Old thread:https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weather/4767111-spring-weather-watch?page=6&reply=126854914

After the dramatic weather for some over the last few days, mostly covered in the Thunderstorm warning threads, I think it's time to switch to a new thread. After all, we are two weeks into meteorological summer.

Optimistically we turn our eyes towards Spring weather in the hope that we are in the last throes of winter. But March is a capricious month. ... It...

@GloriaSmud I've just checked the ticket info and in the event of bad weather, alternative arrangements will be made. I hope they are - I have a bad feeling about the weather. Mind you, the car is waterproof so we could aways have a picnic in there.

justasking111 · 17/08/2023 12:20

We're supposed to be at a castle outdoor event no chance of a car bank holiday weekend to see a production of Romeo and Juliet 🙈

GloriaSmud · 18/08/2023 07:15

nomdegrrr1 Looking at the GFS, the band of rain gets to the Batley area, roughly about 9pm so possibly/hopefully towards the end of the performance?

justasking111 it's waaaaay into the future but at the moment, the GFS is saying possibility of showers (more chance of showers in the north/Scotland.) Sunday and Monday look a little better.

It's such a shame that so many events have been affected by the 'summer' we've had.

BiddyPop · 18/08/2023 09:41

There's a yellow warning for rain and wind kicking in later this afternoon here in Dublin. It started raining last night and it's the constant setting drizzle all morning here so far. Apparently quite wild at the local beach 3 miles away with waves big enough for surfers (rare on the east coast!) and enough for DDog to turn back for the first time ever - but almost dead calm at our house with barely a flutter of the leaves in the "gusts".

nomdegrrr1 · 18/08/2023 11:01

@GloriaSmud Thank you. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Currently cold and wet in Leeds.

GloriaSmud · 18/08/2023 11:44

@nomdegrrr1 I've just checked on the metoffice website and they've pushed the rain back to 10pm. That's obviously not 'set in stone' but the later the better!

Wind is going to be another problem, especially for the SW and West coast of Wales so not surprised that there are weather warnings for that as well as for rain and thunderstorms, issued by the metoffice.

We've got drizzly rain here (Leicester) at the moment which the metoffice gave us a 10% chance of having. It's been going on hours!

nomdegrrr1 · 18/08/2023 13:14

@GloriaSmud Thank you! That's reassuring about the rain, and I'm keeping all crossed that we'll stay out of the wind - it's all trees around there!

I'm sure that it will be fine, but it's made me chuckle that it's the last day of rain in the forecast and it's the day we've been waiting on for months.

BiddyPop · 18/08/2023 15:09

It's been named Storm Betty here, and warnings upgraded to orange for the entire southern part of Ireland as far as Wicklow, and yellow north of that line.

BiddyPop · 18/08/2023 17:29

Further upgrade to red status for southern Irish coasts. It's only heavy rain and still maybe force 1-2 wind in Dublin but raining sideways in Cork.

nomdegrrr1 · 18/08/2023 22:29

Got lightly rained on during performance but the show went on.

It's supposed to be worse tonight.

GloriaSmud · 18/08/2023 23:28

That sounds bearable, nomdegrrr1
We’ve had some light rain but that’s about it so far, expecting heavier stuff during the night.

justasking111 · 19/08/2023 00:00

Already lively in Rye. Just walked the dog it's very humid weather,

Igneococcus · 19/08/2023 08:35

West coast Scotland, we are not even in an area with a warning but there are several reports of trees blocking roads on the local Roadwatch FB page. There are at least three within 2 miles of my house. It has calmed down a bit now.

LemonDrizzleDessert · 19/08/2023 10:11

Hullo, can I join in?

All welcome I believe @LemonDrizzleDessert 🙂

BiddyPop · 19/08/2023 18:12

It was a lovely hot sunny day here today so a great day for getting washing dried and mopping floors. Hot water tank heated from sun so I had a lovely hot shower after my sweaty efforts and decided to wear a summer dress for dinner as it's likely the only chance I'll have this summer! I am now sitting outside but sun has gone behind some (high up) clouds so I may have been too optimistic even for that!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/08/2023 21:26

Definitely all welcome.
Ive not abandoned people, just having a nice holiday. Back in a couple of weeks.

Welcome, LemonDrizzleDessert

Week coming up - first few days, there might be the odd shower, especially in the North/Scotland and they could be heavy at times. Dry and warm for everyone else.
Later in the week, unsettled for just about everyone. At the moment, the GFS has all the horrible, unsettled stuff clearing out of the way in time for the weekend.
Bank Holiday weekend is looking OK at the moment.

Driving me bonkers that even on days when it’s forecast to be dry, we STILL get clouds and rain bubbling up out of nowhere, showers, then sun again. I mean I know I live in Wales but we could really do with just a few days in a row of sunshine! Washing always in and out, garden always wet, everything starting to go a bit green… dreading winter after this.

LemonDrizzleDessert · 21/08/2023 16:22

Thank you @heldinadream @GloriaSmud and @OhYouBadBadKitten

GloriaSmud · 25/08/2023 07:02

Bank Holiday weekend and it's not looking too bad. Few showers about at times. Temperature's could be slightly warmer for the time of year but at least it's looking drier, which is something.

justasking111 · 25/08/2023 07:03

N Wales forecast lots of rain and thunderstorms 🙈

GloriaSmud · 25/08/2023 07:13

OK - not fine everywhere! Grin
I think today and tomorrow are the days when there could be showers/thunderstorms but after that, the risk diminshes.
