Snow watch part 4 - March is supposed to be spring right?

Usual disclaimer - Gloria and I are amateurs, fitting this in round our home and work lives. We do our best, we sometimes get things wrong! Please don't make important decisions based on what we say, always refer to the met office website first.

We've had heavy snow for a few hours in Reading now. I was able to get out this morning as the main roads were gritted and I live on a gritted road too. However, with the snow that has been coming down for a few hours now, the roads are looking worse than they did this morning. Definitely not going anywhere now!

South Midlands here. Heavy normal snow been falling here for a few hours now and it’s settling. Icicles everywhere too.

Mummylin ~ I suppose they'll have a pitch inspection ~ the pitch must be frozen after the last few days! If the match goes ahead, I hope they all have their thermals on (and that isn't just the supporters!)

Mocha - the A24 around Leatherhead is OK at the moment; the main problems are on the hills nearby, where, if you stop, you can't start again.

We were sent home at 2.30pm; my car was encased in a glaze of ice which took ages to chisel off, and I only just made it up the hill into our village, wheelspinning furiously. Loads of people turned around, but I couldn't face the diversion.

Still only a few cms of snow, and it seems to be fizzling out already but it's so icy; I'm not moving for the rest of the evening.

Coming down heavy again in Exeter, forecast is for rain but that is not happening.

We still have a lot of snow on the ground too. And a lot of ice on top of it.

So I wasn't expecting snow this morning but woke up to lots! Schools closed, traffic chaos!

So... the netweather forecast talks about the "beast from the east" coming back next week possibly? Not as severe and mostly affecting the east:

It then looks like turning increasingly colder from the east at the weekend, as high pressure builds and intensifies across Scandinavia, which looks to pull in an increasingly cold and raw easterly wind, the cold air sourced from a very cold Scandinavia and NW Russia.

So, we may see increasingly wintry showers develop towards eastern coasts. It doesn’t look like there will be any disruptive snow for now, and the cold won’t be as intense as the beginning of the month, but it will feel noticeably colder with a risk of overnight frosts."

One of the amateur meteorologists mentioned upthread (twitter.com/thesnowdreamer) is predicting another very cold snap - he reckons we could see snow in the south again!

Even I'm done with snow now, I'm so ready for spring! Unusually for me I'm actually hoping he's wrong!

Yep, looks like beast 2 is on its way. I imagine we will know for sure from Wednesday ish? Crazy isn't it! Beeb forecasting snow for Kent Saturday.
