It's slightly mad to start a thread before we've even hit October, but I know that many are quite anxious about the prospects of cold weather this winter, so I'll start it early.

The usual caveats apply : I'm not a professional forecaster. I often get things wrong! Please don't make decisions on what I say - especially ones that have safety or financial implications.

This far out all we can talk about is the balance of probabilities, we can't make predictions. And as we know with probability, the improbable happens!

At some point this thread will start to get confusing as everyone gets excited about christmas weather. I'll start a separate, specific christmas thread about five weeks before Christmas.

Lots of power cuts in North East Scotland showing on PowerTrack. The line engineers will be busy this evening.

My mum lost power about an hour ago but still has a mobile signal.
She reports that she also has "nice bread, ham, cheese & olives for supper with plenary of wine" but no heating, or light - has got torches.

Ooh, another tracker

An hour or so ago I saw, literally - and I do mean literally - five or six snowflakes in the midst of light rain. Now it is just cold, dark, and rainy.

gingercat02 · 26/11/2021 18:15

North East England coast here. Wet, wild and very cold. We've just been out to bring in everything from the garden that's likely to blow around! Looks like tonight will be horrendous. DS will be delighted if we get snow we're too near the sea for snow usually

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/11/2021 18:50

lovely to see some of the long term weather watchers back here Grin

I wish it wasn't under such extreme circumstances though,

I’m too far south for Storm Arwen to be of concern. But we still have a yellow warning for wind and snow. I’d love some snow. The wind is noticeably colder - I’ve retreated indoors and lit the fire.

Thinking of everyone weathering the stormy conditions in the NE. I hope you all stay safe.

MedusasBadHairDay · 26/11/2021 18:56

@Delatron

My prediction for us (s.bucks) is a bit of sleet overnight that won’t settle as ground too warm.

Hope all those in the red areas are ok.

I'm hoping that's the case, got plans this weekend that I'd rather not cancel
RainbowZebraWarrior · 26/11/2021 20:03

Scary here!

BadgeronaMoped · 26/11/2021 20:40

Evening, weather people! I've been out this afternoon and secured potential 'flyaway' things in the garden. Netweather and the Met Office predict we may get a dusting of snow here (Staffs Moorlands), but I'll wait and see how it goes (I'll be lamppost-watching this evening). DC keep asking me when it will snow Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/11/2021 20:47

Hang in there Zebra.
I'm going to stick with the www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weather/4410738-Storm-Arwen thread rather than trying to keep up with two over the next 24 hours.

Proper snow in the West Mids!

tapdancingmum · 27/11/2021 09:47

Nothing here, not even a light dusting but my sister in Stokenchurch has had a slight covering. Just looks blinking miserable out there. Oh well, off to town shopping instead of the Christmas market in Winchester as one of my team (it was a works outing) tested positive yesterday 😢

Let's know hope it now freezes overnight (but only on football pitches) so football is cancelled.

Delatron · 27/11/2021 10:28

Yes I saw on Facebook they had some in Stokenchurch. That’s about 8 miles from us but higher. I wasn’t expecting any. I came home at about 12 last night and it didn’t feel cold enough.

I’ve learnt to ignore my phone app which promises 80% chance of snow!

Good start to the winter though let’s hope for some more snow potential.

InMySpareTime · 27/11/2021 10:39

Apparently there was snow in Manchester last night, but it didn't breach the Snow Shield™️ enough to get as far as Trafford.

Delatron · 27/11/2021 11:57

Went for a run and had some sleety snowflakes fall on me. So I’ll take that! It’s so cold out there.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/11/2021 19:07

There's a reasonable chance of snow again tomorrow evening into Monday for many who experienced it and some who didn't today.

Winter wonderland here. So weird after the mad storm. We had a brief interlude when it was totally calm with big flakes. Back to slightly high winds now.

MedusasBadHairDay · 27/11/2021 23:22

My phone weather app just popped up with a notification about being due snow here in Bucks, but nowhere else is saying the same.

GloriaSmud · 28/11/2021 08:08

'Tis a chilly -0.7C here (was -1.5C just before 6am) and there's a covering of frost on the pond. Going to a Farmer's Market this morning so woolly hats/gloves will be needed!

Justmuddlingalong · 28/11/2021 08:10

We've got snow here. (Fife)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/11/2021 08:43

Some (very light!) snow in Suffolk. Not much but enough to excite the kids!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/11/2021 08:53

You seem to be in a showery feed delish :)

The snow showing on AROME Sun 28 Run 00Z, 10am gives location as being near Carlisle.

On Twitter, there are posts says it's snowing in Carlisle
twitter.com/chrissybolton/status/1464901799253622793
So lets see how far south that snow tracks.

OublietteBravo · 28/11/2021 11:15

Currently snowing on the N Yorks/W Yorks/Lancs border.

beenrumbled · 28/11/2021 12:20

Manchester snow shield has been breached- currently snowing about 10 minutes form the city centre.
