Thought I’d start an early thread on this. Friday looks very blowy here in Wales. We currently have a yellow warning, waiting to see if it’s upgraded.

SW London, something rolling/banging down the roof woke me at 5.

Some of next door's garage roof is in my garden.

Saucery · 24/01/2025 06:32

Sounds pretty fierce out there (NW England) and from what I can see from the windows so far, no damage or debris. Not looking forward to drive to work.

zen1 · 24/01/2025 06:32

Very windy here in London (sounds like a roaring gale outside) but we only have a yellow warning.

adminicle · 24/01/2025 06:37

Amber area here in N England, have been up since 6 as I couldn't sleep for the wind howling outside. Making sure phones fully charged in case we lose power.

wellhereweareonceagain · 24/01/2025 06:40

isle of man here, due to get the worst over next 2-3 hours, garden fence is groaning away but shed so far intact

Igneococcus · 24/01/2025 06:40

Awake since 3 am with the wind howling, an empty fridge freezer behind the house, which we're waiting for the council to pick up, has fallen over and just missed some of my troughs with herbs. And we are nowhere near the peak of the forecast winds yet.

LegoTherapy · 24/01/2025 06:42

I'm on the join of Amber and yellow warning in the north west and there's gusts of 61mph. Lots of old trees here on the walk to school and ds is worried about safety. Dd has a mock gcse exam otherwise I might keep them off. My thoughts are with those in the red zones. It's scary here and I dread to think what it's like there. I've been woken up several times in the night by the wind. The bins have gone over and it felt like the house was moving.

Lightswitchup · 24/01/2025 06:44

Our red warning starts at ten. It’s pretty noisy already.

Areolaborealis · 24/01/2025 06:48

Red zone here. Wind starting to pick-up now after a peaceful night. Very gusty but nothing out of the ordinary for winds in our area - the red warning doesn't start until 10am though.

TortillasAndSalsa · 24/01/2025 06:49

Just got woken up by an almighty gust of wind and rain battering the window and car alarms going off

TorturedPoetDepartment · 24/01/2025 06:50

Been woken by car alarms and roaring gales here in red area and there's still 6 hours until the strongest gusts are forecast.. going to be a looong day 😒

Thankful to be inside and thoughts to all those having to work/travel in this. Hope everyone is safe!

caffeineanddryshampoo · 24/01/2025 06:51

Only in yellow zone (edge of amber) but sounds scary enough gusts up to 63 but BBC weather says 50?! Dh sound asleep but I've been awake for hours. Can't imagine being in red,.

TheJinxMinx · 24/01/2025 06:58

Red zone here coast line too.. Hitting thick of it at 7am. Got woke up at 5.30/6 wind speeds 94kmph at the minute. Front door sounds like its going to come through its extremely noisy and electric cutting in and out

WeMeetInFairIthilien · 24/01/2025 07:00

Strangly quiet here in the SW, but can hear the trees at the top of the hill.

I'm putting the soundtrack to the Two Towers on, in the car this morning!

Hope everyone stays safe, and daylight brings reassurance.

Cosycover · 24/01/2025 07:05

Just outside Glasgow and it sounds really bad already. We aren't in the Red until 10am.

Sensitiveelephant · 24/01/2025 07:07

3 out of 4 of our fences down. Roof tiles fallen off. Car and van alarms going off all night. Trampoline down despite being secured.
Northern Ireland south east coast

ÚlldemoShúl · 24/01/2025 07:09

Bad in the Belfast hills. DH had to go to work- emergency services so I’m home alone listening to the wind howl. Thank goodness he got there safely. Electricity flickering.

DandelionPockets · 24/01/2025 07:11

Bit windy here in the west midlands, not noisy enough to have woken me early. Quick glance outside and all looks normal.

InMySpareTime · 24/01/2025 07:15

DS (who only passed his driving test last month) is driving from Manchester to Dundee today, we've tried to dissuade him but he's determined it'll be fine.
I've urged him to take it carefully, be extra vigilant around lorries, and stop for regular breaks, but he thinks I'm worrying over nothing.

We live west coast of Scotland too. On the waterfront. Husband says the windows will be fine but it already doesn't feel like it. It's hard not to be frightened by it.

This is insane. I'm in south Scotland, everything is closed, everyone's been told not to go out except for emergency. Your son will be putting himself and the emergency service at risk.

I would hide his keys.
He's not an experienced driver and obviously isn't ready to judge the safety of a journey. I had 2 learn to drive and they feel invincible at first.
