Storm Eunice

This thread covers the expected severe weather on Friday - named Storm Eunice by the met office. At the moment there is great uncertainty, so the met office have put out a very wide yellow weather warning. It looks likely that some regions within the warning area will see gusts of 60-70mph inland, with a small chances of inland gusts above 80mph. The storm also carries the potential for some blizzards, but again there is currently considerable uncertainty.

A separate thread exists for Storm Dudley which is expected Wednesday/Thursday.

South Cornwall here reporting in - closest town is probably Redruth and I'm very close to the coast. We have rain and it's really warm - too warm for the time of year - and the winds are starting to pick up a bit.

All tucked up indoors, everything locked away in the garage and fingers crossed.

Sending good luck to everyone and hope nobody gets blown to bits !

I will try to update tomorrow depending on whether we retain power and/or interwebs !

Waving to the West Coast Welsh (half of whom appear to live in my village!) fingers crossed we keep the power! Stay strong *@SirVixofVixHall* 😘
Yes I just nipped down to the seafront to check on something and the rain is horizontal already, and it's very noisy
Louisianagumbo · 17/02/2022 21:17

@OhYouBadBadKitten
There have been no changes to the met office amber warnings for tomorrow since this morning.
On the BBC weather app it got downgraded at about 11am this morning. We had awful forecasts for yesterday and today but we hardly had any problems yesterday - just a normal Lancs day. A bit worse today but nothing out of the ordinary.

Pebbledashery · 17/02/2022 21:18

Sophie. You did say party.

Concentrate, Pebbles. This is Storm Eunice.
Pebbledashery · 17/02/2022 21:19

Haha oh I do apologise.

MinglingFlamingo · 17/02/2022 21:19

Proper raining here not Cornish mizzle and it's in sheet.

I'm not far from Beryl and I thought it was rather mild too. Everyone is tucked up here inside drinking wine WineWineWineand hope everyone else is too x

Imsittinginthekitchensink · 17/02/2022 21:20

I'm in London and it's all very still at the mo. Calm before the storm?

Lockheart · 17/02/2022 21:22

Another in London - not expected to hit here until around 7am. Which I'm very grateful for, as my room is in the roof of the house and I can't sleep when there's a strong wind. I hope there's no significant damage to the tiles.

As I said upthread, I'm getting up at 6 and going to the office to weather it there.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/02/2022 21:26

I feel very weirdly in limbo at the moment. Its just a case of waiting and seeing how it develops now. Next model runs out in about an hour.

I advise trying to get a reasonable nights sleep for people. Check your windows are shut, so you can sleep through the first gusts.

Tomorrow, please don't go out to try and experience the winds. It isn't worth it. If you feel the need to experience 70-80mph gusts, next time you are on the motorway stick your head out of the window instead. Don't go out to try and fix fences that are coming down. You wont win in the wind.

Well I don't have much choice about travelling tomorrow, we are on holiday in Norfolk and have to be out of the cottage by 10am, nowhere to go but home! Will be driving to Surrey, so pretty much into the storm - too late now to leave tonight and leaving early tomorrow wouldn't make much difference due to direction of travel. We'll just have to see how it goes and stop somewhere en route if it seems too dangerous.

Tootyfilou · 17/02/2022 21:27

Both myself and DH have to go to work tomorrow Hmm . I must admit I am very anxious! It’s about a 35 minute drive along B roads. I’m scared !

TheAbbotOfUnreason · 17/02/2022 21:29

@Louisianagumbo

NW England remains an Amber warning for 05:00 - 21:00 tomorrow - both BBC and Met Office apps.

LIZS · 17/02/2022 21:29

Ds train tomorrow got cancelled and it is proving a headache rearranging his plans and train tickets.

CornishTiger · 17/02/2022 21:29

@Dianaofthelakeofshiningwaters

Can I join the Cornish crew for some handholding. Last time I looked we were bang in the middle of the red zone.

School closed tomorrow and DH just home from work at Treliske and said all routine appointments in his department for tomorrow cancelled but he still has to go in. Have told him not to go on Hamburger Hill as winds there are always bad. He's v nonchalant but I am getting a bit worried. Thought I was being organised but got last box of candles from Mole Valley earlier!

Feel like I am waiting for armageddon now ...

I agree. Police might close that stretch if it gets too bad. It’s got cross winds on a normal windy day.
Delatron · 17/02/2022 21:31

Looking at the forecast for here (Bucks) I think the school run won’t be too bad then kids are safest in school until the worst passes through.

Motorina · 17/02/2022 21:32

@Donatella, assuming you can cope with dogs and cats, message me if you get stuck. I'm in Suffolk and have a spare bed.

Dartford's going to be hell, by the way. I'm sure you know this. They'll close the bridge and divert everything through the tunnel. Expect long, long backlogs.

We don't need to do Dartford luckily, will go via Cambridge and anti-clockwise round the M25. Very kind offer but there are 8 of us in total so I think a Premier Inn would be a better bet!

Shwmae fellow West Wales coasters!

Dead calm here ATM. I can't decide whether threads like this help or make me worry more! On balance I think they help as I am definitely better prepared than I have been before, but sometimes I mildly envy the blissful ignorance of my neighbour, who popped round earlier and mentioned they'd closed the school tomorrow (I know, my DD goes there too), and asked me if I thought it would be bad. Yes. Yes I do think that.

Will probably have to drive DH to work in the morning which I'm not thrilled about. He usually walks (over the - wooded in places - cliff path so NOPE) and I suggested he take the car as I won't need it for school run but parking is going to be a nightmare as all day parking is either on the prom (closed) or in a car park surrounded by old buildings which in high winds shed slates which damage cars, so also no.

Which leaves me as taxi driver otherwise he'll probably insist on walking, the maniac.

PickAChew · 17/02/2022 21:36

@FuzzyPuffling

I'm right in the danger zone. Proper north North Coast. Someone on holiday has been sent home from their caravan as it's deemed too unsafe to stay. I'm not surprised. I'm glad I'm not in a caravan.
Sensible. This caravan park in Arwen's red zone was turned upside down. www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-east-news/crimdon-dene-caravan-park-arwen-22296295

Can someone advise me? We got a monstrous behemoth of a trampoline during covid summer to keep the kids happy. It's really heavy but we're also the only ones on our road with one and I really really don't want to cause anyone's property any damage. DH has buggered his arm and I'm disabled so I'm not sure what I should be doing to secure it (even if I could manage it) we've managed to put a heavy kids slide on it to weigh it down on one side.
We're in the Midlands so hopefully it won't be as bad here. No school closures have been announced.

Greattimestroubledtimes · 17/02/2022 21:42

In Somerset here, about 15 miles from the red zone but our forecast is for gusts 20mph higher than on the coast. Don’t understand but never mind staying in anyhow.

DD livid because her school had an INSET day and now everyone has one…

marieantoinehairnet · 17/02/2022 21:42

Need to drive from Scottish Borders to bloody Kent coast tomorrow, absolutely not up for it... DH at home, myself and DC have been visiting family, DN reckons "it'll be ok"... I am less care free

Same here, and monster trampoline is right in line with neighbours chicken coop... poor chickens

I'm in London and had plans to head across town, (taxi) about 4pm. I'm just wondering whether the worst of the storm would be in the morning?
