The start of meteorological Summer 2025 (1st June)

This weekend sees the start of meteorological summer.
Netweather haven't got their summer forecast yet but have some thoughts here on what sort of summer we might expect.

TheWeatherOutlook published their summer forecast a few weeks ago.

(I think that although we've had a dry spring, it'll be a 'mixed' summer of dry/warm (maybe hot days), mixed in with wet days. So we'll see......)

Unsettled start to June likely, but how may the rest of summer play out?

Ahead of the Netweather Summer 2025 forecast, we look at some the clues that point to how the summer may turn out after a likely unsettled start to June.

Ah, I see what you mean, EmeraldRoulette!

Temperatures look like they'll carry on being all over the place for next week as well and after a quiet weekend, we have a rather autumnal-type storm ~ Storm Floris arriving on Monday.

So hot weather looks like it's making a return over the weekend, with temperatures edging towards 30C in the south as we go through next week. Scotland looks like the place to be if you want unsettled conditions and don't like the heat.

Wales next week mostly sunny. One day forecast 22c. Pretty settled.

Just reading about the fires in Europe. Awful for all.

EmeraldRoulette · 11/08/2025 10:25

@GloriaSmud thanks for this

Just yesterday, my forecast was showing it cooling down after Thursday, but now it's all consistently 30+ for as far as the forecast goes.

I think that's probably the more up-to-date version, isn't it? Certainly for those of us in Essex.

Delatron · 11/08/2025 10:52

Thanks @GloriaSmud ! Gosh another spell of hot weather.! If I had air con and a pool (and didn’t have to work). It would be lovely. But it does get a bit exhausting trying to sleep and fit in early dog walks.

It will be interesting to see the stats on this summer. It’s been warm and sunny (with some cooler weeks) since about Easter. So unusual.

Agree, the fires in Europe are just devastating.

We’ve just got back from Italy and I was grateful that we weren’t there in a heatwave. Southern Europe is becoming a risky summer destination due to the potential for 40 degree heat and you just can’t do anybody in that!

justasking111 · 11/08/2025 10:56

I'd hate to be on holiday in Europe this month. Was the same last year.

It's mad busy at our RAF BASE, so many training today. They've a good weather window for flying

gingercat02 · 11/08/2025 10:59

Obviously Europe wide, we are in Croatia. Today is by far the hottest day in the 8 days we have been here, it's 28-30 so far, today is 39 according to the local weather app.

gingercat02 · 11/08/2025 11:01

Gorse fire on Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh yesterday and fires in Dorset (I think) over the weekend

GloriaSmud · 11/08/2025 20:04

@Delatron @EmeraldRoulette ~ Smile
Yes, for the midlands and the south, it looks like temperatures are going to be near the 30C mark for most of the week. The north and Scotland are warm as well, with temperatures between 20-27C
There's a chance of thunderstorms during the week which I suppose is better than nothing when it comes to rain.

We've had rain pretty much all day here apart from a hot, dry spell of a couple of hours at teatime. This is our rain radar over us right now. At least I haven't had to water the pots tonight. Forecast 25 for a couple of days, then back down to 19/20/21.

Hope everyone further south manages with the heat.

Doing that thing of trying to plan which day I have to get on train and tube... and the forecast opinions are wildly different!

was also trying to figure out which day next week, but that's hopeless. Got one forecast telling me 28 for Tuesday. And another one telling me 22. Tuesday is my preferred day. Hmmm.

Sorry, I think people who use public transport and walk a lot are probably be the ultimate weather bores. I remember when the forecast was so accurate day to day, it's crazy to me that we've gone backwards in this regard.

and it rained a bit last night, which confused everybody. Though we were relieved.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 12/08/2025 15:23

We had some rain last night and it sounded good but according to the weather station was only 0.4mm 😭

justasking111 · 12/08/2025 18:37

I'm so hot and the dogs eaten the plug off the fan 🤬🤬

Same here. The pots are so dry again. It's only 25 degrees here in Whitley Bay, but I've had a busy day and getting in and out of a hot car has been exhausting. The conservatory is like an oven (waiting on a quote for a new 'proper' roof)

InMySpareTime · 12/08/2025 21:00

I spent the afternoon in a building converted from a swimming pool, with a glass roof and minimal ventilation. I’m a sweaty mess RN.

TheSalmonMousse · 12/08/2025 23:01

Oh no just! The menaces.

It was baking today. The big garden I work in is absolutely parched and it's been all I can do to keep it alive this year. Spent months hauling watering cans and hoses about - thankfully the property has its own water supply. We've done all we can with mulches to keep some moisture in the soil but some plants are looking decidedly unhappy and there's already a lot of leaf drop. I hate this weather, it's horrible to work in and not good for the plants.

EmeraldRoulette · 13/08/2025 20:13

I think there's fewer of us on here who are in the south east. It's pretty grim here and there is no air.

And it's basically more of the same to come for Thursday and Friday. Slight improvement over the weekend but they are currently understating the temperatures.

I think this is the first year of my life that I've actually looked forward to autumn.

justasking111 · 13/08/2025 22:15

23c here today. A breeze got up this evening. The winds going nor Westerly tomorrow so should be cooler for us.

Husband put a new plug on my fan. Hallelujah 🤣

GloriaSmud · 14/08/2025 07:53

Yay, justasking111 Grin
Looks like slightly lower temperatures today although it might still hit 30C in the London area.

If you enjoy a bit of stargazing (and want a chance to enjoy some cooler nighttime temperatures!), the Perseid meteor shower peaked a few nights ago but there's still a good chance of seeing quite a lot of meteors. Maybe also a chance to take advantage of the clear skies we've got at the moment?
