Starting this but I'll leave predictions to the MN experts.

Looks like colder weather at New Year. Hopefully the winter sun will make a return. It's been such a grey autumn.

I like blue sky in any season.

Wintry pale blue sky over a hard crispy frost
Spring blue sky with fresh green everywhere
Deep summer blue sky over dusty heat
Autumn blue against golden leaves.

Much better than wind and "sky-wet" at any temperature.

I vote for a nice blob of high pressure and a break from the jet stream please.

the weather for the next few days is confusing

I hate the cold. Can switch around plans for Sunday/Monday to avoid a lot of walking in the cold - but not sure if they're right. Currently showing Sunday as a few degrees warmer, which counts for a lot when you have to do all your errands on foot.

also now showing rain for tomorrow which is sudden.

GloriaSmud · 07/02/2025 07:45

EmeraldRoulette ~ it looks like the chilly temperatures continue for the next week or so, ranging from 6-8C for the south. It's looking mostly dry though, if a little dull at times.

There might also be wintriness for some areas overnight/tomorrow....especially in the south/over high ground.

EmeraldRoulette · 07/02/2025 12:27

Thanks @GloriaSmud

My feet are blocks of ice despite sheepskin slippers and thick socks. Fire lit. Dogs arguing over who lies closest. Jakers it's 🥶🥶

North Wales a bit of snow from midnight.

Delatron · 11/02/2025 18:50

God this weather is depressing. It’s worse than January!

midgetastic · 11/02/2025 19:18

Grey and cold and damp on repeat

Grey and cold and damp on repeat

I struggle to understand how anyone can enjoy this weather. A cold, crisp sunny day I understand but our default weather here seems to be this. Hoping for some sunshine soon!

justasking111 · 11/02/2025 20:05

I nodded off in front of the fire. Slept for hours. My feet are still cold.

midgetastic · 12/02/2025 14:03

Oh look grey and damp and cold again

Delatron · 12/02/2025 14:04

And looks like this for at least another week. FFS!

RainbowZebraWarrior · 12/02/2025 14:07

Edited as wrong thread.

Agree regarding perpetual cold, damp greyness.

FlowerpotZen · 12/02/2025 16:31

Better than another bloody storm I suppose. What I don't understand (and I've tried googling) is why high pressure now seems to present itself as an anticyclonic gloom instead of clear skies. Is anyone able to explain this?

Despite working outside, I've now bought vitamin D supplements.

Delatron · 12/02/2025 17:18

I’m not sure about the anticyclonic gloom. But I’m sure we are getting less sun than ever before.

Good idea about vitamin D. I take it Oct-April.

GloriaSmud · 14/02/2025 07:48

FlowerpotZen ~ I've just tried 'Googling' the answer to that as well and all it comes back with is that it means clear skies in both summer and winter, and we definitely haven't had/got those at the moment. The only explanation I can think of is that with high pressure sitting over us, along with little in the way of wind, clouds have formed and there's nothing to move them along in the way of low pressure systems.

<sigh> And it looks like the grey skies are going to continue for the next few days..... although there's a chance of some glimpses of the sun at times....

The grey skies are reluctant to clear even for the February half term holidays

Hope for inland sunshine on Friday but slow changes into next week for those on half-term holidays. This cloud is reluctant to shift as damp weather from the Atlantic hits the cold air in the east.

We had a lovely start to yesterday and then sleet on my way to work. Back to grey then for the rest of the day.

GloriaSmud · 14/02/2025 14:24

We have blue skies and sunshine here (Leicester) ~ so the sun does still exist! 🌞

Tomorrow looks awful though for us so enjoying it while it lasts!

Delatron · 14/02/2025 15:02

Yes a little bit of sun. I sat out in my garden with my coat on just to enjoy it for 10 minutes!! So rare.

countrygirl99 · 14/02/2025 15:11

Oh great. Just looked at tomorrow. I'm spending the day in a wood sorting out dormouse nest boxes. It pissed down last time too.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 14/02/2025 15:14

We have a snow and ice weather warning for our region tomorrow (NE England) so I'm planning on hibernating!

Delatron · 14/02/2025 15:24

Hoping DS’s football is cancelled. I’m done with standing freezing by the side of pitches!

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 14/02/2025 17:03

The sky is mainly blue and I can see the Sun. However …
