Summer 2026 (1st June ~ start of meteorological Summer)

GloriaSmud · 02/06/2026 06:27

Yesterday (1st June) marked the start of meteorological summer (and the high temperatures last week were hot enough for some and enough to last the year!)

At the moment, the GFS thinks the first 10 days of June are looking unsettled and changeable, then slightly drier/warmer towards the end of next week but the unsettled theme still continues until the middle of the month.

Thoughts from Netweather (from a few days ago) and TheWeatherOutlook on what summer might have in store for us.

An early look ahead at what the UK summer may have in store

Ahead of the full summer forecast, an early look at what summer could have in store. One factor is a developing strong El Nino, which may have some influence.

I've noticed when the temperature even rises slightly this year it is becoming very muggy instead of drying the air, my dehumidifiers are working overtime but I'm tumble drying everything so it's not that. It's either cold and windy, cold and wet, lukewarm and humid, or fries your eyeballs and soul. Lukewarm and dry would be perfectly acceptable right now 😄

Well I take it back. Since this morning the temperature has just kept rising. We had lunch at a restaurant across the road from the beach. When we came out thought that's warmer. Went into town to buy a hob from Currys. When we came out it was sweltering. Came home. Started closing curtains and opening windows.

Temperature at 6pm outside 18c

Delatron · 12/06/2026 17:58

I also think it is getting warmer and more humid. The sun is out here. I’m hopeful they’ve under estimated the forecast!

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 12/06/2026 18:05

Sun out 20 degrees in SE London. Cloudy this morning.

Yes humid. Lovely, not. Saps my energy.

As a lover of warm who hates hot. Low 20s is perfect. Will feel warmer in the sun. Was lovely at 4 when I finished work.

RafaistheKingofClay · 12/06/2026 20:23

Come on Bosnia!

RafaistheKingofClay · 12/06/2026 20:29

Erm wrong thread 😂

GloriaSmud · 12/06/2026 20:40

I don't think the World Cup has ever made it on to a weather thread before! Grin
After a drizzly start, it's got gradually warmer here too but quite windy. Looking forward to a bit more ☀over the next few days.

I'm just about to get up. We're going to Bramham horse trials, it sounds very windy!

Delatron · 13/06/2026 10:46

Thanks for the update @GloriaSmud
I’m heading to France on a city break next weekend so slightly concerned about the ‘heat dome’ building over Europe. Mind you it was 40 degrees there this time last year so as long as it stays mid 30s.

Glad it’s warming up here! Need this wind to drop.

GloriaSmud · 13/06/2026 11:14

@Delatron ~ the GFS forecasts maximum temperatures heading towards 40C for France next weekend but hopefully it's rather overdoing it. Meteo france though is giving a range of low 20s- low 30s so let's hope that's the more accurate one!

The wind is a bit of a problem at the moment ~ it's really taking the edge off the temperatures, especially as it's cloudy as well....

Ah we have some some sun here in Bucks @GloriaSmud - will try and send it your way.

Fingers crossed I don’t have 40 again in France next week. Not pleasant in a city!

Hello everyone

It's been very nice here

I'm also feeling the pollen, which is strange because grass pollen doesn't normally affect me, I'm normally done with hayfever by the middle of this month

I think they're doing that thing where they're undercooking temperatures

Yesterday they said it would be 22, I went out completely wrongly dressed because it was really really warm. I would've actually been fine in a T-shirt, but instead I was wearing a long sleeve top and a hoody.

Speaking of which wanted to get @GloriaSmud opinion on next weekend

I think AccuWeather have been best at forecasting accurate temperatures and they're going for 30 on Friday. Once again, planning is key for me

The flat gets so hot I was wondering if I actually need to sort out a coworking space - which I have got time to do this week, it's a couple of train stops away from me so not ideal but there's nothing local

Anyway, if some of the weather forecast are correct it wouldn't be necessary to pay for that this week. But if AccuWeather is correct then Wednesday Thursday Friday, I I would like to have access to that.

I know I'm just repeating myself, but it really amazes me how inaccurate weather forecasts are now. I suppose it's another example of technology getting worse instead of better. They used to be excellent, that's probably about 10 years ago now.

EmeraldRoulette · 14/06/2026 11:58

PS, I had no idea there was a heat dome building over Europe

But when it's just nice, I don't tend to obsess about weather, I just pootle about saying "ooh this is nice". Yesterday was just like an English summer. It was only when I got in on Friday and the flat was absolutely stiflingly boiling. I was quite confused because. Friday was nice, but I didn't think it was "bake the flat"weather!

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 14/06/2026 12:35

19 degrees and cloudy on weather app SE London but travelling into South Kensington. It seems warmer and sunny with maybe small clouds.

I felt the pollen yesterday despite taking a strong hayfever tablet.

trying29 · 14/06/2026 13:02

its definitely warmer than 19 in south London. Realy warm out and hardly a cloud in the sky compared to the cloudy day forecast. hay fever very bad for my kids too - it seems to be much longer this year

I felt the pollen yesterday despite taking a strong hayfever tablet.

I'm on two hayfever tablets. To be fair the met office put out red and amber alerts which I posted the other day. My eyes are so scratchy.

GloriaSmud · 14/06/2026 14:08

@EmeraldRoulette ~ it certainly looks like it's getting warmer this week. Wednesday - mid 20s, Thursday - 25-28C and Friday - 28/29C. For next weekend - 28/29C and Sunday- back to mid 20s.

As usually happens when we get this type of heat, there's an increasing chance of thundery showers/storms, especially towards the end of the week for the SE.

It’s been lovely this weekend in S Wales, which I’m grateful for as most of the week was cloudy, windy and chilly. I’m sitting in the garden now and the sun is still lovely and warm.
Going to Mottisfont Abbey next week to see the roses so I hope the sun lasts a bit longer!

EmeraldRoulette · 14/06/2026 19:00

@GloriaSmud thank you

In general, I think I better go for the workspace - if they have room!
