Morning! We had a good 8-10cm during yesterday's contribution. It's a balmy -1°C on the shed, the warmest it's been for a week. The wind has dropped and it's misty. I think a fox may have had a pootle in the garden overnight... if not, a cat with a big stride.

Another big thank you to OYBBK and Gloria. Thanks to these threads I was obsessively watching the radar and your updates, and I insisted on WFH on Thursday rather than going to London (2 hr plus journey). V glad, otherwise I'd have been caught in the Trainageddon nightmare on South Western. DH did go in (works more locally, scoffed at me but stuck a blanket and a shovel in the car anyway) - his employer closed the office after lunch and he made it home but was a hairy drive on rural roads. So thank you both!

South Shropshire hills this morning we have an additional 10cm of snow on top of yesterday, plus freezing fog and a hoar frost. Will be so pretty once the fog is gone!

I doubt the warming will reach here unless it's forecast to be at least 5c... up the hill we are always 3 to 4c colder than the towns

I'm supposed to have a garage conversion starting Monday... doubt that will get going maybe til midweek

Local fb group made me laugh this morning

Thank you OYBBK and Gloria and all MN snow companions, you made it possible for us to make an early decision to stay safe and get in provisions instead of getting stranded/into an accident and even more importantly helped me support my elderly Dad in cancelling a planned train journey through what ended up being a red warning area.

fb is so funny Grin

I had a bit of insomnia last night, so I was thinking of all the different forms of water we have all had this week. It's startling how a simple molecule can arrange itself. It's not an exhaustive list either, I've probably missed out loads.

rain
drizzle
freezing rain
freezing drizzle
sleet
sheet ice
snow (of different varieties)
graupel
ice pellets
hail
fog
freezing fog

Plus we've had lightning, a funnel cloud and the occasional sunshine.
That's not bad for one week!

Beginning to thaw here in Somerset. And we appear to have rain forecast all day. We have the longest driveway ever - old house with lots of land that was gradually sold off so our driveway goes to end of front garden and then takes a right in front of our neighbours as their house was built in what was our garden. Anyway - really don’t want to have to clear it! DH due back fiveish I hope. So really hoping it all buggers off without me having to clear a path for him. Don’t think taxi will come up and risk getting stuck.

That’s funny lubey. Some comedians have loaves of bread for sale on our local fb page.

Much warmer here and looks like we’ve had rain overnight.

@Eddierussett North London busy roads clear, side roads clearing fast. It's about 2C here about a mile from Ally Pally - you'll have no problems

You know these threads aren't just about the forecasts, people are being so helpful in advising each other about local conditions and travel. It's proper community support. Flowers to you all.

" It's proper community support. flowers to you all."

And that is why & also in recognition of all the work OYBBK & Gloria have done, that I have reported this thread to MNHQ & asked for it to be put in classics.

It shows the very best side of MN.

There's quite a lot of snow showing across the eastern side of Scotland on the radar. Some might be freezing rain.

Morning all, seems to be thawing in Pembs - not been outside yet to asses how much 'warmer' it is, but looking out the window there's a definite reduction in snow depth and the birds have found the seed that was buried by later snowfall yesterday!
