Storm Ciarán

This is an early heads up.

Models have consistently been bringing in a deep low pressure for sometime over Wed/Thurs. As is often the case, details are yet to be nailed down, but some of the models are producing some severe gusts - southern coastal winds of up to 90mph and more widespread inland winds of around 60mph. With storms, comes rain too unfortunately. A wobble in the track could take them further north or, keep it all in France. Exactly when and where the low pressure develops will make a big difference in the outcome. More details to follow.

If the storm is named, it will be Storm Ciaran. At that point I'll ask MNHQ to change the title appropriately.

Yellow weather warnings have been issued now too, for wind and heavy rain, on Wed/Thurs. Impact matrix for the yellow wind warning shows high impact but unlikely (for now).

Placemarking. I am meant to be flying to Singapore from Heathrow on Wednesday morning.

cocksstrideintheevening · 29/10/2023 12:41

I've got to go from London to Leeds on Thursday, think will go up Wednesday and stay up there for work until Friday!

colouringindoors · 29/10/2023 13:11

I'm in Plymouth and it's looking a bit lively next week. Lots of flooding already (Looe, Truro, Tamar and coastal).
I've got my beady eyes on you Ciaran.

RoseAndRose · 29/10/2023 13:58

There are currently weather warnings (yellow, wind and/or rain) every day between now and 2 November, and with all the home nations being affected at some point

catskittens · 29/10/2023 14:20

Storm Ciaran its been named

FuzzyPuffling · 29/10/2023 15:09

Is it just my impression or are later charts showing Ciaran slipping south a bit? (So France will get the worst of it. Not gloating, btw, just saying).

Letspretendweareallcool · 29/10/2023 15:17

The weather report for a port in north west France has predicted waves at 10 meters for Thursday. Good photo opportunities though!

Mumoftwotoddlers · 29/10/2023 16:19

Yellow warnings issued for most of next week, unfortunately I'm not in any of them

FuzzyPuffling · 29/10/2023 16:22

I couldn't work out how to put it on but yes you're very right!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/10/2023 20:34

I've asked MNHQ to change the name please.

Models are split as to their route and their development still. I'll have a proper look tomorrow.

I have a lot going on next week. So hopefully it won't be too bad 😔

Swimbikerunmummy · 29/10/2023 21:42

Watching from Guernsey with only half a house at present 😬

MadCatLady27 · 29/10/2023 23:07

I have to travel to a different location for work Wednesday and it's a grim journey at the best of times (usually an hour and 20) so hoping I'm back home before it all kicks off...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/10/2023 07:35

The most likely scenario wind wise at present, is that the worst goes through the channel, but that southern coastal areas will see severe gales and a wider swath of southern england and wales sees general widespread gales.

Ground is saturated and trees are still in full leaf, so I'd expect to see many trees down in this scenario.

I'll be starting a thread for Saturday in the next day or so.
