The start of meteorological Summer 2025 (1st June)

This weekend sees the start of meteorological summer.
Netweather haven't got their summer forecast yet but have some thoughts here on what sort of summer we might expect.

TheWeatherOutlook published their summer forecast a few weeks ago.

(I think that although we've had a dry spring, it'll be a 'mixed' summer of dry/warm (maybe hot days), mixed in with wet days. So we'll see......)

Unsettled start to June likely, but how may the rest of summer play out?

Ahead of the Netweather Summer 2025 forecast, we look at some the clues that point to how the summer may turn out after a likely unsettled start to June.

Oh wow Riley's is fab - shack and shop. I did a fish cookery course last year in the shop. Amazing

It was an incredible experience to be part of that, but ultimately bloody knackering! Mouth of Tyne festival is loud tonight!

EmeraldRoulette · 11/07/2025 21:10

@RainbowZebraWarrior thank you for understanding. I'm quite a low energy person so going away is a mission. Well, maybe not low energy in terms of work and stuff. But I don't have enough going spare!

So I went to the beach. It was really nice. The water wasn't cold which I gather is quite unusual around here.

Popped into a hotel for a drink (which funnily enough I had wanted to stay in but they didn't have any rooms tonight). That would've been a better place to stay I think -much smaller and very chatty staff, all women. Which being on my own, I like. Two blokes staying there came into the bar and started chatting to me as well, in a nice way. They might have been a couple, I'm not sure.

Came back to my hotel, I had dinner, no other singletons around which always makes me feel a bit weird. Then had a little walk after dinner but came home pretty quickly after two less nice blokes tried chatting to me!

Sorry just realised I'm waffling on about being on holiday alone on a board about weather! As you were 😂

back into the Essex heat tomorrow.

socks1107 · 11/07/2025 21:27

I’m off to Berlin on Monday where it looks set to rain every day. Not sure whether I’m happy or annoyed. Be nice to not be so hot but I wasn’t expecting rain!!!

GloriaSmud · 13/07/2025 08:17

EmeraldRoulette ~ it sounds like you had some nice days away (and I'm Envy that the sea sounds like it was warmer than when I was away 10 days ago!)

Cooling off a bit this week (the south/SE looks like it holds on to the heat though, so temperatures might still be in the region of 27/28C) but it looks like a gradual cooling down, with some warm/hot days thrown in occasionally. And at last, it looks like some actual rain might be on the way....
Netweather's thoughts for the coming week.

A hot Saturday, but heat easing as we head into next week, with some rain too

Temperatures again reaching 30C or more quite widely today, however, the heat will ease as we head into next week, with cooler and fresher weather from Tuesday, along with showers or longer spells of rain next week.

@EmeraldRoulette I hope you had a lovely holiday and it wasn’t too scorching. I was in London yesterday and was dreading it - but thank goodness for the air con on the Elizabeth line. Life changing. And there was a bit of a breeze which took the edge off the heat. Very pleasant in the evening. I think a bit cooler last night.

@socks1107 I love Berlin! One of my favourite cities. Hope you don’t get wall to wall rain but it would have been oppressive in a heatwave too. Enjoy!

Thanks for the update @GloriaSmud they don’t seem to be able to figure out next week at all! I need to plan which days I need to walk the dog before work (he can’t go out over 23 degrees) I can’t even figure it out for tomorrow. Phone says windy and 24 max. BBC says 26 and met office says 28 degrees. All wildly different! They all agree on a cool and wet Tuesday though. (SE). So hopefully we get the much needed rain then.

If it settles back to around 24/25 with the odd bit of rain then I’ll be happy!

EmeraldRoulette · 13/07/2025 20:16

Conflicting forecast here but looks like a drop on Tuesday and then back up to 30 by Friday. I am over it!

justasking111 · 13/07/2025 22:50

Absolute drenching on Tuesday. Then showery spells every day. No more heatwave yet though

gingercat02 · 14/07/2025 09:44

The rain and thunder has started. Thankfully we got all the gardening done over the last 2 weekends so a good drench will do everything the world of good.

GloriaSmud · 14/07/2025 10:11

As gingercat02 has found, there might be a few thundery downpours today.
We've got proper heavy rain forecast from 11am-ish tomorrow and it's looking showery for the weekend and into next week as well. Should help the water situation a little.

If anybody would like a rain forecast for the E.Midlands then I can guarantee lots of rain on Tuesday 22nd. I'm moving house ⛈⚡

justasking111 · 14/07/2025 22:23

No rain here yet but goodness it was windy today real blustery gusts. Blew one of those swing open windows shut and it's a really stiff one which is a bugger to open and shut.

beenrumbled · 15/07/2025 12:58

I might have wished for rain a little to much. DC graduation today and it's raining like it will never stop! Indoor photos it is then.

justasking111 · 15/07/2025 13:42

Drizzling through the night then proper rain until noon. Sun out now.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 15/07/2025 14:40

We had a crazy downpour upon returning home after the school run last night. It looks like it could be the same today. I am deeply grateful not to have to be doing the watering for a few days (I will never have as many pots again!) but my conservatory roof can now no longer be ignored. I have someone coming to quote for a replacement next week..

EmeraldRoulette · 15/07/2025 15:07

No rain in my bit of Essex

nicer outside but still hot inside

thinking long walk after work.

GloriaSmud · 17/07/2025 16:46

He's probably going to have a very wet journey, justasking111, ~ lots of surface water about and spray.
It's my Mum's birthday and we were going to have a BBQ or brunch. Looking at the forecast, it's very much looking like an indoor brunch!

OP posts:
Delatron · 17/07/2025 16:57

Thanks @GloriaSmud I’m trying to make sense of all the different forecasts. I’m in Bucks. We definitely need the rain but I’m having a BBQ Sat afternoon 😩. Can’t work out if we will need to be indoors or will the showers have cleared through by late afternoon?

GloriaSmud · 17/07/2025 17:34

@Delatron ~ I'd say the later it gets in the afternoon (or towards the evening), the better. It looks like the showers/rain/risk of thunderstorms stick around until quite late in the day.

OP posts:
Delatron · 17/07/2025 19:54

Thanks so much @GloriaSmud - let’s hope the thunderstorms are scattered and few and far between. Fingers crossed it clears up in the evening!

RainbowZebraWarrior · 18/07/2025 11:59

Crikey @justasking111 that looks, erm, colourful. Hope he gets back safe

I'm sitting outside school waiting for DD to finish (half day - schools out for summer!) and it's dark and oppressive. I'm hoping it waits till we get home before the heavens open. We have planned to stay home tomorrow and have a quiet first day of the school hols.

GloriaSmud · 18/07/2025 13:02

More weather warnings issued by the metoffice, including an Amber thunderstorm one for London/the south/SE tomorrow.

And Netweather's thunderstorm watch.

TheSalmonMousse · 18/07/2025 20:17

I predict the roads in our town will be partially flooded by 11am tomorrow. The earth is solid and that rain will wash off.

EmeraldRoulette · 19/07/2025 20:32

Oh, I would love a storm

@GloriaSmud looking ahead, any thoughts for weather in Essex/SE from week commencing 28th of July? Thanks. I'm trying to plan to avoid going into London for meetings if it's still really fricking hot. It's so humid here it's ridiculous. And it looks like it's going back up again from Friday.
