Just marking place and thanking you for the sterling work OYBBK and Gloria.

Hope you have some well deserved Wine tonight.

BackforGood · 02/03/2018 20:15

Yes, thanks for all the information.

StrumpersPlunkett · 02/03/2018 20:20

Travelling to Woodbridge in Suffolk tomorrow ladies any advice?
Snowing here in Cambridge for last couple of hours.

GloriaSmud · 02/03/2018 20:37

Strumpers ~ I think they're having snow at the moment and that will last overnight. They've had a lot of blocked roads in the area so might be worth leaving it 'til later tomorrow if you can (allows time to clear roads after tonights snow) and perhaps check here before setting out.

whatalifethisis · 02/03/2018 20:47

My DP left work nearly 4 hours ago and still not home. Battery dying on his phone was last text when he told me he was leaving. He charges his phone to full every single night so I don't know what's happened. We have a power bank yet neither of us thought about that.

I've just checked the trains and all trains cancelled for the for the last leg of his journey and I can't get the bloody car on to the main road to go and get him if I even knew where he was.

I wish he hadn't gone today but he was afraid of losing his job.

The roads here are lethal and there have been numerous crashes on the M20. If he would just come home I wouldn't even make him clean the bathroom this weekend.

GloriaSmud · 02/03/2018 20:48

BestIsWest ~ have had Wine and feeling....mellow Grin

Still snowing here (Leicester) I've just been out to measure how much we've had and we're up to 3cms. According to the metoffice, it was all supposed to have stopped by 8pm but it's still going and looking at the netweather radar, I can't see it stopping for a while yet.

Proper flood warnings map check it out if you are in the ne or sw.

Fog could be an issue tomorrow in the south over the snow fields.

Windy here still in east Cheshire. A big thank you to the volunteer 4x4 drivers who have driven nurses to and from work!
Also staff who slept in hospital accommodation last 2 nights.
I helped out on the wards today as staff slowly trickled in, they made it eventually.
It's windy here tonight and bitter. The weather apps have a 50% of more snow.

BestIsWest · 02/03/2018 21:02

Is that blob more snow?

BestIsWest · 02/03/2018 21:03

Or freezing rain?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 02/03/2018 21:05

what if his phone has got cold then that can affect the battery. Mine did this on weds. Was ok once it had warmed up again.

Thanks for the flood warning. Amongst all the snow it’s easy to forget that the storm + spring tide combination is bringing it’s usual problems.

FiveShelties · 02/03/2018 21:07

I live in NZ, flying back to UK next week and just wanted to thank everyone who posts on here. It is really interesting to read and obviously a huge amount of work goes in.

I arrive Manchester on Tuesday am and feel I will not need any beach wear!Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/03/2018 21:10

Best it's hard to know, showing as mostly snow but with rain on the back edge. I think it might turn to rain rain but over sub zero surfaces it might act like freezing rain somewhat.

PestoSurfissimos · 02/03/2018 21:10

Icy rain here now

DartmoorDoughnut · 02/03/2018 21:20

Thanks @OhYouBadBadKitten I’ll call him in the morning and try to persuade him to wait!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/03/2018 21:47

Picked up dh from a station not local. Looking at Twitter I'm so so glad he took that train after reading Twitter 'get home ASAP'. Feel for the passengers and the staff today. Everyone is doing their best

Gertrudethestag · 02/03/2018 22:15

Our beautiful coastline got a battering last night Sad high tides, flooding, wind and then freezing rain! Tonight we are due more flooding

How likely is it that snowgate will continue throughout March (after this & the subsequent thaw)?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/03/2018 22:25

I'm so glad you were able to pick him up gttia :)

Gertrude it seems fairly likely that March will continue to be cold for the northern half. Less cold perhaps in the south.

Thank you gloria😘

MrSlant · 02/03/2018 22:44

@Dartmoor (first time tagging so hope that works!) I'm quite close to where your father is and due to the steep hills whichever way he wants to get out of Newport I'd tell him to stay put until there's a good thaw. Too many very steep climbs on rural routes. Even if he gets past Carmarthen the M4 looks ridiculous, people were struggling yesterday and that was before today's snow. One of the snow ploughs crashed today whilst out clearing roads!

On the upside of that for me due to my prepping because of the weather threads the in the end unexpected snow dump we had this afternoon means we are happily stranded with plenty of food and lots of places to sledge without moving the car an inch. I spent a joyous afternoon watching people attempting to drive up the steep hill outside my house and even had a slow sledge myself. I know we are lucky not having to go anywhere but proper snow here is so unusual it was a delight to be able to enjoy it without worrying.

Although I was very puzzled that this thread had stopped yesterday until I remembered it was a snow day not Saturday Grin.

Just want to thank both OYBBK and Gloria for taking time out of your busy lives to update us with the weather. I know you're amateurs, but I look here before anywhere else when we have interesting weather. You always seem to be ahead of the pack with your forecasts.
