if you have clear dark skies looking to the north, go outside now! Even reportedlyvisible from some parts of southern England.

Off out to the Welsh coast once it goes dark. Fingers crossed everyone.

Perihelion · 10/05/2024 21:42

This is looking quite promising to actually see aurora without using a camera 😍

Perihelion · 10/05/2024 21:44

Downside of living in Scotland is it's not dark yet..

PriamFarrl · 10/05/2024 21:50

I’m on the East Coast (ish). What are my chances.

Perihelion · 10/05/2024 22:06

As long as there's no cloud and it keeps going, should be good, going on what Europe is seeing.
Still not dark here

flatwhiteinabucket · 10/05/2024 22:09

@Perihelion how can you find what Europe are seeing right now, please? Is there a webcam etc

TheChosenTwo · 10/05/2024 22:12

Feels like it’s either not quite dark enough here (SE), there’s too much light pollution or they’re just not reaching this far down!

Perihelion · 10/05/2024 22:16

Photos on twitter. Photos show up aurora that can't be seen with the naked eye, but if it can be seen on camera in Germany and Slovenia then it will be visible in Scotland as long as the cloud stay away, when it actually gets dart

flatwhiteinabucket · 10/05/2024 22:28

@Perihelion thanks, that's v encouraging... not seen anything yet in North Yorkshire!

PriamFarrl · 10/05/2024 22:29

Oooh. Our street lights here go out at 11.30 so I’ve got a better chance then.

yetanothermum2twins · 10/05/2024 22:51

Visble in Kent through camera

Visible to the naked eye in Edinburgh. Mental colours with the phone 😍

Stunning display in Norfolk, clearly visible to the naked eye

Absolutely amazing, visible to the eye, but stunning through a camera, to watch it rippling and shifting.

I can see a green/pink tinge with the naked eye but through the camera, wow !

Streaks and pink tones visible to naked eye in darkish part of Wiltshire countryside. Absolutely incredible colours through iPhone camera!

Keeping my fingers crossed for tonight (currently 5:48pm here). We’ve got a wildfire burning 25km south-west. Keeping our fingers crossed the wind doesn’t shift.

JaneIves · 11/05/2024 01:05

My SM is full of pics from where I live in the SE, but I'm working tonight in the eternal orange glow of Londons streetlights!
I hope it continues tonight (Saturday) as I'll be at home eagerly watching from my windows!

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 11/05/2024 01:53

I read that it would be really strong around 2am so we've been looking out. It's just so oddly light outside I don't think we have any chance of seeing anything.
It's usually pitch black here as we have no streetlights etc.

QueenBitch666 · 11/05/2024 01:58

Cheshire 😍

The sky was purple to the naked eye here for a bit around midnight. We stayed out until half one. It was worth taking ds2 out and climbing the nearest hill. It's rare that teenagers are impressed by much.

@QueenBitch666 oh wow! What time was that at ? I fell asleep early last night 🙈

GloriaSmud · 11/05/2024 06:29

DH and I drove out about 11.30pm to find some dark skies, west of Leicester. Picture 1 (slight green tinge) was taken early on and then got picture 2 about 15 minutes later.

And according to Spaceweather, looks like there could be more aurora-spotting chances to come

Visible in Hampshire but some of us were asleep last night......

I do hope they're out tonight too.
