Snow watch part 6 (!) / Easter 2018

As Snow watch part 5 is almost full, there's a few days of milder weather forecast and we're coming up to Easter, thought now would be a good time to start a new thread.

There are signs that winter might not be finished with us yet.

The run up to Easter could be wintry…

The forecast is fine by me..... I love my winter coat with its many pockets and always feel disgruntled when it get too warm to wear Blush

GloriaSmud · 21/03/2018 16:09

Well Perihelion, your winter coat might get plenty of use for a few weeks yet! The latest Outlook from the metoffice and they think we might have to wait until mid April for things to start properly warming up Shock

UK Outlook for Monday 26 Mar 2018 to Wednesday 4 Apr 2018:
There will be sunshine and showers on Monday, though rain is likely to spread in from the west later and through into Tuesday. Sunshine and showers following, these falling as snow over the high ground in the north. For the rest of this period, the weather will remain changeable, with showers and rain at times, interspersed by drier and brighter interludes. Snow may also occur at times, more especially in the north. Temperatures are likely to be rather cold, with a risk of overnight frosts. The Easter weekend is too far away to be confident with any details. The most likely scenario currently is a spell of colder than average weather, with increased likelihood of overnight frosts, and a greater than normal chance of snow showers, especially in the north.

UK Outlook for Thursday 5 Apr 2018 to Thursday 19 Apr 2018:
Colder than average conditions are likely to prevail overall; often showery with fairly light winds, and a continued chance of overnight frosts. Showers could be heavy with hail and thunder at times, but there are also likely to be good spells of sunshine in-between. Showers or longer spells of rain could fall as snow at times, mainly over higher ground and in the north. Any milder, wetter and windier spells are likely to be relatively short lived. Towards the middle of the month, it is possible that we could start to see some warmer temperatures, less cold nights, and it may become drier generally.

Just checking in to see if we will ever get any snow in north Cheshire as we've had a couple of centimetres at best all winter although it's been absolutely freezing!! Even at this late stage there is hope!

It's my birthday today and I'm often in flip flops by now!

Delatron · 21/03/2018 20:38

Does this mean the snow is coming early and be all gone by Easter Monday?!
I know it's too far away to tell but I am flying to warm climates then and if the snow scuppers me I'll be so cross!

hoochymama1 · 21/03/2018 20:57

Happy birthday snowie CakeThanks

Gertrudethestag · 21/03/2018 21:09

Gosh I thought that the SW would miss this but apparently we are likely to get some around the 31st March.

I have raynauds and usually I wear ski socks for a short while mid Winter otherwise my toes go blue. This Winter I have needed ski socks for months and I haven't even considered packing them away yet!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/03/2018 21:22

Please don't take those charts as actual where snow will be predictions. They are dependent on low pressures coming down from the north. Whether they develop as forecast and where they develop is still very much something that isn't nailed down.

GloriaSmud · 21/03/2018 22:37

Yes as OYBBK says, especially this far out, the charts are only possibilities at the moment. Things will change or might not happen at all.

My weatherman on FB is saying the same thing and combined with you two is normally right.

I know one of my favourite films is 'the day after tomorrow' but I didn't want to be living through it (unless I can snuggle up to Jake Gyllenhall)

megletthesecond · 21/03/2018 22:48

I really don't want snow on good Friday. DS is looking forward to going to a theme park with his mates and nasty weather might mean it's cancelled.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/03/2018 07:25

The northerlies look this morning to be a brief incursion, with the weather switching back to westerlies by the Saturday. (but bumping milder air into cold air so it shows a snowy transition)

The 00z run brings the low pressures in at more of an angle next week so that the picture looks less overall snowy. Less, rather than not.

As ever, we need the next model run to come out.

Gertrudethestag · 22/03/2018 07:44

When the sun comes out it is SO warm and lovely (Clinging on to this fact).

At least the sunshine has some ooomph now

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/03/2018 08:52

It is lovely. I think it's important to notice the bits of spring that are happening in between the snowy interludes.

GloriaSmud · 22/03/2018 09:34

'Tis indeed lovely out there today.
It's a warm 11.3C, the garden's almost dried out and we've got 10-12 clumps of frog spawn in the pond.

I might have to stop wearing my scarf..... indoors!

I read somewhere the worse the winter the better the summer, is that true?.

I much prefer winter and spring over summer so hope not Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/03/2018 12:43

I don't think there has been shown to be any correlation Pointless.

Gertrudethestag · 22/03/2018 14:47

I keep hearing that too pointless. Secretly glad that there is no correlation Wink

Moodykat · 22/03/2018 17:14

Please can we all pray for it to just fuck off?! Am moving from West Berkshire to Scotland on good Friday and I could really do without snow!

Delatron · 22/03/2018 17:28

I'm praying! I'm so over the cold. My heating bill is an absolute fortune. Doesn't look like it will warm up anytime soon either.
I feel for those who can't afford the heating on. This winter must feel endless.
