Usual disclaimer - Gloria and I are amateurs, fitting this in round our home and work lives. We do our best, we sometimes get things wrong! Please don't make important decisions based on what we say, always refer to the met office website first.

Freezing rain an hour ago in Crawley - that was an experience! Now very fine snow.

DamnDeDoubtanceIsSpartacus · 02/03/2018 14:07

My goodness freezing rain is something else isn't it! That has to be one of the most dangerous weather types, the roads look wet but they are glazed in sheer ice! I am glad I've seen it, first time ever. Snowing and laying now in East Kent. I am hoping I'll get my one snowy walk in and take lots of photos before it all melts tomorrow.

No trains in East Kent so it was a good call to close the local schools. I think a red warning should have been issued, there have been reports of cars in ditches near us. I took a picture of the road, looks like nothing but it is lethal.

The BBC have just said that it should be getting warmer tomorrow with temperatures round us of a balmy 5 degrees or so, and even higher on Sunday - up to EIGHT degrees. Hope that helps to melt the ice and snow.

IWantMyHatBack · 02/03/2018 14:08

Freezing rain in West Ox, on and off. Its horrible out there.

MistyMeena · 02/03/2018 14:08

North Kent - freezing rain earlier now proper snow flakes Confused

whyhastherumgone · 02/03/2018 14:08

@ohyoubadbadkitten thanks for the advice, DH got the first train he could back and is now at home - was a good call as so many cancellations now.

No more snow in Essex, although forecast is showing 90% chance of heavy snow right now...really hoping that's the last of it.

The freezing rain sounds utterly terrifying :(

GloriaSmud · 02/03/2018 14:18

No snow so far here (Leicester) but it's due to start around 3pm. Looking at the colour of the sky and netweather's radar, it isn't far away.

MrsOH2004 · 02/03/2018 14:19

Snow starting in Northants, we are all home and not setting foot outside until work tomorrow.

Lupiform · 02/03/2018 14:22

DH's flight from Aberdeen is boarding! Hurray! However, we are quite near Heathrow and it has started to snow here - hope it can land OK!!

tapdancingmum · 02/03/2018 14:23

@FuzzyCustard - I hope that is right as DD has her birthday on Sunday and her very first driving lesson. It's mad isn't it?

IrenetheQuaint · 02/03/2018 14:25

Just started snowing in inner London. Fortunately, after four days of skidding along pavements and occasionally onto my arse, today I am working from home and not going anywhere.

whyhastherumgone · 02/03/2018 14:29

Hope he gets back okay @lupiform

Well looks like the freezing rain has arrived in Essex. We're at minus 2 and a heavyish shower has just started :-/

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 02/03/2018 14:30

No longer cut off here, they’ve managed to clear the main road. Still a good 3-4 inches at least on my road though. Stopped raining a while ago but still windy.

Look at the snow INSIDE Cardiff’s Victorian Arcades

Car was covered in ice from frozen rain when I got back to it. I've never seen that before. Really glad to be home now, in the warm, with soup, cake and tea!

brizzledrizzle · 02/03/2018 14:34

The freezing rain has been replaced by snow. I had to go out in the car but we are not going out now until after the weekend. it's awful out there.

whyhastherumgone · 02/03/2018 14:37

@bestiswest that's insane!

I saw on Instagram this morning a woman in Scotland who had woken up to find her door frozen from the inside with a massive block of ice covering it Shock

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/03/2018 14:40

Heavy snow has replaced the freezing rain where I am. All signs of gritting have been washed away.

same @ohyoubadbadkitten I just went to take the bins out and it's already like a sheet of glass out there.

whyhastherumgone · 02/03/2018 14:43

We seem to be flitting between bursts of heavy snow and freezing rain every 5 minutes. Glad we're fully stocked up with no need to leave the house for the entirety of the weekend...

MorvahRising · 02/03/2018 14:44

Snowing hard here now! Just off for a walk in about ten layers!

UnnecessaryFennel · 02/03/2018 14:45

Yes we now have snow, south London/Surrey borders. Netweather seems to suggest it's set in for a bit. Glad I don't have to go anywhere for the rest of the day!

BishopBrennansArse · 02/03/2018 14:49

On school run in Crawley. Told it's not like this at home though Sad

We just have horrid cold rain here in Essex, despite the Met Office saying there should now be heavy snow all afternoon!
