if you have clear dark skies looking to the north, go outside now! Even reportedlyvisible from some parts of southern England.

Thank you!

I'm afraid not @RedCarsGoFaster Forecasts for particular locations have really short lead times. It looks like the latest coronal mass ejection (CME) has just arrived, so sometime tonight, but like last night, will come in pulses.

Remember when looking at forecast sites, you don't need to be under the aurora to see it, you can be hundreds of miles away and see them close to the horizon.

Don't forget to keep camera batteries warm if you head out (in an internal pocket). A red bike light is really helpful for seeing your equipment without destroying your night vision too.

Last nights was a G2 event. Tonight might be a G3 event. But we need a lot of luck, including weather and where that aurora oval is in relation to us.

Lovely pictures on this thread!

I'm distinctly Envy

oh wow!

www.tvcomm.co.uk/g7izu/radio-propagation-maps/auroral-propagation/

If I'm reading this correctly, radio auroral activity over England right now. Of course we can't see it, what with it being day light. I also don't know how that tallies with visual aurora.

We need a space weather expert!

Wow, not sure how I missed you all, or this last night, but checking in for tonight!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/02/2023 13:59

I'm worried about cloud tonight. It's going to spoil the party for many of us.

What we need is for this clear slot to advance in this evening. It won't help all of us, but it could help some.

I've got a feeling I'm not going to see it tonight again, last night was just so cloudy so think it will be a repeat for me. I'm so jealous of all the pics!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/02/2023 15:18

Looks like it will be a similar time to last night ish. From around 8pm to Midnight with I guess a peak somewhere between 9 and 11. But this is a very uneducated guess. Looks like it might reach southern England again if you have a clear horizon to the north.

Best place to be is NW and central northern Scotland, where a combination of strong aurora and clear skies should be spectacular.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/02/2023 15:21

Northern Ireland, a pretty good chance for you too, with decent length clear spells and of course being further north than many of us.

Thank you! I've sent the information to my mum. She may fare better than me with the weather !

Windy1234 · 27/02/2023 15:54

It's very cloudy in central/west Scotland just now, do you think there's still a chance to see it tonight? Gutted I was sleeping last night

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/02/2023 16:45

I'm not sure Windy I'll cross my fingers for you. I'm using meteoradar.co.uk/clouds-sun-UK-Ireland for my cloud cover watching.

I'll be looking skyward tonight, I'd love to see them.

Furries · 27/02/2023 17:00

Wow, some amazing photos on here - you lucky bunch! Doubtful I’d see anything here, but I’ll definitely be keep an eye out tonight.

MegBusset · 27/02/2023 17:14

@OhYouBadBadKitten what do you reckon to the highest chances in Norfolk? East or north coast, what kind of time?

HeavenIsAHalfpipe · 27/02/2023 17:17

You're fab @OhYouBadBadKitten !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Will look out again tonight. Though it is f**king cloudy here right now. GRRRRRR! Angry

Thesearmsofmine · 27/02/2023 17:37

I’m really hoping we can see something tonight, fingers crossed for everyone.

FriendlyLaundryMonster · 27/02/2023 17:46

I managed to see a little from my house in Edinburgh last night. What is the best Aurora watch app site for real time alerts?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/02/2023 18:03

I'm going to struggle to keep up this evening. Late running meetings and I'm trying to find a clear site for me to head to later. I think I'd go east coast for Norfolk though looking at the clear slot. But dont hate me if I'm wrong.

meteoradar.co.uk/infrared-satellite-UK-Ireland switch to infrared for your cloud watching.
