Given the ongoing flood situation in some parts of Scotland and England, it seems tidiest to create a weather warnings thread, rather than posting many threads! When there are named storms or especially severe weather forecast, I'll try to create individual named storm threads where time allows.

The general autumn weather chat thread is https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weather/4874750-autumn-2023

Autumn 2023 | Mumsnet

As we're a few weeks away from the start of meteorological autumn (1st September), some early thoughts [[https://www.theweatheroutlook.com/weather-new...

I'm in today's yellow rain warning area - not raining yet, but the light's just gone from the sky

I've seen news channel pop ups saying there are many flood warnings (notably the Trent and the Severn) but the ground must be saturated everywhere already.

Incredibly soggy day here in Plymouth all I can hear is rain and dripping. The house feels damp, the rail service is severely disrupted to SW. Horrible dark day.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/01/2024 16:59

Horrid out there.
Nottinghamshire has declared a major incident due to the Trent flooding.

We had lovely blue skies until about 4pm. I wore sunglasses on my morning dog walk. Now hammering down (Herts).

The photos of parts of Nottinghamshire look very worrying.

I am so SO done with all this rain. Having extensive building work and living on site and it is just super bleak. 😣

Vebrithien · 04/01/2024 18:08

I've just had to drive through 4 flooded roads to get to DS's preschool. Bath/Somerset area. The water is just rushing off of the hills in a huge torrent.

Titsywoo · 04/01/2024 22:06

The constant rain has done it for our flat roof on our extension and we have water coming through the ceiling 😪 Fibre glass was touted as the best flat roof solution - apparently not. Will need to pay £4k to replace with felt 😫 Looks like no rain and colder temps next week though!

Wee little ice warning tomorrow as overnight wintry showers could lead to tricky conditions on the morning commute in parts of the SE.

Thanks for the updates OYBK

And... back to this thread as we get back to the normal winter weather for this season this weekend.

https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings#?date=2024-01-21

The met office have issued a wide warning area for wind for Sunday. This has the potential for becoming a named storm. It's certainly something to keep an eye on.

OhYouBadBadKitten. Thanks again for the update. Well the sun and dryness was nice while it lasted! Here in the Midlands it's a glorious sunny day but very cold. So good to wrap up warm and get outside.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/01/2024 13:47

It's lovely down here in the south too.

Rain warnings added into the wind warnings. https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings#?date=2024-01-21 There is a significant risk of flooding I'm afraid, where heavy rain and a rapid thaw of snow on frozen ground is going to cause some real issues on Sunday and Monday. It looks deeply unpleasant.

I'm getting a little concerned by the potential of Sunday/Mondays storm. I think it may become named.

Just watching. A friend has to pick someone up from Gatwick early Saturday morning (from near Basingstoke)

BouleBaker · 18/01/2024 21:37

That doesn't sound pleasant at all. This must be one of the wettest Januarys we've had surely?

justasking111 · 19/01/2024 09:39

It's still not named but BBC weather Etc are warning about it

LittleCrackers · 19/01/2024 10:26

I received a(nother) MET office warning email, it is named in there now

I've just had a pop up which includes name: Storm Isha

TokyoSushi · 19/01/2024 10:46

Named just now as Storm Isha

Lots of updated weather warnings including amber for a large part of the west.

Makinglists · 19/01/2024 11:12

And North (apologies). Feels strange as its bright, sunny and calm - almost spring like , if it wasn't so cold.
