Old thread:https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weather/4767111-spring-weather-watch?page=6&reply=126854914

After the dramatic weather for some over the last few days, mostly covered in the Thunderstorm warning threads, I think it's time to switch to a new thread. After all, we are two weeks into meteorological summer.

Page 24 | Spring Weather watch | Mumsnet

Optimistically we turn our eyes towards Spring weather in the hope that we are in the last throes of winter. But March is a capricious month. ... It...

Mine has changed too! I'm quite pleased as 25 is easy to manage and work in

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/08/2023 12:52

I wouldn't focus on app forecast temperatures at this point. It really depends on where the forecast high pressure settles as to how much warm air will be advected over us.

There is however a Met Office warning for heavy rain tomorrow! Thunderstorms are possible for the SW and over Wales into the northern Midlands, north of England and Scotland. Torrential downpours are possible.

Incidentally, for the next couple of weeks, I'm not going to have easy access to weather models, other than the occasional chance to peer at my tiny phone screen. I'll pop in with any significant updates if I come across them,

@OhYouBadBadKitten what neck of the woods are you in, is it south coast somewhere?

In the south. Wink

Watch the farming forecast tonight until the high nudges north we're stuffed. Disneyland Paris is a washout this summer friends said.

Only asking because me and my DH are house-and-cat-sitting in a house in Southampton, and yesterday we noticed there's a house opposite (the back of the house, it backs onto the street we're in) that has a weather station on a pole and loads of solar panels, then on closer look the weather station is attached to a mysteriously solid looking white outbuilding in the garden. By mysteriously solid I mean it's sort of built more like a war bunker than the usual garden building. Anyway we got talking about amateur meteorologists and I mentioned these threads and your expertise so we were just imagining that it could be you!

House sitting is a blast by the way, it's like moving into other people's lives temporarily, much more fun than straight-up holidays.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/08/2023 14:14

That sounds intriguing held. Definitely not me though!

Currently in a very wet Lake District car camping it has poured down all day. I'm going to have a snooze until 7.00 pm in the hope that it eases off then and I can make a cup of tea!

Delatron · 14/08/2023 18:36

Good lord the forecasts are changing by the second. It seems to be getting worse though. Saturday in particular has gone from high twenties to showers and 20 in the south. Most disappointing. I know nothing is set in stone but I find the closer you get the more accurate the forecast gets.

Delatron · 14/08/2023 18:37

Mind you that’s the BBC. My phone app and the BBC seem to keep swapping around so I’ll believe the one that says sun and 24!

justasking111 · 14/08/2023 20:01

West coast much cooler at the weekend.

heldinadream · 14/08/2023 20:48

@OhYouBadBadKitten looks intriguing too. Perhaps they are undercover weather watchers for the CIA.
It's a long time since I've been staying in any town other than London. We usually cat-sit either in London or right out in the sticks, and we live in the sticks too, so Southampton is weird compared to what I'm used to. People walking right past the kitchen window! I seem to be following potential storms round the country too but never catching them. I LONG for a decent storm, I LOVE storms. Here for a month. What are the chances? At the moment there's one forecast for Friday but I've seen them forecast and not appear far too often.
Perhaps I should go knock on the weather-watcher's door and see if they have any inside knowledge...Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/08/2023 21:34

It does look like another very short warm spell Sad

Chances for storms on friday look fairly high, somewhere towards central eastern areas, but impossible to be specific at this point.

I don't see why not. It's obviously their hobby( hopefully not the previous owner or their dad who used to live with them ) and they might be glad of an opportunity to talk about it.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/08/2023 20:28

Keep an eye on the forecast for storms on Friday. They might be quite potent.

Oh boo!

justasking111 · 15/08/2023 21:54

We had far more rain today than when they were giving out yellow warnings last week.

EmmaEmerald · 16/08/2023 11:28

Have to do long Tube journeys on Tuesday and it says 27. Not fun.

Delatron · 16/08/2023 14:17

I just don’t think it will be 27 next Tuesday to be honest. They forecast that for this weekend then all of a sudden it changes back down.

All the forecasts are different too (which is helpful) my phone app is claiming 27 degrees next Tuesday, 28 on Wednesday and 29 on Thursday (SE). Where has this come from? BBC weather app says 23. There’s a huge difference between 23 and 29…

The bbc weather is always wrong, never worth looking at that.

seems hotter than forecast today.

Delatron · 16/08/2023 18:05

It did seem warmer than forecast today. I think it was the lack of wind (finally).

Agree BBC are the worst- there’s just such a discrepancy between all the forecasts! My phone app doesn’t seem accurate either.

Perihelion · 16/08/2023 20:17

Schools back today and as expected weather really quite nice apart from a wee shower in Inverness. Was a wee bit flummoxed on the drive up yesterday as was feeling warm in a t-shirt when I stopped at Dalwhinnie. Dalwhinnie is about 350 metres above sea level.

nomdegrrr1 · 17/08/2023 08:58

We're due to go to an open air performance of The Importance of Being Ernest tomorrow night in Batley, just when the BBC have a band of heavy rain passing through. I have a bad feeling about this.
