Usual disclaimer - Gloria and I are amateurs, fitting this in round our home and work lives. We do our best, we sometimes get things wrong! Please don't make important decisions based on what we say, always refer to the met office website first.

youarenotkidingme, thank you. She really is so beautiful. She's only 19 months and this is her third lots of snow but only second time it's been a decent amount for her.

Wind picking up in Beds, but no fresh snow. I'm so glad I forced DS to go to school in his coat.

hoochymama1 · 02/03/2018 11:37

Thanks Gloria for the birdie link, I have been fretting about the little blighters. So hard to keep putting fresh water out, it freezes in an instant.

FuzzyCustard · 02/03/2018 11:37

We had the freezing rain overnight. My windows are so covered in frozen blobs that they look exactly like the frosted bathroom glass. Anywhere the snow has blown off the roads/pavements is covered in what looks like glass.

I have been out this morning (to the village shop) and it is jolly slippery. There are cars abandoned on the hill outside the village....I'm not going anywhere in mine! But everyone in the shop and the village is checking on anyone who might need help, which is lovely.

tapdancingmum, yes close, other side of Wycombe!

It's not AJ but some gardening estate company! They are fab. He's just updated that the wind has now turned to the SE and Reading are getting our snow for now but we should still get some later this afternoon. Love a local forecast!

GloriaSmud · 02/03/2018 11:47

hoochymama ~ I worry about them too and been putting food out for them twice a day. They've gone through loads of it!

turnipfarmers · 02/03/2018 12:00

thanks for the bird feed link. I've put some out, they've been and had a bit but are ignoring it now, I guess they don't like it.

CointreauVersial · 02/03/2018 12:02

Beggars can't be choosers, turnipfarmers!

turnipfarmers · 02/03/2018 12:03

I was thinking that too Grin

sponkle · 02/03/2018 12:15

Thank you OYBBK and Gloria for your tireless updates and invaluable advice Flowers

DH due into Birmingham airport around 5 then has to get back to Loughborough...do you think he'd be mad to attempt the drive or might it be ok if he's just at the start of the predicted snowfall driving northwards from the south later today?

I've put some grated cheese out for the birds...theyre all over it!

GnTplease · 02/03/2018 12:26

@Appuskidu no it's my friends, thought it was an amazing pic though. We have some pretty crazy drifts. I'd say 8 feet in places!

youarenotkiddingme · 02/03/2018 12:29

Heavy big snowflakes falling across southern Hants for past 1/2 hour.
Radar looks like we are only place with snow - that would have to be a first - were usually the only place without it 🤣

WreckTangled · 02/03/2018 12:32

Heavy snow here too we're West Sussex/Surrey birder

tapdancingmum · 02/03/2018 12:33

@Delatron - that is AJ, his company is the gardening estate company.

We've just been up to Lacey Green to get some more hay for the pigs and some bird food and the Lacey Green straight is down to one lane in places. But we did pass a 300 bus so maybe they have started coming into the village now. Really windy up here now but the wagtail is enjoy the mealworms and sunflower seeds 'borrowed' from the hamsters.

ibbydibby · 02/03/2018 12:34

Norfolk here.

No significant snowfall since Wednesday, as far as am aware. Roads horrific all around. Snow blowing off fields and causing hold ups. Many many reports of various roads being "clear"/"passable", and then minutes later all backed up with cars, due to snow blowing into drifts on the roads. Snow ploughs have been out in last hour or so, but while there is still dry snow on the fields, guess the blowing is still going to cause drifting.

Limited bus service. Workplace (large employer) has actually emailed to say don't drive in. Have been using bus all week (apart from Wed, when no buses) but resorted to working at home today.

V v grateful to all those in critical jobs getting out there to do their bit.

MorvahRising · 02/03/2018 12:34

Agree about the birds, they are getting through the sunflower seeds at an amazing rate!

It seems to be raining here in Surrey. ☹️

BestIsWest · 02/03/2018 12:37

Unbelievably there’s a huge grass fire locally. The wind can’t be helping.

Friends have posted snow pictures with snow over the car bonnets just 25 miles away.

MorvahRising · 02/03/2018 12:38

. . . . . which is annoying because we’re not that far north of you, Wreck

frazzled3ds · 02/03/2018 12:38

Snowing again in Pembrokeshire (south west 5 miles from Tenby)

BestIsWest · 02/03/2018 12:38

Ignore that, it was the day before yesterday. Teach me to listen to DH.

GloriaSmud · 02/03/2018 12:39

There's a thread in Chat here for ideas on what to feed birds. I've just tried grated apple and cheese and already had a blackbird visitor.

MorvahRising · 02/03/2018 12:41

It’s turned to snow now!

Gosh, Best where is that? It doesn't look good.

MorvahRising · 02/03/2018 12:41

Oh well, hopefully it’s out by now then! Good photo though!

Delatron · 02/03/2018 12:44

Ahh tapdancingmum brilliant, he's very good!

GloriaSmud · 02/03/2018 12:47

sponkle ~ he might be OK. Perhaps stick to motorways/main roads for the journey home though.
