Storm Eunice

This thread covers the expected severe weather on Friday - named Storm Eunice by the met office. At the moment there is great uncertainty, so the met office have put out a very wide yellow weather warning. It looks likely that some regions within the warning area will see gusts of 60-70mph inland, with a small chances of inland gusts above 80mph. The storm also carries the potential for some blizzards, but again there is currently considerable uncertainty.

A separate thread exists for Storm Dudley which is expected Wednesday/Thursday.

Well watered

Louisianagumbo · 17/02/2022 23:11

@WhoAteAllThePasties
I think it depends on what which part of Lancashire you are, most of the county is covered by the amber warning, but some of it is yellow.

I did wonder that but on my photos you can clearly see it says Lancashire and when I look at your picture, I live in the amber part not the yellow part. But it still says yellow on the app. So... 🤷‍♀️

Never mind, it will be what it will be.

South coast of Cornwall and while the gusts are picking up now it's nothing out of the ordinary. Not expecting anything too dramatic until the early morning!

crackofdoom · 17/02/2022 23:14

Just starting to pick up now in the Helston area- bang on the forecast time. Time to go to bed with my earplugs in and hope for the best.

Chaotica · 17/02/2022 23:15

Very calm and peaceful in Northamptonshire. Not due anything until morning.

cabrillolighthouse · 17/02/2022 23:15

Calm with just a little drizzle here in North Wilts between Bath and Swindon.

Setting my alarm for 5am to drive 2 miles to give the horses hay to munch on for the day whilst they are tucked up in their stables. Hopefully I will be ahead of the worst of the storm.

JustSinginIntheRain · 17/02/2022 23:15

Near the Severn Bridges. Totally calm so far.

Waveifyouknowme · 17/02/2022 23:16

Rural Dorset, can glimpse the sea from some rooms, completely calm as is the sea. Makes me realise why people believed so strongly in God's that had to be appeased.

TheGonnagle · 17/02/2022 23:17

Birmingham calling…
So calm here, the air is completely still.
But I have a big headache which I am sitting on with red wine.
Sleep well everyone.

ToniLaRoni · 17/02/2022 23:20

Totally still here in rural Surrey.

Very big old trees in our garden. So I'm a little apprehensive.

Also just snuggled into bed (spare room as I have Covid) and realised I've not done any jugs/bottles of water in case we need then tomorrow so now I'm going to have to sneak to the kitchen and do some before I can get to sleep.

Greattimestroubledtimes · 17/02/2022 23:21

Calm here in East Somerset. No wind at sll

ChurchlightJane · 17/02/2022 23:22

North Cornwall coast seafront. Was just looking out of our bedroom window at the local lighthouse and noticed the wind start to pick up but the sea looks and sounds reasonably flat so far

VittysCardigan · 17/02/2022 23:26

North Somerset, all quiet so far

Doghairismyglitter · 17/02/2022 23:27

Cornwall here and can hear the wind picking up, but nothing out of the ordinary yet. Highly doubtful but if my Tesco man delivers my food shopping I have a large tip ready for him!

FavouriteMug · 17/02/2022 23:29

Eerily calm here, South Gloucester

HemanOrSheRa · 17/02/2022 23:30

We're in Bristol on the border of North Somerset and quite high up. I took the dogs out for last wees about an hour ago. It was so, so calm. More so than the last few days. It's started raining now. I've panic baked pasties and cake. Got flasks ready. Pondering whether to fill them now just in case. I doubt we will lose electricity supply but we are on full electricity, no gas, so better to be safe than sorry. Even a couple of hours can be miserable with no power and no hot drinks.

LostInWales · 17/02/2022 23:31

Right on the edge of Wales here (sign used to read 'Last pub before Ireland' if anyone recognises that!) and it's just starting to bluster a bit, can feel the drafts moving through the house and hear stirrings outside. First wheelie bin worry about 5 mins ago Grin.

If anyone understands these things on earth null school thingy why does the core resemble an earthworm and what does that mean ?

Also not sure you'll see this OYBBK but thank you for these threads that are always brilliant.

bowlingalleyblues · 17/02/2022 23:32

London. Calm and even a little warm (went out in PJs to get garden furniture into a sheltered corner off wind trap patio).

youhadmeatjello · 17/02/2022 23:32

Very calm in east anglia too, bizarrely so.

Fordian · 17/02/2022 23:33

A few miles north of Southampton. Just about to go to bed. Checked outside. Utterly still, gentle rain. And weird, hysterical bird noise!

But. I lived in Queensland for many years and know how quickly destructive weather can hit.

However, it's still weird, In very southern England, to think how this might change into the maelstrom of a category 1 hurricane in 5 hours' time!

Potentially.

I'll update 😂

GeraneousGiraffe · 17/02/2022 23:33

Rains picking up where I'm working NR Bath

I'm fighting the urge to go back downstairs now to panic bake a pasty
SonicBroom · 17/02/2022 23:42

@OhYouBadBadKitten I am due to drive from SW London to Kent tomorrow morning 9am, back 12pm. That’s not a good idea is it??

Midday is going to be peak for Kent, I wouldn't if you can avoid it.

HemanOrSheRa · 17/02/2022 23:48

Ha! ChurchlightJane Grin. It's a family trait of preparing food for emergencies. My sister is doing similar right now too Grin. Our Mum was the same!
