Yep, another named storm. Named storm number 10. Primarily an Ireland/Northern Ireland, Scotland, north Wales and northern England affair and does not look as severe as Isha.

Named by Met Éireann. Their warning starts tomorrow night.

The Met Office yellow warning for the northern half of Britain kicks in at 4pm tomorrow. I think it's possible amber warnings may be issued within that area for the early hours of Wednesday. We shall see.

Storm Jocelyn.

Pretty windy here in Northumberland. We lost power late Sunday night until 9 on Monday night so hoping that doesn't happen again.

Apparently the wind was coming from the wrong direction and because we're so rural we have more overhead cables. According to the guy at Northern Powergrid the way the cables are put up they are built to withstand wind coming from a particular direction but when it comes from another direction they come down more easily. Isha and Arwen came from a direction that is less usual in this particular area.

I'm not entirely convinced about that. Any weather boffins on here who could confirm or debunk this?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/01/2024 21:32

Arwens strongest winds were north - northeasterlies but Ishas were southwest - westerlies so that doesn't sound right feellikeanalien

North West Coast- it's dreadful. I think possibly the wind direction has changed compared with a couple of nights ago. It is really trying to get in my back door right now! Won't be sleeping, that's for sure.

BirthdayRainbow · 23/01/2024 21:49

It's started to get windier in the last ten minutes. SE.

CrunchyCarrot · 23/01/2024 22:04

Well this is blowing a lot more than Isha was - am in the W. Midlands. Very blustery now.

FilippityFiloppity · 23/01/2024 22:08

Another Midlander finding it worse than Sunday. We’re on reasonably high ground, but are generally protected from a lot of weather by hills ten miles or so away, so I assume it’s just hit the right angle to whistle past us.

Keep hearing a horrible grating noise that I can only imagine is roof tiles on the move Confused

Shessyillinbed · 23/01/2024 22:11

So very very windy in Northamptonshire

Fernticket · 23/01/2024 22:22

England/South Wales border. Poured with rain most of the day and the wind is beginning to get up
So far, not as bad as Sunday. Time will tell!

TheCaddieisaBaddie · 23/01/2024 22:28

Merseyside here on the coast, wind is worse than Isha.

Paw2024 · 23/01/2024 22:31

NW and sounds a lot worse out there now
The idiot cat keeps lunging at stuff blowing around outside, and head butting the window

WhathaveIdoneagain · 23/01/2024 22:33

North East here. More things are blowing over than on Sunday, and we hardly slept then. The roof was shaking. I might sleep on the sofa tonight.
It is bin day tomorrow as well 😫

WagWoofWalkMeeoow · 23/01/2024 22:33

Central South East. Hampshire meets Surrey meets Berkshire 🤪🤪🤪

very very windy again. Need to get these windows replaced, moved when next door put an extension on so now not airtight & no good for sound proofing 😩😩

DawnAnn · 23/01/2024 22:55

I'm in the North East and the winds sound louder than they did on Sunday..

SadCelticBunny · 23/01/2024 23:02

Definitely more windy than with Storm Isha here in South East Wales!

Mind you, our street is an absolute wind tunnel, you can be strolling along without a care and a light breeze gently lifting your hair, then you turn into our street and your hair is standing on end, your bag is flying out behind you and you are bending into the wind!!

AND one year everywhere else local had snow lying on the ground except for our street!!

It's the Gwent equivalent of the Bermuda Triangle!!

Whoknowswhatanymore · 23/01/2024 23:05

Yorkshire and much windier and wilder than Sunday.

LittleRebelGirl · 23/01/2024 23:08

Super wild here in windy wigan. Definitely worse than Isha. Friends fence is RIP after it blew off and hit her car in process. 🫣

justasking111 · 23/01/2024 23:11

I think the wind direction is making it sound louder because the wind speed is definitely less. Poor trees, roof tiles etc have caught it from two directions within 48 hours

GloriaSmud · 23/01/2024 23:19

Signing in from Leicester and another one who is finding the wind worse tonight than for Storm Isha.

Wetdogloveshubert · 23/01/2024 23:25

Even in Bristol it sounds awful tonight, stronger than Isha. 51mph gusts, so says the beeb's weather.

MirandaWest · 23/01/2024 23:25

Around York it’s getting pretty gusty.

seeitthroughmyeyes · 23/01/2024 23:26

Pretty bad down here in the south. 51 mph winds

PickAChew · 23/01/2024 23:32

I'm sitting in the Northeast corner of the house (it's not big, just square!) and enjoying the peace before I brave upstairs. The dormer in DS1's room was making horrible creaky and squeaky noises and I think we'll have to check the clay shingles on it in daylight, tomorrow. There were already some needing attention.

Vergeofbreakdown23 · 23/01/2024 23:38

We lost power Sunday evening with storm Isha and still haven't got it back! Estimated reconnection is Thursday evening! now storm Jocelyn tonight is worse than Sunday evening so I'm just hoping us getting power back doesn't get delayed further!!
West of Ireland xx

Cheshiresun · 23/01/2024 23:40

Well that's my roof damaged today by Storm Jocelyn! Can't understand today's storm is a Yellow warning where I am, but Isha was Amber warming, yet more damage has been caused today, around by me anyhow!
