Weather - Looking towards Easter

My main message is don't be fooled by the milder temps and sunshine we have had recently. It looks like winter is returning next week. Certianly blow freezing temps at night for many.
and snow.
yup snow. From the midlands into northern england there looks to be a decent chance of snowand temps cold enough in parts for it perhaps to be a problem. The potential for this starts early next week I'm afraid, with heavy rain showing for many too.

Early for forecasting the Easter weekend itself - but it does not look warm and sunny.

Shrinkingviolet - not yet, lots of warm waterproofs needed.

Frizbe - this is the never ending winter

Hope you are still powered up Wallace and wine

My theory is that because the MET office got the forecast so spectacularly wrong from Dec - March, they are just trying to cover their backsides by making half the country red now. It snowed from 18th Dec onwards (NE Scotland) and was lying 3 foot deep most of that time. It's snowed all day here and isn't lying. So, I have decreed IT WILL NOT BE AS BAD AS THEY SAY.

Wallace · 31/03/2010 07:05

Well we must have about a foot. Hard to tell because it is so windy and drifting.

midnightexpress · 31/03/2010 09:35

Oh Wallace that sund miserable - how far north are you?

We have a fair old dump on the hills but just a dusting in town, so we seem to have escaped the worst. It sounds as if it's bad as soon as you get into the countryside though - terrible coach crash in S Lanarks this morning (we're in S Lanarkshire too).

midnightexpress · 31/03/2010 09:36

sounds. What am I, Icelandic?

PricklyThistle · 31/03/2010 11:35

Well, the weather listened to me didn't it? Blew up a storm last night, woke up to over a foot of snow and it's drifting everywhere. Was supposed to be picking new wallpaper and carpets today for our house that was flooded twice last year - have we majorly pissed off some weather god or something?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/03/2010 12:36

lol Prickle - I did bite my tongue last night - didnt want to squash your optimism.

The horrendous conditions were on the news this morning. hope you are all doing ok.

ok, looking over at the next few days.
more rubbish weather. tomorrow starts off ok for many but then rain moves in from the west across southern areas. snow along the top edge. snow also moving across the north.

friday some parts start ok but once again rainmoves quickly cross the uk

saturday heavy rain, some thundery.

sunday - mixed bag.

monday - looks like another low pressure comes across bringing rain. (grrrrrrrrrrr wanted to test out our new bike racks before we go camping by taking bikes out for a good ride.)

this is so rubbish.

Threelittleducks · 31/03/2010 13:03

Grrrrrrrrrumble at the weather. Snow here. SLeety snow too. Not good. Wind too, so blowing everywhere. Getting horrible stuck-in-house-for-6-weeks-over-harsh-winter-with-toddler flashbacks.

shudder

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/03/2010 14:05

Its going to cause problems for me saturday - am running an outdoor event. I think we may get washed away. and I have a whole new crop of giant chilblains.
I'm packing my bags and leaving the country right now.

OP posts:
Frizbe · 31/03/2010 19:27

and now we know why the russians drink so much vodka.....

I was wondering if it was going to go thundery, but you've answered the question I was going to ask you OYBBK, (I've been attempting my own spot of chart reading!)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/03/2010 20:05

thats good cos I'm still learning!

OP posts:
WineBeforePearls · 31/03/2010 20:13

OYBBK, thanks for asking but luckily we didn't lose power last night (small mercies) - I rudely abandoned you as I suddenly realised I should have a hot bath while everything was working.

We're off to the west this w/end, so had better take our James Bond car-that-turns-into-a-boat/sleigh/sea-plane

Wallace · 01/04/2010 10:25

Well it seems to have stopped snowing after 2 days.

We have about 2 feet plus huuuge drifts.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/04/2010 11:04

Blimey!!!!

I was very sad to read about the bus accident caused by the horrific conditions

OP posts:
Wallace · 01/04/2010 19:19

The bus accident is very sad

train stuck in snowdrift happened very near where we live, but luckily nobody hurt.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/04/2010 22:08

I loved hearing the pragmatism of those stuck on the train and how the rescue train got stuck. Was on R4 this morning.

Guess what - Sunday and Monday aren't looking so bad now Some warmer air moving up from the south

Tomorrow could still see some thunder and hail. Slow moving heavy showers.

Sunday - some light rain in the SE and NE

Monday - most of England and Wales look to have a nice day (western sides may struggle). Not great in Scotland - some showers or rain. Met office have advisories out for parts of western Scotland for heavy rain (NI too) caused by a low pressure off the western side of Scotland.

Wallace · 02/04/2010 11:09

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/04/2010 12:15
