Thought I’d start an early thread on this. Friday looks very blowy here in Wales. We currently have a yellow warning, waiting to see if it’s upgraded.

Barra Best on Facebook is really good and informative if you're in Northern Ireland, and the comments section is helpful for road closures etc. I think he must pull all-nighters for these events!

I can’t find the alert from earlier anywhere in my
phone. I know someone said it was within Notifications but all I have is the option to turn the alerts off or on.

Same here. Definitely a flaw in the alert system if you can't bloody well find the information! All it does it make you shit yourself with the scary noise, gives you a glimpse of some words, then buggers off!

MakeYourOwnMusicStartYourOwnDance · 24/01/2025 00:12

Sheesh, I can't keep up. There's too many storms lately. At this rate, it'll be Storm Zoe this time next month 🙄😁

Bookish123 · 24/01/2025 00:15

I'm in the middle of the Irish sea and our first red warning for 10 years. Slightly worried by people saying Tesco had shut. When I went down earlier to our local one they had enough flags out my daughter thought it was Tynwald day! And totally open. People are very rude about them but it's a lifeline we don't take for granted

HOTTOGOisastupidsong · 24/01/2025 00:18

On the east coast in NI here and it is really ramping up. I’m not normally one for getting concerned about these things, but this one feels different. We came up to bed at around 10.45pm after Traitors and Uncloaked and it was totally calm. It was quite eerie - proper calm before the storm stuff. By 11.15pm I could hear the sea, and by 11.30pm the rain had started. The wind is now howling and the rain is pounding the windows. Red alert doesn’t start here until 6am.

Bookish123 · 24/01/2025 00:23

Ooh ok. Port Erin here, we're probably not far behind you. Thanks for the heads up

Solaire18381 · 24/01/2025 00:24

Stay safe everyone. I'm "only" in a yellow zone but very close to amber though so unsure how bad it will be.

Hoping for no more roofing issues, a couple of storms ago had trouble getting a roofer to commit and I got charged for things that weren't actually done!

TwentyKittens · 24/01/2025 00:26

Not sure about supermarkets, suspect they'll see how things are in the morning, but there's no trains running at all tomorrow north of Preston.

The email from Tesco HQ said stores in the red alert area would be closed tomorrow until the red warning is lifted and it's safe to open. They confirmed they're still open tonight

Solaire18381 · 24/01/2025 00:30

Thankfully moggy has just come in, please make sure your animals are safe too!

Starting to rain here and you can hear the wind start to stir up a bit through the trees. I'm right next to a wood so whenever anything like this happens, the sound of strong winds through woodland is awful. Hoping it's not as bad as forecast for all.

Peachy2005 · 24/01/2025 00:30

Middle of the island here @Bookish123 . Started to sound a bit windy recently, how’s it down south?. Do you have a trampoline I should keep an eye out for? We had one turn up in the garden last storm 🙃

OkPedro · 24/01/2025 00:35

Dublin here and it's really ramped up in the last 15 minutes. Feeling a little anxious

Treesinmygarden · 24/01/2025 00:36

LadyChilli · 23/01/2025 10:38

I know it's been said before, but please move any vehicles out of the way of your houses if possible. (my neighbours have all block paved their front gardens and park right underneath their roof lines. Some ended up with roof tiles through their windscreens)

This hadn't occurred to me (I'm in a red zone now) so thank you. I'm not optimistic that my garden fence will survive this storm as it was flapping around quite wildly during last year's amber alert storm.

We're a three car household atm and there's nowhere else we can park our cars! I guess we just have to hope for the best.

Love Barra.🤎

TwinsJan22 · 24/01/2025 00:38

Here in West Cork in Southern Ireland. Red warning active from 2am to 10am but it’s fairly bad here since around 10pm. Not normally an anxious person but I have to say it’s rattled me a bit! I’m exhausted but can’t sleep. Let’s hope it’s not severe as they thought. It always sounds worse at night

Bookish123 · 24/01/2025 00:40

Peachy2005 it's starting to get pretty wild if you live in an exposed place in PE but nothing we haven't had before

TwentyKittens · 24/01/2025 00:43

NW England here - wind starting to get up and the rain has arrived.

TooBigForMyBoots · 24/01/2025 00:44

Pishing down here now and the winds are rising.🌧

wellhereweareonceagain · 24/01/2025 00:45

Peel, isleofman, has really started blowing here and I suspect our shed is not going to survive. Supposed to be working down south tomorrow morning

TwentyKittens · 24/01/2025 00:50

We're only in an amber area but expecting 70mph winds inland. Not looking forward to it.

My mum is in a care home on the seafront, Northern Ireland and having her driver for end of life care started in the morning. I will have to walk as all public transport cancelled. Not good timing for us but I can't let her be on her own.

Oh no, that is so so sad, my heart goes out to you!

I hope you get to your mum, and are able to stay with her until the end. Surely a friend or a neighbour would give you a lift?

I've been there, I know how hard it is. Much love xx

BlackeyedSusan · 24/01/2025 00:52

Can't hear anything here yet but peak gusts in a couple of hours. Hate it.

rainbowunicorn · 24/01/2025 00:53

Seeingadistance · 23/01/2025 21:39

There was a message that came with the siren alert, but it vanished and I can't find it again. Does anyone know where it went and how to find it again?

It literally just said what the Met office page on red weather warnings says.

Izzy24 · 24/01/2025 00:54

Dreadful here already and only in a yellow warning. WiFi has disappeared.
