Given the ongoing flood situation in some parts of Scotland and England, it seems tidiest to create a weather warnings thread, rather than posting many threads! When there are named storms or especially severe weather forecast, I'll try to create individual named storm threads where time allows.

The general autumn weather chat thread is https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weather/4874750-autumn-2023

Autumn 2023 | Mumsnet

As we're a few weeks away from the start of meteorological autumn (1st September), some early thoughts [[https://www.theweatheroutlook.com/weather-new...

It's warm here as well ~ 13.8C at the moment. I noticed a few ripples in our garden pond this morning so the frogs are gathering in readiness for the mating season....🐸

https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings#?date=2024-02-21 Yet more rain warnings I'm afraid. Up to 70mm of rain in places with tomorrows system. The warnings cover the SW and much of Wales. Given how badly rivers are flooding in parts of those regions, this is just going to add to the woes unfortunately. Expect further disruption to travel including rail travel.

Elsewhere, even where there is no warning, expect river levels to rise once more in response to tomorrows weather system.

Someone really needs to turn that tap off upstairs. Despite a few sunny and warm days my "lawn" is still a pond sighs

OH joy the rain has started

https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings#?date=2024-02-22 more warnings for tomorrow. Both for rain and for wind. The likelihood for wind damage is low, but if it occurs, it could be reasonably significant. High winds are possible, both as the cold front passes through and afterwards.

In terms of rain, although generally rainfall totals don't look very high - heavy rain will add further to river flooding issues.

Updated warnings. Hazards include flooding, high winds and lightning.

There is quite often the chance of an isolated tornado or two with features like today. Todays risk is primarily around the south coast. It doesn't mean that people should be worrying about it though - the overall risk of one occurring is low and even if one did, the chance of being personally affected would still be extremely low.

Just started tipping it down here (east Midlands, well inside the weather warning area).

Forecast suggests steady, fairly heavy rain all day, until afternoon, where it swops to mere rain, and might even stop at some point in the evening.

Tricyrtis2022 · 22/02/2024 08:53

The sky has turned dark in west Oxfordshire and now it's absolutely chucking it down.

TheOhGodOfHangovers · 22/02/2024 08:58

Absolutely hammered it down for hours overnight here and we’re not in the warning area. Dread to think how bad it will be inside the warning.

gingercat02 · 22/02/2024 09:33

Was raining a bit overnight here, but ɓrightish now. I was hoping to get in the garden over half-term but it's still a mud bath!

GloriaSmud · 22/02/2024 10:59

Main band of rain has passed through here (Leicester) and it's looking fairly bright out there at the moment. Bit of a drop in temperatures though ~ it's a chilly 5.6C, down from about 8C when I got up this morning.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/02/2024 11:23

Here it is a slightly lighter shade of grey with heavy rain due in the next couple of hours or so pushing up from the channel. This is where the main risk of some really torrential rain and perhaps thunderstorms lie.

We're going to plant a great big willow in the centre of the lawn, the wettest part as is DIL and son. They suck up water.

Same. I'm really struggling to know what to do with my lawn. My front garden drains well, but the back is boggy. Lawn is now a total waste of time. Don't like the idea of paving or artificial lawn. Need to have a look through the garden thread I think.

NE coast of England here and the sun has come out. Hope everyone in the warning areas stay safe.
