Summer 2026 (1st June ~ start of meteorological Summer)

Yesterday (1st June) marked the start of meteorological summer (and the high temperatures last week were hot enough for some and enough to last the year!)

At the moment, the GFS thinks the first 10 days of June are looking unsettled and changeable, then slightly drier/warmer towards the end of next week but the unsettled theme still continues until the middle of the month.

Thoughts from Netweather (from a few days ago) and TheWeatherOutlook on what summer might have in store for us.

Italy has suffered too especially Sicily.

😆For this week, the SW might get some rain early on but looking at the GFS, the area will probably do better out of the showery stuff that comes towards the end of the week. But yes, it's looking like high pressure builds again next weekend and while the temperatures are looking about average, it means we're back to no rain in the forecast again...

It was a chilly 12C this morning when I got up and up to 17C now so warmed up a bit. It's all a lot more pleasant than the temperatures we were experiencing last week!

Looks cool and grey here. There were spots of rain but came to naught!

What happened last time was that the ‘big wall of rain’ that was supposed to hit the SW was affected by the heat and ended up getting split up into scattered showers. So a few places got a bit of rain. The rest of us just got the rain clouds but no actual rain other than the tiniest amount of drizzle that barely made the ground wet. I think the 30% chance for tues/weds might do something similar.

I’m holding out more hope for the 40% on Thursday but realistically it’s still more likely to not rain that rain though. Will have to get my rain dancing shoes on. And pray to all the gods of rain.

Oh hang on. Just checked the app. There is a raindrop on Thursday and 70% chance of rain at lunchtime.

One good downpour will do. 3 fires here in a week is making me nervous.

It's looking likely that everyone will see some rain this week (thank goodness!) and the metoffice long range forecast is saying (and the GFS is showing something similar) that there might settled weather but there's also now more of a chance of low pressure systems bringing wind and rain (although we could do without the strong winds/storms.)

A rather changeable period is likely, with many parts of the UK seeing showers or perhaps some longer spells of rain. However, there will be some drier interludes as high pressure moves across the UK at times. There is also a chance that deeper Atlantic lows could lead to periods of widespread rain and strong winds at times, while some outbreaks of thunderstorms are also possible. Temperatures are more likely to be above normal than below overall, though the possibility of widespread or exceptional heat is lower than in recent weeks.

And in a further sign we so much need the rain ~ I was out for a walk this afternoon and there's a house near us that has two holly bushes in the front garden that are always loaded with berries. This year's no exception except the berries are all shrivelled up through lack of water. The birds are going to need them during the coming autumn/winter so lots of regular rain over the next few weeks would be nice....

I promise I’m never complaining about rain again. Even if it rains for 50 days straight again and we get a deluge of 7cm in 8-12 hrs and everything floods again.

There does look like there's some showery stuff on the radar for a few places, including the SW (I think that's where you are, Rafa?)

(And that's something else not to be complained about again ~ rain that arrives that's not been forecasted!)

Yes. Devon. Am on the bus and there does seem to have been some extremely localised showers that loo like they may have been quite heavy.

I haven’t brought a coat out with me so that should encourage it 😂

North Wales 17c drizzle last night which hasn't really stopped. Perfect to dampen down the peat which is still hot on our mountain. It's not enough to fill any water butts and reservoirs.

We don't want heavy rain yet, we've had some awful flooding in the last thirty years from runoff. Friends have lost homes, farmers livestock. Roads and train tracks undermined and unusable. The odd mud slide from the hills above and drains blocked with sand etc causing dreadful flooding at high tide.

Please God turn the tap on slowly and steadily

justasking111 ~ it looks like slow and steady rainfall for Wales (and that goes for most places as well) but it also looks like the sort of rain that won't just sit over one place for hours/days without moving on so hopefully it'll all be able to soak in and there won't be flooding.

I'm praying 🙏 that with the winds being Westerly that it drifts slowly eastward for many. Countryfile said Wednesday before it gets heavier.

DH and grandson went sloe picking today. They're very small but ripe. Gawd knows how the sloe gin will turn out.

Today's thoughts from Netweather... Scotland and N. England could be in for some showery/windy weather to start the week but at least it looks like there'll be lighter showers mixed in so hopefully gives a chance for 'soaking in' to happen.

YY to slow steady rain to make everything damp first.

Clouds have gone and it is now hot here again. Having revised forecast down from 27 to 25 I think they may have got it right the first time. It’s definitely not feeling like a 25 degree day.

local weather stations on weather underground all have the temp at 28/29. They are usually a bit higher than the official temp turn out to be but not 4 degrees higher.

It was quite nice early afternoon, then a few drips and then it got hot. My thermometer outside is saying 30 degrees, it may be in direct sun (it is attached to a bush which helps screen it a bit). Surrey/Berks border.

I went for lunch with a friend and it went from ‘this is quite nice walking in the sun’ to ‘bloody hell it’s hot out here’ in the space of 2 hours.

29.6 is what ours had as a maximum today. It won’t have actually been that high, more like 28. But it definitely feels more like the days where the max temp has been high 20s not mid 20s ( which now feels like a cooler day this summer 😂)

We have lovely soft rain, and its quite cold. Autumn appears to have arrived in the NE this evening
