if you have clear dark skies looking to the north, go outside now! Even reportedlyvisible from some parts of southern England.

I’m just over 56 degrees North, so similar latitude to Northern Scotland.

Mind you, it’s only 3:22pm here.

Pixiedust1234 · 27/02/2023 22:24

I'm a very grumpy pixie as its thick cloud atm 👿

Wildlynx · 27/02/2023 22:30

Clear green glow from top of downs south of Newbury. Nothing spectacular but amazing to see it and know what it was. Local dogging spot was heaving 🤣🤣🤣

Where in Norfolk please? We're on Old Hunstanton cliffs looking exactly north but there's nothing except ship lights on the horizon. And rain and cloud.

Norfolk/Suffolk border. No light pollution here and the cloud cleared.

I'm trying to figure out it my sky's green glow is Aurora or just town lights

UsingChangeofName · 27/02/2023 22:34

Some beautiful photographs on the news just now, but I've been for a little stand outside and can't see anything.
Downside of living in a City I suppose.

I've decided the slight green to tinge in my photos of clouds is definitely aurora, so I'm sure yours is too 😉

OnMyWayToSenility · 27/02/2023 22:36

Just had a quick look out and the sky is lighter than it's ever been but nothing spectacular! North Oxfordshire
Maybe be later it will be better

Hebridean · 27/02/2023 22:37

My other half took these two tonight, from our garden (damn him, he always gets better pics than me)

They had one from Stonehenge at the end of News at 10

AdventFridgeOfShame · 27/02/2023 23:34

Stonehenge does have very low light pollution.

Windy1234 · 27/02/2023 23:54

Drive around for two hours and all I could find was a lighter sky Sad

I'm going to struggle to keep up this evening. Late running meetings and I'm trying to find a clear site for me to head to later. I think I'd go east coast for Norfolk though looking at the clear slot. But dont hate me if I'm wrong.

East coast was a good call @OhYouBadBadKitten - thanks!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/02/2023 07:36

Having gone through social media, it seems that there was a brief burst just before 9pm. I'm not sure whether there were any further bursts later on. It seems that the main show was Sunday night.

It might be worth casting your eyes over the sky this evening, but I think chances are probably much lower. (in typing that, probably find it turns out to be amazing!)

Thanks for a great thread, can I ask how people were aware about it initially for Sunday night, do you follow an app or is it just luck of the draw that you're out there? I would love to be more prepared for next time x

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/02/2023 09:01

AuroraWatch UK app and people I follow on social media.

Thank you @OhYouBadBadKitten, is the Aurora watch uk app the same as the Glendale one? Xx

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/02/2023 09:13

You can see here that the main event was before it got dark and then around 9pm.

Yes that sounds about right. We saw it around 9.00 last night. Luckily it was clear then, cloudy after that. It didn't last as long last night but it was much stronger to the naked eye.
