Summer 2026 (1st June ~ start of meteorological Summer)

Yesterday (1st June) marked the start of meteorological summer (and the high temperatures last week were hot enough for some and enough to last the year!)

At the moment, the GFS thinks the first 10 days of June are looking unsettled and changeable, then slightly drier/warmer towards the end of next week but the unsettled theme still continues until the middle of the month.

Thoughts from Netweather (from a few days ago) and TheWeatherOutlook on what summer might have in store for us.

Is he OK? Rain rescue or other causes. DS is at the Leeds site I'm expecting Mud Man to come home

Reading does look rather wet today and Leeds, wet later this afternoon/evening so yes gingercat02, expect a Soggy Son to come home!

We also have another thunderstorm warning issued by the metoffice.

Ah thanks @gingercat02 it was purely a no sleep (noise) and rain rescue. We don’t live too far away but I am feeling a bit like a shuttle bus service back and forth! He fancied a shower and a sleep!

Another day, another thunderstorm warning!...⛈

We have had lots of thunderstorm warnings. Not so many actual thunderstorms 😂

I took grandchildren out this morning locally, crazy golf, paddling pool and park. Thinking when it pours down we'll just jump back in the car. It still hasn't rained. We could have gone further afield except the tourists have a habit of having accidents and blocking the roads.

Woohoo’ actual proper chucking it down rain. We could do with that.

We have big rumblings going on now ⛈️⚡️💧

The rain forecast by the metoffice that was due this afternoon, looks like it's about to arrive ~ there are some really dark clouds about so might get some lightning/rumbles of thunder...

Gosh that’s crazy! We have had soo much rain here. Reading festival was a massive wash out.

Our 'afternoon rain' (as forecasted by the metoffice) eventually arrived around midnight but after all the rain over the last week or two, our grass is finally a decent shade of green and my water butts are about full.

But that's the 'other side of the coin' about the weather breaking and it turning unsettled, plus being a Bank Holiday as well ~ there'll be many events that have been affected by the weather, as the festivals at Reading and Leeds have been.

It does tend to turn at this time
of year to be fair. It’s DH’s birthday and it’s rarely been nice weather! In the summer of 76 it was 27th August when it finally rained. Similar to this year.

Anyway the gardens and nature are happier. Once we’ve had enough rain it would be lovely to have a good
Sept. Feel we’ve gone from heatwave to autumn but I guess that’s because we all became acclimatised to the heat..

Well thank goodness for the rain. The grass is sprouting green tufts

I'm back from the Bath area - it was so much greener and lush looking there. Back to the dead, brown crispiness of the south east.

DH topped the lawn today with the mower. Some bits have sprouted so he's set the mower on high.
