if you have clear dark skies looking to the north, go outside now! Even reportedlyvisible from some parts of southern England.

@user1496262496 I'm sorry, I really don't think that is the aurora. (on your pics at 23.43.)

user1496262496 · 26/02/2023 23:46

Cameras always see the Aurora 100 x better than the naked eye… except my phone’s camera which is rubbish

JennyWreny · 26/02/2023 23:38

There is literally nothing there but the ocean… and then Greenland. I am in the Outer Hebrides. No light pollution at all

Anglesey 20 minutes ago

I wonder what experiment just took place with this effect

OhNoNotThatAgain · 26/02/2023 23:48

I said earlier I thought I was imagining a greenish tinge on the horizon to the north. I just went out 2 minutes ago to have another look, and I wasn't imagining it - if anything it is slightly stronger now and has changed position slightly. So a tentative yes from Beds.

If you play about with the settings you might get better results, unless your phone is ancient. If it's a Samsung, see if there's a Pro mode where you change the ISO to 800 or 1600 and shorten the shutter speed to 10 or 15.

Just north of Dundee earlier this evening:

Oh Wow beautiful

DianeBrewster · 26/02/2023 23:59

not nearly as exciting as those from people further North - but I'm still excited by seeing even this faint a display so far South. Taken 10 mins ago, edge of the South Downs national park, Sussex. (you can tell Northern orientation by the visible constellations). Only the faintest hint of pink and green, seemed a bit stronger when I was looking through the actual camera.

Beautiful @DoratheAurora Smile

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 27/02/2023 00:01

Never seen the red alert disturbance level so high on my app. Sadly it's thick cloud cover here in West Yorkshire :(
Gutted.

Same in S.Yorks, clouds and light pollution only. Never gets dark here

Stars & a very bright moon here (south coast of England) but no aurora. I looked to the east & the sky looked brighter, but DH said it was a street light (out of sight to us)...

PurpleEmpress · 27/02/2023 00:04

Thanks for the alert. Just visible from near the North Downs in Surrey, looking north of course

Pennina · 27/02/2023 00:04

Might be wishful thinking but a pink tinge to the north, maybe. I'm in North London/Herts border. Loving everyone's pictures from Scotland.
