Weather - Looking towards Easter

My main message is don't be fooled by the milder temps and sunshine we have had recently. It looks like winter is returning next week. Certianly blow freezing temps at night for many.
and snow.
yup snow. From the midlands into northern england there looks to be a decent chance of snowand temps cold enough in parts for it perhaps to be a problem. The potential for this starts early next week I'm afraid, with heavy rain showing for many too.

Early for forecasting the Easter weekend itself - but it does not look warm and sunny.

Ya boo, British Weather sucks sometimes....I have a load of seedlings on the dineing table that need to get outside soon! (oh for a green house)

BTW Badkitten, personal question, are you a member of TORRO?

Violet, it looks like it'll be quite unpleasant I'm afraid. Give your DD a lecture from me on windchill!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/03/2010 13:50

Frizbe - I am

Shrinkingviolet, just looking for you.

ok, still early for details obviously but at the moment I would keep a really close eye on things. A generally wet week up there and no improvement towards the end of the week according to met office. Wet with potentially sleet or snow thursday night.

Interestingly gfs seems to have friday as ok, with the bulk of the wet weather to the south. Not quite sure why, it seems to be modelling the lows in a similar way to ukmo. keep a close eye on forecasts and remind me tomorrow to have another look.

thanks OYBBK (I think )

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/03/2010 08:52

todays warnings

risks concentrated in Scotland and northern Egland. Heavy snow in parts, heavy rain where it isn't heavy snow.

need to look into it more, but at first glance, I think there may be some thundery squalls forming this afternoon/evening across parts of England. Will get back to you on that.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/03/2010 08:58

nothing flagged up on weather forums and I'm not great at assessing storm potentials, but I personally think there is decent potential for squall fronts to form.

Looking at the Easter weekend - which is coming more into view now.
Looks generally unsettled - wet, windy, snow in parts. Not a weekend for hill walking. Some sunshine though for some. A teeny glimmer of hope for some of Monday in the south.

It's miserable here in Suffolk, Ds is most probably wet and freezing up on the fells somewhere in the Lakes - WHERE IS THE SUN? (sorry for shouting). I think I'll emigrate too OYBK.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/03/2010 10:30

your poor ds

OP posts:
snorkie · 30/03/2010 10:46

I'm told it's character building OYBK. I'm just hoping he doesn't come home with pneumonia.

bramblebooks · 30/03/2010 10:58

Yuk here, just as I go to get my hair done! Ah well, it'll encourage me to stay in and work on my academic stuff before I travel to Warwickshire at the weekend.

Hoping to go to North East on Mon, then planning Edinburgh later in the week - fingers crossed. Can cancel Scottish leg if weather forecast is foul.

thelittlebluepills · 30/03/2010 11:30

and then there's the rail strike...... so no trips to London museums etc....

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/03/2010 11:47

I know. utterly pitiful.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/03/2010 12:36

Looks startlingly bad for parts of Scotland tonight
Be prepared for heavy snow overnight with travel and power disruption likely.

tomorrow will feel colder across all of UK and snow down to lower levels.

liath · 30/03/2010 12:46

I'd give Edinburgh a miss if it stays like this, bramblebrooks. It's 2 degrees with horrizontal sleet. My cold frame and compost bin have just taken off across my ruined garden ! I'm even going to take pity on the kids and drive them to nursery.

PavlovtheCat · 30/03/2010 13:12

bad weather cannot ruin slow roasted lamb and ouzo

bramblebooks · 30/03/2010 15:12

Oh dear, Liath. We also have horizontal sleet here in Chester. I am trying to transcribe a videoed assessment I did and can't hear the cd due to the sound of the weather - hence a dip into mn!

Helenastar · 30/03/2010 15:41

It is really, really raining here in London at the moment, and none to warm either.
I am praying that we will have good Easter weather as DD and I are off to Buckinghamshire to see grandad, and he has a big garden.
I also have to get out and about with DD most days as the stress of being inside with a 3 year old, can be quite frankly unbearable

Helenastar · 30/03/2010 15:43

Oh god, just remembered no tube to get to Marylebone Station over Easter and then no direct train to Aylesbury!!!!!!!!!
and all this stress of crap transport and getting from A to B will be conducted in driving rain, Happy Easter

amidaiwish · 30/03/2010 15:47

i can feel a day in westfield coming on this easter.... could be expensive!

stealthsquiggle · 30/03/2010 15:51

I was feeling all smug because I bought plastic eggs from Baker Ross to fill with chocolate eggs and (very realistic) egg bouncy 'balls' for a weather-proof garden egg hunt (and also so that I the Easter Bunny could hide them the night before so that I don't he doesn't have to get up early).

..except that I just went to fill them and they have holes in .
