Bit of a wild few days in store. The met office have named the storm on Weds/Thurs as Storm Dudley, so forecasts and impacts will go in this thread for those two days.

I'm about to start a separate thread for Storm Eunice which covers Fridays weather.

Oh I missed that, thank you!

Doghairismyglitter · 16/02/2022 15:27

Just about to do the hours walk to collect DC from school and nursery, can’t say I’m looking forward to it one bit! Normally cut through a long wooded area to save time but definitely avoiding that today 😬

ListenLinda · 16/02/2022 15:31

It’s getting heavier here in West Yorks. I’m watching a tree having a right old rattle. Had a message from Northern Powergrid too, hope it doesn’t come to that though.

liveforsummer · 16/02/2022 15:33

Wow, really just ramped up here in Edinburgh, has even woken the dog and that's unusual. Suspect this is just the taster though. Still need to go out for some shopping and regretting not going sooner now

EezyOozy · 16/02/2022 15:34

Can anyone recommend a good app or site for watching the storm move ? Thanks !

randomsabreuse · 16/02/2022 15:40

Storm seemed to come in around 3pm just north east of Glasgow. Watched a squall come across the school playground waiting for the kids to come out then got scoured by slightly lumpy rain on the way home. Couple of moments when it was hard to make progress!

Hatches battened down, waiting for DH to get back from work.

Hope the trees on the "drive" (it's a cul de sac built on what was the garden of a big old house) but is adopted survive. Storm Arwen blocked us in!

CatDogMonkeyPOW · 16/02/2022 15:47

We had some pretty horrific weather here in West Cumbria starting at about 2pm, but it blew through very fast and it's now quite calm with blue sky. Was that it?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/02/2022 15:48

You can see a map of current gusts www.xcweather.co.uk/GB/observations

I'm in Northumberland. It's very windy and the lights have been flickering a bit. Stocked up on candles and batteries yesterday. We've lost power with the last 2 storms and I think some of the repairs have been patch ups so I'm fully expecting to be without power at some point.

Just a bit nervous for DD coming home over some exposed high ground from school.

MinnieJackson · 16/02/2022 16:13

Herefordshire here, any advice? I think we're in the overlap but not sure. Our local weatherman said we might be upgraded to red 😣 already lost some tiles and now three fence panels

Scarby9 · 16/02/2022 16:14

Just had a terrible squall in York. Torrential rain lashing across.

randomsabreuse · 16/02/2022 16:19

Definitely got hail at the moment. Fairly bright though (NE Glasgow)

I'm in London, was debating getting on the 5pm East Coast Mainline to Edinburgh until the very last minute then decided not to. LNER website just saying speed restrictions so expect an hour's delay which wouldn't have been so bad but whi knows for sure.

Then a window of opportunity to get home tomorrow before Eunice, currently booked on the 2pm train, give them time to lift all the tree trunks off the track.

I'm told its fairly calm at home in Edinburgh right now, it's fairly calm in London too. Maybe I should have got on that train.

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 16/02/2022 17:23

@Teaandakitkat if you look at the Flightradar thread, a poster there is saying how v windy it is near the airport. I think you've made the right decision.

FelicityPike · 16/02/2022 17:25

My lights are flickering like mad. Good job I have more tea light candles than is needed.

It's coming in waves in Edinburgh, crazy gusts and hammering rain then not so bad for a time and repeat. Some planes have been struggling to land already. As we go through the evening though it looks to be stronger and more sustained. Scotrail services cancelled since 4pm. I'd say you made the right choice.
Teaandakitkat · 16/02/2022 17:49

LNER website still suggesting trains will just go slower and arrive only an hour late.
I need to stop checking, I can't change my decision now.
Bloody weather.

What they can't predict though is if a branch/tree or some debris will end up on the line. I guess it's a huge decision to actually cancel a mainline train like that so they won't do it unless certain it's necessary. Hope you get back soon.

West coast of Scotland here.

Wind is now relentless.

Thunder and lightning earlier plus hail.

Can't tell if the rumbles right now are the wind gusts or thunder or both.

We are a few hundred metres from the shore so fairly exposed.

Dinoboymama · 16/02/2022 18:26

We are not far from the coastal areas in West of Scotland we haven't had any thunder or lightning yet.
We just have the wind and rain.
I have our battery packs charging incase of a power cut. We haven't a big power cut in years when the boxing day storm was.

NoWordForFluffy · 16/02/2022 18:39

NW coast here. It's really starting to pick up now.

It's bin night tonight, but I hope people leave it til the morning to put them out, or it'll be a night of being woken by bins galloping down the road!

MaebeaorNot · 16/02/2022 18:51

Worcestershire here, been very windy all pm - particularly around 4-6. Seems slightly better now, but still gusty.

Am worried about my roof as lost some tiles in Autumn and it took ages to get someone to replace them! Plus it tends to be very wet here early Spring (river levels already seem high).

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 16/02/2022 18:58

Getting a bit lively in south Cheshire.

NoWordForFluffy · 16/02/2022 19:15

Chucking it down here now!
