1st September marks the start of meteorological Autumn and it looks like the new season/month is going to start with a continuation of the weather we’ve had the last few weeks ~ unsettled. But here are the Autumnal thoughts of….

And then there’s a very strong El Nino to add into the mix, which might bring a stormy/windy Autumn ~ Netweather's thoughts from a few weeks ago...

I’m all for a wetter than average autumn as long as there are plenty of dry days too. Love an autumn walk even if it’s windy but not so keen on wet autumn walks.

And there's a new list of Storm Names ~ let's hope none/very few of them have to be used!

So do I. But I’m also looking forward to storm Olaf.

It really is the most beautiful day here - low 20s. Gorgeous dog walk - the grass is looking a bit greener and I don’t know if I’m imagining it but nature seems happier - the birds seem to be louder!

Happy with some rainy days as long as we have sun too. I hate wind so not happy with all the potential storms forecast.

We've got a lovely day here as well. Warm with a nice breeze ~ the grass and garden seem to have recovered well ~ it's almost like the summer heatwaves didn't happen! The rest of the week looks ok but there could be showers about at times.

Netweather has outlined a few thoughts on what Autumn might bring here...

We've had a proper Autumn day here today ~ damp, drizzly and dull. Sunset time is supposed to be 7.50pm tonight but think it's going to be getting dark before then....

It looks like rain overnight for most places but then summer returns this weekend, with temperatures in the midlands/south hitting the mid 20sC. Further north, still a chance of showers but temperatures still ok ~ in the 15-20C range.

Thanks @GloriaSmud I’m pleased we’ve had some rain but haven’t enjoyed this first taste of proper autumn weather. Looking forward to a bit of warmth and sun at the weekend.

@Delatron When it comes to the weather breaking down after the heatwaves, so far I think it's been the best we could hope for. There's been some flash flooding but we've had the sort of rain so far that can soak in and soften the ground. And it's mixed in with some sunny days as well.

And unsurprisingly after the heatwaves we've had, provisional figures from the metoffice show that we've had the hottest summer on record...

Especially as we went to the beach in 35mph winds and not only did we get soaked to the skin by the sideways rain, we also got sandblasted 🙄

DH didn't want to go across the fields as the dogs would get too muddy. He is now banned from choosing walking routes for the foreseeable. At one point I could physically not move forward as the wind was so strong. I'm missing the calm sunny days already even though I usually love autumn!

The gardens do all look greener and it was lovely on Tuesday!

So hopefully it will carry on with the mixture of some rain but also some lovely sunny and calm (!) autumn days.

It’s too early to be plunged in to endless miserable weather I feel. September can be glorious. Hopefully the storms will be later in the autumn (or not so all!).

Garden (and birds) are slowly recovering with the rain but the moss(?) Is becoming rampant in between the bricks on the drive. I really really hate block paving 😠

It's been a lovely day today ~ I was 'assessing' the state of the grass in the back garden this morning and it might need cutting ~ I can't remember the last time I had to do that!

Overnight and into tomorrow, it's looking wet/blustery/might be the odd rumble of thunder for northern England and Wales southwards before drying up for the day. Scotland looks showery overnight and that continues into tomorrow, especially for the western side of the country.

Into next week, it looks like the unsettled theme continues ~ no storms showing up and long may it stay like that!

Looking at the Pacific Ocean some big storms forming which apparently can affect our jet stream.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with the jet stream when it comes to storms and how many of them come charging over our side of the world, combined with the strong El Nino as well. We need rain but don't need storms/flooding...

A mixture of weather this week ~ warm at times for the midlands/SW/south and SE over the next few days and there could be a good amount of rain for the SW and south coast tonight/into tomorrow. Rest of the country looking cooler with showers at times.

It's cloudy, it's warm, it's not raining but grass is green, weeds are popping up to say hi, and the birds are tweeting and hopping about.

Life is good

I cut the grass for the first time in months yesterday (although there are some brown patches), it seems to have recovered well.
Yes, the weather seems more 'normal' now <happy sigh 🙂>

It's still too hot at night for me. I've all the windows open and a fan running. 🫠🥵🥵🤒

It can still be warm at night at this time of year but there might be a few nights coming up (although mainly this applies to Wales and Scotland), where the GFS thinks the temperature could drop to single figures, between 5-10C is being forecast...
