Weather - Looking towards Easter

My main message is don't be fooled by the milder temps and sunshine we have had recently. It looks like winter is returning next week. Certianly blow freezing temps at night for many.
and snow.
yup snow. From the midlands into northern england there looks to be a decent chance of snowand temps cold enough in parts for it perhaps to be a problem. The potential for this starts early next week I'm afraid, with heavy rain showing for many too.

Early for forecasting the Easter weekend itself - but it does not look warm and sunny.

It's looking pretty bad in some places already:

can we have a giant MN om (everyone sit, close eyes, pinch fingers in upwards fashion and say Ommmmmmmmm) and om some high pressure in for Easter weekend.
at least we're not camping this easter, like we were last year, however, we are going to north devon for the weekend, and while the forecast is mostly dry and a little sunny, i could do with a high of more than 7 degrees C!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/03/2010 16:36

good golly uglymugly - with conditions set to get worse tonight, its pretty dire.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/03/2010 19:38

oh gosh duckfuzz is right
this really does need to be taken seriously people in the area - as I said, disruption to power and transport. Has already happened and will continuw through the night.

Just to reiterate - the warnings are for: Severe Gales/Storms, Severe Blizzards & Severe Drifting Snow for Northern Ireland, and all of Eastern Scotland, with western parts also having severe weather.

God a freezing easter and a potential rail strike is going to be fun school holiday!

Wallace · 30/03/2010 19:54

snow snow and more snow

uglymugly · 30/03/2010 19:56

Central Hampshire area. Brief hail (small grain) in last half hour; a couple of hours earlier a brilliant rainbow.

I "followed" the rainbow as I was going down to the local shops. In between marvelling at the strong colours I had to make sure I didn't barge into the young woman ahead of me who was taking multiple photos on her phone. Bless young people and their enthusiasm and their marvellous technology.

(Note to self: buy a mobile that takes pictures.)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/03/2010 19:56

What are conditions like Wallace? other than snow?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/03/2010 20:02

22,000 homes were cut off today

OP posts:
Wallace · 30/03/2010 20:15

very very windy.

Still have power but lights have been flickering this evening.

WineBeforePearls · 30/03/2010 20:21

Here in Fife it's been blowing a gale and sleeting all day and now the lights are flickering ...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/03/2010 20:22

oh blimey, I hope the both of you keep your power.

OP posts:
WineBeforePearls · 30/03/2010 20:24

We seem to lose ours if a cow farts near the pylons so I'm clutching my torch already.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/03/2010 20:29

it is guaranteed that you will put it down absent mindedly somewhere and the power will then go out.
sellotape it around your neck!

Wallace · 30/03/2010 20:31

We have candles and matches on the mantlepiece so I should be able to find them by the light of the fire...

WineBeforePearls · 30/03/2010 20:35

Yes last time I put it down, then went upstairs, at which point of course it all went black and I had to feel my way back down, COULD not find about 3 doors, stumbled to the kitchen and finally found it.

But the top time was when in the bath and all 3 dds woke up simultaneously without their nightlights on and SCREAMED.

WineBeforePearls · 30/03/2010 20:37

Wallace, you see you are sensible. I have matches but only very melted candle stubs.

DH of course is 500 miles away in luxury hotel.

ShrinkingViolet · 30/03/2010 22:41

OYBBK - do I want to know about Edale in Derbyshire for DDs DofE? Has the forecast improved any, she asks hopefully?

Frizbe · 30/03/2010 22:53
