Old thread:https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weather/4767111-spring-weather-watch?page=6&reply=126854914

After the dramatic weather for some over the last few days, mostly covered in the Thunderstorm warning threads, I think it's time to switch to a new thread. After all, we are two weeks into meteorological summer.

Page 24 | Spring Weather watch | Mumsnet

Optimistically we turn our eyes towards Spring weather in the hope that we are in the last throes of winter. But March is a capricious month. ... It...

Love this thread and always follow it ...but ...
I thought I would give you a heads up on next year's weather....

There will be no heatwave or extream weather because....

I have just bought my DC's table top cooling fans for Christmas presents as they were on a really good special offer..

Soz 😂😂!

Have a great time at Chester Zoo! We went a couple of weeks ago when it was hot, and the place was heaving, to the point that we left early. Hopefully your day will be better!

Weather was kind and we only had a few light showers. Zoo was busy but not heaving so was actually ok. Glad we went!

Hello all. Back from my holidays now. The weather there, was similar to the weather here. Grin

Hopefully some signs of things settling as the kids go back. Such an old fashioned summer that we've had.

bizzey Grin That reminds me about who to blame when it comes to the summer we've had ~ my DH. He bought a fan at the end of last year that was on offer. He's used it a couple of times, mostly in June when the weather wasn't too bad but has put it away now, grumbling as he did so that it was his fault that the summer was awful because he'd bought the thing!

Grin OYBBK 'Old fashioned summer' is quite a good way of describing it. I was saying to DD1 that we've got a bit used to extreme temperatures that it's come as a bit of a shock that the summer hasn't been great this year.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/08/2023 10:16

It does look like summer may return next week for some of us, at least temporarily. Warm/hot air looks to be drawn up over southern England and the Midlands from around Tuesday. Temperatures look to be pegged back a few degrees in the SW and it doesn't get especially hot in northern England or Scotland.

Just in time for the poor kids to be ensconced in their stiff, hot new school uniforms, asking teachers if they can take their jumpers off.

Thanks Kitten

Delatron · 31/08/2023 11:32

Thanks @OhYouBadBadKitten just saw this on the forecast. It really is an old fashioned summer - warming up just as the kids go back. What a shame!

InMySpareTime · 31/08/2023 11:40

Summer without kids everywhere suits me (mine are grown up), could you nudge it a bit further north please?

MotherOfCatBoy · 31/08/2023 15:39

12 bloody degrees here this morning! (S Wales). 12!
Had enough. Roll on next year.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/08/2023 15:58

It has been completely pants today.

Next weeks heat would be an extraordinary turn around after today.

Pixiedust1234 · 31/08/2023 17:28

Looking forward to Tuesday! Although I do have a hospital appointment so I bet the heating will be cranked up to maximum even if outside is a heatwave 🙄

justasking111 · 31/08/2023 18:13

Took grandchildren to see a film it was raining when we arrived and raining when we left. The film was so bad I read a book on my phone.

They go back to school on Wednesday so daresay the sun ☀️ will come out then. Son back from camping in Criccieth, conservatory full of wet bedding. They said the leaves were falling off the trees already. 🙈

beenrumbled · 31/08/2023 20:18

Love Criccieth!

Leaves turning and falling here too@justasking111
The blackberry bushes in our jungle garden were ripening in July a d tbe chestnut trees dropped their conkers at the start of August.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/08/2023 20:47

What an end to Meterological summer today.

It does look like next week will be a great deal warmer everywhere. But perhaps hot in the south.

Cooler in N Wales next week, but South looking nice, looking at the storms off USA I do wonder what the fall out will be here

lingmerth · 31/08/2023 23:33

Just finishing a weeks holiday in south lakes. Forecast before we arrived was awful, 1 dry day. Actual weather has been dry, warm and sunny all week. Rain looks set for tomorrow but we can cope with that.

Thehuntess · 01/09/2023 09:42

Schools return next week and it's going to be 24-26c here !

I know. I love autumn so I'm not happy about the heatwave here in the SE. We've not had the washout most parts of the UK have had and my soul yearns for autumn

TheYearOfSmallThings · 01/09/2023 10:16

I will enjoy autumn all the more after a week or so of solid sunshine and warm days!

Back to school weather should be beautiful - and it never gets outrageously hot in September.

Pixiedust1234 · 01/09/2023 11:38

Actually I'm fine with the cooler weather but for goodness sake, can somebody turn off the sprinkler system upstairs? I'm so so tired of the dampness.

It's forecast to be 26 degrees soon, feels like 29 which to me is outrageously hot for September!

TheYearOfSmallThings · 01/09/2023 14:20

But it won't run amok and start zooming up through (Shock) The Thirties.

nomdegrrr1 · 01/09/2023 16:03

Many years ago it was 30C at the end of October (Yorkshire).

I don't rule out anything.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/09/2023 18:47

Met Office Summary for summer, is that it was measurably a warm, wet summer. Overall temperatures were propped up by a hot June and warm nights. Sunnier in the north than the south, which was rather average, veering dull.
