The start of meteorological Summer 2025 (1st June)

This weekend sees the start of meteorological summer.
Netweather haven't got their summer forecast yet but have some thoughts here on what sort of summer we might expect.

TheWeatherOutlook published their summer forecast a few weeks ago.

(I think that although we've had a dry spring, it'll be a 'mixed' summer of dry/warm (maybe hot days), mixed in with wet days. So we'll see......)

Unsettled start to June likely, but how may the rest of summer play out?

Ahead of the Netweather Summer 2025 forecast, we look at some the clues that point to how the summer may turn out after a likely unsettled start to June.

Busy day today so were there thunderstorms, biblical rains?

GloriaSmud · 20/07/2025 07:55

@EmeraldRoulette ~ at the moment (bearing in mind, it's a week away), I'm afraid it's still looking hot! Temperatures in the mid-high 20s.

justasking111 ~ we had nothing in the way of storms but we had a lot of rain yesterday until 2.30pm-3pm ish, then it stopped and was a lovely evening. Having more rain at the moment ~ the grass is beginning to go green again and at this rate, I might have to get the lawmower out this week ~ grass hasn't been cut for about a month!

Literally did not stop raining yesterday from lunchtime until after I went to bed. No thunder but the cat was weird all day so I suspect there was something in the air!

blobby10 · 20/07/2025 12:37

I'm in South Leics and we've had no storms at all and no sighting on netweather lightning map of any storms anywhere! Its so disappointing as I love a good storm plus its so close and humid today - just need something to clear the air and if we aren't going to get it please stop raining so I can get the washing dried Grin

Well we were lucky yesterday with our BBQ. Heavy rain all morning then it brightened up for the afternoon. We did have to bring the cushions in twice for some short lived showers but it was fine really. Nice to be able to be outside.

BurntBroccoli · 20/07/2025 14:49

Biblical storms here in Yorkshire! Like we’re having 3 months rain in 30 minutes! 😳

SoMentallyDrained · 20/07/2025 16:44

We have thunder and lightning NW!

InMySpareTime · 20/07/2025 16:52

I looked at the surface pressure video on the Met Office app, and from that it looks like the Azores High is starting to move in over the UK again next weekend. Does that mean we’re in for yet another heatwave or is it still too early to tell?

EmeraldRoulette · 20/07/2025 17:44

So the general outlook is too hot

I don't really want to try and run aircon out the bedroom window because it is so loud. I don't think there's any such thing as quiet portable aircon.

GloriaSmud · 20/07/2025 19:37

Proper thunderstorm going on here (Leicester)

It's going to be a bit of a warm-ish week for the south with 'comfortable' temperatures (23-25C) and more average ones (18-23C) everywhere else but from next weekend, temperatures for the south become more mid-upper 20sC and by the end of next week (although this is looking too far ahead to be certain), it looks like the heat spreads into the midlands, the SW and Wales and temperatures head towards 31-32C. It looks like the north and Scotland stay around the 17-20C mark.

The sky looks very dark here in Cheshire and the rumbling is starting…

EmeraldRoulette · 20/07/2025 22:18

@GloriaSmud thanks, that's really helpful

it didn't rain much but the mugginess has cleared, thank goodness

Latest weather warnings from the metoffice and Netweather's Thunderstorm Watch.

It's quite nice here at the moment. It was an unexpected surprise to get a thunderstorm yesterday. Today our warning starts from 11am so we'll see if we get another one!

Glorious earlier, now overcast. It's all in the lap of the gods today

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 21/07/2025 14:42

Nipped out the shop, came home, looked at the sky and brought washing in. Five minutes later we had heavy rain.

It was very pleasing!

socks1107 · 21/07/2025 21:18

I got off the train, the rain was awful it took me double the time to walk home, I ended up taking my shoes off and doing the last 200 yards in bare feet as I was slipping all over in my shoes. Stripped off in the hallway as despite a rain Mac and brolly even my underwear was wet

blobby10 · 22/07/2025 10:05

@GloriaSmud I'm 15 miles south of you and only got 11 (yes I'm sad and counted them!!) rumbles of thunder on Sunday. Last night around 4.30/5pm everyone to the East and West of me got thunder, lightning and rain but I was dry for my dog walk and for the evening.Felt very cheated!!

GloriaSmud · 22/07/2025 15:03

@blobby10 ~ it isn't sad at all ~ more interesting to hear how localised weather can be Grin
Sunday was real torrential stuff for us but last night, I was going into Leicester around 4.15pm and we had a few rumbles, flashes of lightning and a bit of rain but that was about it. There's a chance of thundery showers today but it's looking a bit 'hit and miss.'

Quite contradictory between forecasts for next week. Difference between 17 and 26.

GloriaSmud · 01/08/2025 11:38

EmeraldRoulette ~ there is a difference between the temperatures for the north and south of the country next week and while it's still looking warm at times for the midlands/south/SE of the country, the north and Scotland look almost chilly, with temperatures struggling up to 15-19C.

There's also Storm Floris approaching for Monday and the metoffice have issued some weather warnings for that.

A Weekend of two halves as Storm Floris approaches

A settled start to the weekend will quickly give way to a potent Atlantic system. Expect a transition from summer warmth to autumnal gales as an unseasonably deep low-pressure system targets the UK on Monday.

Been cool this week 15-17c. Blowy, plenty of showers. We've storm Floris in the wings so normal Welsh summer

EmeraldRoulette · 01/08/2025 17:15

@GloriaSmud I think I posted that on Monday so it's the week just gone that I meant

So at one point on Monday, it was saying that yesterday would be 27. It wasn't. I'm relieved to be honest. Much more normal temperatures now! I can actually get stuff done in the flat.

Delatron · 01/08/2025 19:05

Yeah - the forecasts are so inaccurate at the moment. At one point it was looking hot again next week? But less so now.
