Thought I’d start an early thread on this. Friday looks very blowy here in Wales. We currently have a yellow warning, waiting to see if it’s upgraded.

Its howling outside, i got tele on lol its sounds so scary. The night i want to sleep I cant. Judge judy keeping me entertained lol

Xmasfairy86 · 24/01/2025 04:41

Cat wanted out 🙄 he woke me up howling at the usually open window. Took several attempts for him to leave. Hoping he’ll be back soon so I can attempt some more sleep.

it’s wet and windy here but nothing like elsewhere I presume

icebearforpresident · 24/01/2025 04:42

Only awake as I’m type 1 diabetic and hypoglycaemic so in my kitchen munching a digestive.

Wind here in my part of coastal Ayrshire totally normal. Nothing unusual for this time of year but the red warning doesn’t kick in until 10am. According to local facebook it’s utterly terrifying and they’ve never heard wind like it 🤦‍♀️.

daisychain01 · 24/01/2025 04:43

Just checked the Severn Crossings website and as expected the M48 (old) Bridge is closed but the Prince of Wales (new) Bridge is open so that's a good sign because it has only closed a handful of times since it was built and only in exceptional circumstances.

sounds like the wind is calming now, after a wild night. Rain was lashing against the bedroom window!

They were putting the bollards out yesterday afternoon on the old bridge ready for the storm, so it took me ages to get over, as they direct the traffic off onto the roundabout and back on again (as an interim step before full closure later) but getting everyone home safely was the main thing.

Shetlands · 24/01/2025 04:48

Coastal Devon
My local weather station is recording a wind speed of 70mph with gusts of up to 88mph.

Sending best wishes to all of you with red/amber warnings.

CherryBerry99 · 24/01/2025 05:00

Wind quite bad where I am in NI, it's woke me up and I can't get back to sleep. Feeling quite anxious

JanglingJack · 24/01/2025 05:18

It's very windy here in the Midlands and we have no alerts!
Thinking of you all caught up in the true ferocity. Stay safe and warm.

User345939 · 24/01/2025 05:26

I'm in Northern Ireland. Wind really bad now. It woke me up almost 2 hours ago and it's quite scary actually, I can't get back to sleep. Sounds like a hurricane out there. Worst winds I've ever known. Red warning very much warranted!

pawpatrolrider · 24/01/2025 05:30

Near belfast. Wind woke me up about an hour ago. Doesn’t sound good. My sister in law has been asked to head in before 7. Essential healthcare worker. Should have had her in before now

BearBuggy · 24/01/2025 05:34

Nothing in central Scotland yer but were red from 10am.

Iamcaptainlee · 24/01/2025 05:38

And here it is! Just been woken by battering winds and heavy rain.

Tangled123 · 24/01/2025 05:40

Winds have woke me up too but we’re not even in a red warning until 7am. I had to turn off the phone alerts too because it kept going off.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 24/01/2025 05:47

Very windy here in Se London, got woken up at 3ish. So

Cleebope2 · 24/01/2025 05:54

In hills outside Belfast. Had to get up at 5 and make flasks and hot water bottles as it sounds really bad outside and power could definitely go out later if this gets worse. Sounds like the windows could blow in. On my own this weekend , just the cat and me.

Iamcaptainlee · 24/01/2025 05:56

I really hope everyone is ok today especially those of you on your own.

SassK · 24/01/2025 06:07

I'm in Scotland on the west coast, within the red warning area. I've been woken by the wind and battering rain, very gusty already and we're not to see the worst until lunchtime 😟
I'm anxious, I see some of you guys are worried too 🤗 Both my hubby and daughter are relatively unfazed, which will help to calm me (my husband went out last night and secured garden furniture and bins etc).
I just hope the power stays on, and any damage (here and everywhere affected) is minimal 🤞

Hoolie25 · 24/01/2025 06:09

West of Scotland here. Been awake for over an hour listening to it. Sounds bad already and worse still to come.

HOTTOGOisastupidsong · 24/01/2025 06:10

North Down coast in NI and it is really quite weird here. Rain has stopped, but the wind is wild. It is so loud - 4/5 of us awake now - DH sleeping through but he’s having a rare lie in as no-one else has to get up for school/work so no shower rota this morning so glad he’s still sleeping.

I’ve been up looking out the window and it looks windy but no more than normal on a windy day. No trees down that I can see for now. (Although we had several down on the street thanks to Darragh so he’s maybe already taken the weak ones) The noise is incredible though - it’s the sea - it’s at the end of our street but just out of sight due to the angle. It’s quite weird to hear the the noise but not really be able to see the cause of it.

My hubby is fast asleep, hasn't stirred. I had a peek in my daughter's room and she's sound too. The dog is in his usual spot on the armchair in my husband's study - I got a lazy tail wag and he's asleep again. So just me, wide awake and worried!!! 🙈🙃

suki1964 · 24/01/2025 06:18

NW Coast of NI here, its a tad blowy out there for sure.

Ive managed 3 hours sleep but the noise is now definitely getting worse. Still pitch black out there so cant see a thing. Power is flickering

Thankfully neither the cat nor dog have shown any inclination to go out because I won't be able to get the door open. Darragh was bad enough up here, blew me clean off my feet when I had to take the dog out

Will hunt fill the flasks JIC ( we have a wee gas ring if we need it )

Fuckitydoodah · 24/01/2025 06:21

SW England here and it's howling outside and has been for a while. I struggled to open the back door to let the dog out.

Thinking of you in the red areas.

DorothyStorm · 24/01/2025 06:22

The wind woke me up at 5.50. Not looked outside yet!

HOTTOGOisastupidsong · 24/01/2025 06:24

Just heard someone’s glass recycling box depositing its contents down the street - grr! Everyone here has garages - why on earth didn’t they take it indoors last night??

DH now awake - no-one’s for stirring properly yet though. It’s cosy in bed! Power still on for now.

Interesting data. I've been telling myself all night that it can't as bad as I'm imagining, because we've only got a yellow alert and we get those all the time. But it sounded awful out there! I was woken up by a loud crash at 2.30 and I'm still waiting for it to get light so I can investigate.... (East Devon)

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 24/01/2025 06:30

Really wild now in Co. Cork. Very strong gusts. We're in the middle of our red warning which is 2am-10am.
