It's slightly mad to start a thread before we've even hit October, but I know that many are quite anxious about the prospects of cold weather this winter, so I'll start it early.

The usual caveats apply : I'm not a professional forecaster. I often get things wrong! Please don't make decisions on what I say - especially ones that have safety or financial implications.

This far out all we can talk about is the balance of probabilities, we can't make predictions. And as we know with probability, the improbable happens!

At some point this thread will start to get confusing as everyone gets excited about christmas weather. I'll start a separate, specific christmas thread about five weeks before Christmas.

and settling Shock

InMySpareTime · 28/11/2021 13:42

Snowing all over Manchester and settling.
Heaton Park was snowy enough for throwing snowballs (not that I tried 🤪)

My parents have had loads in West Yorkshire.

Pleased the Manchester snow shield had been breached!

South Yorkshire here. Snow started at 5am Sat morning. Froze down last night after stopping early doors. Started again at 1pm today and not stopped yet. Settling and looking very festive.
Not looking forward to the 6am walk to work. Poor DP is on at 4am. Why couldn't it come this time next month!

GloriaSmud · 28/11/2021 15:24

beenrumbled - that snow shield doesn't get breached very often Xmas Grin

We've had an unexpected breaching too - it's been snowing for about an hour here (Leicester)

Snow in low lying south cheshire this afternoon. We get a fluttering of snow once or twice a year so to have a blanket of thick wet flakes in November is unheard of.

tapdancingmum · 28/11/2021 18:03

Quite big flakes and laying in the roads where I am. Football went ahead a d that was blinking cold. We had to change cars to the one with winter tyres to get our fish and chips 🤣. Hoping it stays and snows more so I can call a snow day tomorrow as my staff can't get up the hills.

tapdancingmum · 28/11/2021 18:04

Forgot to say I'm in Bucks.

whojamaflip · 28/11/2021 18:06

Snowing hard here in north cotswolds and settling. Snow we had yesterday had all melted and it started again here about 4.30. Kids have disappeared out to go sledging (there's just about enough!)

Delatron · 28/11/2021 18:14

We finally have a bit here in south bucks. We’re so low down I wasn’t expecting it!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/11/2021 18:20

I'd like some snow!

Perihelion · 28/11/2021 18:48

I'd love for you to have some snow OYBBK.
For the first time ever I was unimpressed waking up to snow, as was driving to Stirling, to go skating this morning. Grin
The roads were fine and seemed to be less snow the further inland we went. Odd, because it usually snowmageddon if there's snow at my house.
Currently 1C which may have prompted me to buy another pair of waterproof winter boots Blush

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/11/2021 19:15

I'm happy now. Grin

So often I forecast it for others and it misses me. Not today. There's enough for a snowball fight. Xmas Grin

Enjoy your snow OYBBK Grin
We got an inch or so and it's still here.

SendARavenToRiverRun · 28/11/2021 20:11

So glad you got your snow OYBBK. Enjoy your snowball fights!

Justmuddlingalong · 28/11/2021 20:54

Our local forecaster (feels disrespectful to the MN forecasters saying that) is keeping a wee eye on the 7th of December or thereabouts. I know it's a way off, but anything jumping out?

TokyoSushi · 28/11/2021 20:59

We had snow today!! Not a lot bit a good start to the season!

muldersspeedos · 28/11/2021 21:00

We've got a couple of inches here over lots of ice and it's now foggy. Lots of accidents locally because people have no common sense and think that snow and ice doesn't alter anything. It does when the council don't grit the roads. Our school is on a steep un-gritted hill. If it isn't a bus route or a motorway it won't be gritted here. School say they are still opening tomorrow though even though it's not going to reach above freezing until nearly lunchtime Hmm The walk to school will be fun.

Thefuturestory · 28/11/2021 22:37

Also keen to know about snow next weekend in Bath/Bristol area as we are visiting there and I’d rather not hit snow with child in car.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/11/2021 09:29

I'm afraid at the moment there are contrasting forecasts for the weekend - mild and not mild. I have no idea which will be right. The met office seem to be going for mild in the south, potentially snowy 'up north'.

OP posts:
GloriaSmud · 29/11/2021 10:14

Was down to -3.8C overnight here. I know the council did grit the roads (I heard one go past just before midnight) but due to the way they timed it, I don't think it did much good as even the major roads around Leicester had a layer of snow on them this morning. Looks pretty enough though, with the sun on it this morning.

Allaboutyou222 · 29/11/2021 15:49

Amazing winters drive into work this morning. -3. It had snowed overnight. Looked amazing.

DaisyNGO · 29/11/2021 15:53

hope this is the right thread to ask

does anyone have any thoughts on London weather, this week or next week?

looking online, I get all sorts. The cold is pissing me right off, I really want it to go away. There's even one odd forecast saying Wednesday will be better but Thursday will be shit freezing again.

excuse the swear words. I am very much hoping for a return to mild weather! It doesn't normally affect me this much but it feels really bitingly cold at the moment.

DaisyNGO · 29/11/2021 15:53

oh and I sleep badly anyway, but really noticed that my head was freezing last night! need a nightcap!
