration&hl=en&safe=off&biw=1265&bih=680&tbm=isch&tbnid=pOOFKoWLhZUg1M:&imgrefurl=www.emeraldinteriordesign.ie/blog/the-devil-is-in-the-detail/&docid=sE0WOpinhAC70M&imgurl=www.emeraldinteriordesign.ie/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/mango_calla_fishbowl.jpg&w=325&h=243&ei=s1iJUJyWMPST0QWG5YDABA&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=339&vpy=268&dur=771&hovh=194&hovw=260&tx=140&ty=107&sig=116350393033244521341&page=1&tbnh=145&tbnw=179&start=0&ndsp=19&ved=1t:429,r:13,s:0,i:106" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">calla lilies like this.

I have a similar dilemma with regards to the sashes for the chairs - whether to go for burgundy, deep gold or a mixture of the two. My colour theme for the wedding is deep gold/bronze at the moment - my dress is this colour as are the invites. However, I love deep burgundy reds, and am undecided as to whether to stick to one colour or have two.

Any thoughts?

RedGreenRouge · 25/10/2012 16:28

At the moment, we're thinking [http://www.ghillie-dhu.co.uk/pages/1143/ this] or [http://www.arta.co.uk/ this] for the legal civil ceremony, cat. We haven't found anywhere yet to have the blessing.

Thistle, is it cheaper to just have one?

littlemissstan · 25/10/2012 16:28

It's Emma Lucy She is just so lovely, she did a friend's wedding and I loved that one so much I was sold :)

I was trying to make a list the other day of places I need to change my name. It was depressingly long! My colleague has just had her 5th wedding anniversary and her pension is still in her maiden name as the company want the original wedding certificate sending to them but will not promise to return it via registered post...

RedGreenRouge · 25/10/2012 16:30

Oops, this or this

TobyLerone · 25/10/2012 16:42

Both gorgeous, RGR :)

Lovely dress, stan, and fab photos!

An ice cream bike/van is a great idea. Wish I could do it, but in January I don't think it would go down too well :o

Well done on the backup shoes, Thistle. That's a weight off.

Our rings are in, so we're going to collect them on Saturday. That's all I have to report!

OP posts:
ViviPru · 25/10/2012 16:51

Wow Ghillie Dhu looks incredible, RGR. Excuse my ignorance, but does a civil partnership follow roughly the same rules and regulations as a civil marriage? By that I mean in England you have to have a legal ceremony with a registrar at a registered venue, and in Scotland the same but also can be conducted by a Humanist Celebrant or out-doors?

What is the nature of the blessing you're hoping to have? Were you planning on having your reception as well as legal ceremony at one of those venues... in which case when does the blessing fit in?

Photographer looks fab stan - I remember her being featured on RMW before.

Thistle sounds like your dress is going to be a very specific shade that might be harder to match so bringing in the deep red/burgundy might make life easier. I like the idea of a burgundy as a contrast to the bronze - I like the shade of burgundy featured in the dresses/groomsmen's ties here.

Hi Absy namechange sounds like a massive chore Sad
