It is summer isn’t it? Is it?

Rain, wind, cool, feels like October.

Yep definitely feels like autumn today. It’s really dull and raining by me. Had to put lamps on today- hate that in the day time! Feels wrong!

DrCoconut · 14/07/2023 16:32

I'm fed up of the near constant rain and wind. I shouldn't be shivering in jeans and hoodies when its nearly the summer holidays. We need a temperature increase of at least 5 degrees (10 would be better) and a stop to the rain ready for our seaside holiday! We get so little time away and the weather blights it too often. And no, whatever the sparkly hot chocolate people say it's not the same huddling together in waterproofs as sitting out in beautiful sunshine.

madeinmanc · 14/07/2023 16:35

It's awful and I doubt it will be hot again this summer.

JamSandle · 14/07/2023 16:43

The only positive for me is the neighbours kids have gone inside so I don't have to hear them playing XD

Sadly I suspect you are right. Summer was short (very!) and sweet. 🙁

Sweetashunni · 14/07/2023 16:47

YANBU, just went for a walk in leggings and a long sleeve top and even then I was shivering a bit. Fucking July! Is this it for the next 11 months or so??

WinchSparkle80 · 14/07/2023 16:52

On the South coast ish in the middle and it’s pouring, and it feels like it has been for a fair few days now. Next week looks much the same.
Cardi on and kiddos have fluffy socks on!

TiredandLate · 14/07/2023 17:02

I'm flying out to Spain then Italy next week and cannot wait to warm my bones up it's absolutely shite here!!

StefanosHill · 14/07/2023 17:05

20 here loads of rain but the garden needs it

Grass was getting brown

Denisthemenis · 14/07/2023 17:17

I know I'm strange but I actually prefer it like this! . I can't cope with heat as I find it drain my energy and summer is my least favourite season. It was really hard working in the heat recently in a stuffy classroom.

deeplybaffled · 14/07/2023 17:19

And it’s St Swithin’s day tomorrow, with a threat of 40 days more rain. I refuse to allow that. When I rule the world, I’ll ban weather like this in the summer and it shall only rain overnight, to sort out the crops and gardens and let us all sleep well!

Crikeyalmighty · 14/07/2023 17:32

@mambojambodothetango I don't think it was like that everywhere though- we live in Bath and I cannot remember it getting over 25 degrees any day here and some in the teens and we had plenty of rain too in the early part of June - indeed I remember making a post about it

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 14/07/2023 22:37

Yeah but May and June were unusually gorgeous and hot and more like July and August. I have been on daytrips and weekend trips, with DH, a couple of friends, DC, and on my own. AND I have a good tan. Swings and roundabouts. I am sure by the end of July things will have turned around, and summer will be back! And just be grateful it's not almost 50 f*cking degrees! (Like in the med.) That would be FAR worse.

Some people are just never happy. Be grateful it was nice though May and June. (And it will very likely be nice again soon!) Probably have the 'oooh it's so cold I need my heating on' posters whingeing about how it's TOOOO HOT in a few weeks. 🙄

@deeplybaffled

You do know don't you, that if it rains on the 15th July (St Swithins Day) that it doesn't actually mean it will rain for 40 days and 40 nights?! Confused

You can't actually believe that! It's a myth! 😆

deeplybaffled · 14/07/2023 23:42

Oh dear. A myth, you say?

< cancels order for ark.>

AlphaAlpha · 14/07/2023 23:51

Seemed appropriate.

Where are you? Because it hasn’t been like that where I am. Spring was almost non-existent here, followed by some lovely blue skies with a bastard biting wind. Quite a few very warm/muggy days with grey skies. And an occasional day where you think “ah, summer at last” only to face downpours the next day.

garlictwist · 15/07/2023 04:29

My car said it was 13 degrees yesterday (Yorkshire). I had to put the heating on for a bit yesterday to dry my washing.

CrazilySensitive · 15/07/2023 05:38

Where I am in East Sussex, it's actually been lovely weather recently - about 20/21°C and sunny, fairly consistently for about three weeks, since that June heatwave ended. I didn't cope at all with the heatwave inJune, so was grateful for the drop, and it's been sunny since. Yesterday was the first chilly day in ages, and we honestly could do with more rain, as it's very dry here. I really can't complain. Different in different places I know.
My only concern is the gale force winds expected today! But I'll go with the flow... No pun intended!

SecretVictoria · 15/07/2023 06:15

It’s shit. I work outside and we had to switch the portable heater on yesterday. It’s July FFS. We should have warmth and sun for at least the duration of summer, not just a couple of weeks. If I was younger and employable I’d look to move somewhere warm.

We were in New York a couple of weeks ago and it was boiling; every day in shorts, was lovely. Much nicer than having to bundle up in coats in summer.

BooksAndHooks · 15/07/2023 06:24

Early 20s isn’t summery could do with a couple degrees more. It isn’t so much the temperature that’s the issue though it’s the constant cloud and rain, making if feel so much colder. The May half term was 16 degrees but sunny and felt so much nicer. Haven’t seen a non cloudy day since the start of July, and not one sunny day upcoming either.

madeinmanc · 15/07/2023 10:04

Not everyone was able to make the most of the warmer weather in June, also it wasn't the whole country.

Vintagevixen · 15/07/2023 11:45

We Autumn/winter lovers are happy, I've really enjoyed the summer this year so far.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 15/07/2023 13:52

I love this weather! Hate the heat. But must admit it's more like April than July. Lots of showers... keeps the garden watered 👍

Winnerturkeydinner · 15/07/2023 13:56

I love it like this but I'm odd.
