Yep, another named storm. Named storm number 10. Primarily an Ireland/Northern Ireland, Scotland, north Wales and northern England affair and does not look as severe as Isha.

Named by Met Éireann. Their warning starts tomorrow night.

The Met Office yellow warning for the northern half of Britain kicks in at 4pm tomorrow. I think it's possible amber warnings may be issued within that area for the early hours of Wednesday. We shall see.

Why so many storms? Are they actual separate storms and not just a continuing storm?

We’ve had a fence completely destroyed, no hope of getting it fixed before the Jocelyn by the looks of it. Had 70mph here last night and it’s still around 40mph gusts here atm. To get back up to 50mph by 9/10pm tomorrow night so not as bad but I’m worried about my tree. Some of the branches don’t look too healthy this morning, not sure we can get it looked at today though.

They are separate regions of deep pressure and hence separate storms. It is a particularly active year (in fact, the fastest getting to 10 named storms since 2015 when the Met Office began naming them). One also could argue that the storms in August were actually part of this seasons storms, rather than last.

The reason as to so many and so severe is complex, but essentially the jet stream is powerful and situated above us. We are in an El Nina year and the north atlantic surface sea temperature is anomalously warm. Last summer it was record breakingly high.

We seem over the past few years particularly to get stuck into prolonged weather patterns. Either the weather is very dry and stable for a long time, or it is very disturbed, with frequent storms.

I am still chasing an insurance claim for a flooded lift in our block on the South Coast following Storm Ciaran. I acknowledged that the loss adjuster had probably been very busy. He agreed, though it was worse elsewhere. He was expecting/dreading a call from his colleagues in the Scotland asking him to go up there to help them out for a few weeks.

I'm not really surprised about the expanded warning bit (which covers where I am) from midday tomorrow until 3pm Wednesday as when I looked at the GFS wind gust charts this morning, I thought that the bit south of the yellow warning area could do with covering as well but a bit later on. Seems the metoffice thought so too!

Back to weighting everything down in the garden again.

Well I'm in West Yorkshire and just had an email from powergen .. promising to help if I'm effected by it.

I saw this one out over the Atlantic while watching Isha yesterday.

Why does it feel like they always make landfall overnight when everyone is trying to sleep and it's much harder to fix anything which goes wrong? I'm sure the last few have all been overnighters.

The upside to that, @Flickersy , is that they're not doing their worst when people are out and about, trying to get to and from work.

It already seems windier here in Warrington than it was last night!

Scotrail are cancelling all services tomorrow night from 7pm again.

Is this it for the near future or are there likely to be more following?

Bimble for the near future, I think we are entering a quiet time. I think we don't need to worry for a good 10 days (as far as I'm happy to look into the future). I hope I'm not wrong!
