if you have clear dark skies looking to the north, go outside now! Even reportedlyvisible from some parts of southern England.

What are the predictions for tonight? I completely forgot this was happening so went to bed! 😅

Perihelion · 11/05/2024 08:30

Good chance for a repeat tonight, but maybe not as strong.

EwwSprouts · 11/05/2024 11:20

I'd gone to bed but DS woke me as he was seeing posts online. Great show in East Yorkshire just from our house. Better than we saw in Iceland!

Radio news said that tonight's aurora would be best from 11pm onwards.

Visible in Hampshire but some of us were asleep last night......

I do hope they're out tonight too.

Also in Hampshire, I posted to say maybe it was too early etc but in the end at around 11:30 it was really clear to see, amazing!
it’s pretty cloudy here now where I am but hopefully it will disappear this evening and we will get another good show, tempted to drive up to the army land nearby where it will be darker but it’s a bit of a scramble and I’m currently nursing a damaged ligament in my leg so perhaps not the best idea 😂

Countrylife2002 · 11/05/2024 16:31

Another one who went to bed! Absolutely gutted. Fingers crossed for tonight. I’m south so a bit worried about the reports saying it may only be visible in the north. Will give it a go though.

Mothership4two · 11/05/2024 16:42

Me too @Countrylife2002

Countrylife2002 · 11/05/2024 17:29

@Mothership4two ive got two apps ready! I’m such an idiot I read about it but didn’t really believe it !

PriamFarrl · 11/05/2024 17:31

My friend on the Isle of Wight posted photos so it was visible very far south.

Same here it was just another thing on my long list of things to remember which I forgot 😅

merrymelodies · 11/05/2024 19:12

DD and I are kicking ourselves this morning as we missed them last night. The one time we actually went to bed early.Sad

Aquarius1234 · 11/05/2024 19:18

Not sure if it's worth going out late tonight in South East Kent.
The sky isn't as blue as yesterday. Looks pale grey hazy all day.
Yet it says clear skies on forecast.

Perihelion · 11/05/2024 20:29

Geomagnetic activity has totally dropped. So won't see much unless it changes. I go by the graph on Aurora watch https://aurorawatch.lancs.ac.uk/
NOAA predicting more incoming tomorrow, but think it will be too cloudy.
The stars were aligned last night, to have clear skies and only a sliver of moon.

I think it’s at a similar level to this time yesterday…

justasking111 · 11/05/2024 21:19

Cloudy here so no point in staying up

Countrylife2002 · 11/05/2024 21:51

Looking promising here ! Red alert

Conniethecatapillar · 11/05/2024 22:13

@Countrylife2002 I am surrounded by lights in my estate and they don't go off until 12! I hope you see something!

Babybreath · 11/05/2024 22:21

I could only see them through my phone camera last night, so held the camera up to the sky just now and took this picture- I thought it was some sort of galaxy.

Picture below

CarolineFields · 11/05/2024 23:41

not a galaxy

Babybreath · 12/05/2024 08:13

@CarolineFields , I realised it was a spider web 😂
