Usual disclaimer - Gloria and I are amateurs, fitting this in round our home and work lives. We do our best, we sometimes get things wrong! Please don't make important decisions based on what we say, always refer to the met office website first.

We've got around 3" on the Staffs/West Mids border.

MegBusset · 28/02/2018 19:15

Thanks Gloria! We've had a lovely snow day today, but in between trying to work from home and wrangling the kids and dog, I'll be quite happy if they can go back to school tomorrow Grin

TheColdDoesBotherMeAnyway · 28/02/2018 19:15

Hello OYBBK and thanks for your hard work Flowers

I am a bit confused by my met office app, we are in the Amber zone tomorrow and Friday (Swansea) BUT the actual forecast only has 2 snowcloud icons for the next 48 hours at 8 and 9pm tomorrow. The rest of the time is just showing as cloudy. We had a heavy shower at 6ish tonight (when the met office was forecasting sunshine Hmm) and that settled and then stopped so we’ve got about 1cm at the moment. What do you think? Confused

GloriaSmud · 28/02/2018 19:16

se22 ~ it could well be. Showers are coming from the east and once you get one, they follow on one after another a bit like a conveyor belt. So your phone might not be too far off the mark there.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 28/02/2018 19:17

Lots of snow in High Peak, currently falling as flinty little ice crystals that are making everything sparkle.

Fire blazing, curry bubbling away, beer poured. Sorted.

Think we're going to be snowed in for the foreseeable, DH has to go over the Cat and Fiddle to work which is a no-go and the children's schools are both at the top of hills and have already said it looks like they won't be open tomorrow.

Luckily I had A massive Ocado order a couple of days ago so am happy to sit tight!

PearlyG8 · 28/02/2018 19:17

Hello Gertrude just put on old thread we decided to stay put in Brighton. How is Falmouth doing? Feeling slightly concerned about DD and DGS.

WreckTangled · 28/02/2018 19:18

I saw on Facebook that your car insurance isn't covered in a red weather warning and sometimes not in Amber either.

Caroian · 28/02/2018 19:19

I just cross posted on to the end of the old thread, so will re-post here as well....

BBC and Met Office are partially agreeing for us for tomorrow for the first time in a while - both say we'll have snow again tomorrow, but the Met Office has it lasting longer. Thing is, we're in W Kent - aren't we too far East to expect more tomorrow?

frazzled3ds · 28/02/2018 19:22

The stuff about car insurance not covering you is NOT true. If you have a fully comprehensive policy you will be covered as normal. However your insurer will of course question whether you were driving with due care and attention, and I would imagine given the weather conditions query whether or not the journey was essential. If you are at all unsure of course, check with your insurer.

That was a very short lived evening out. Got a bit wild and snowy out there so we cancelled.

There seems to have been possibly a funnel cloud (tornado? that's not been confirmed yet) in Brixham today, out looking towards St Mary's. Anyone out that way have any information? please pm me if you do.

It's clearly a very unstable air flow we have, hence the various thunder snow events, snow coming out of nowhere and now this unconfirmed report,

I'm rather confused as to the predictions for East mids...
I'm N W Leics...
It's been odd. White outs then sunshine 😣
Any updates?

Some useful advice and info from the RAC for anyone who is out and about travelling:

Still waiting for some 'proper' snow here in Pembrokeshire - think we may get some tomorrow (Tuesday's offering was light and short lived!)

GloriaSmud · 28/02/2018 19:27

TheCold ~ (hope you don't mind me answering, OYBBK's out for the evening.) I think you might get freezing rain or snow tomorrow evening and overnight, it depends on the temperatures at the time. I suspect your location is one of those that the metoffice can't be totally sure about at the moment so it might be worth keeping an eye on.

IWantMyHatBack · 28/02/2018 19:27

Oh god, THUNDERSNOW?!

Grin

Clear skies over Brize atm, but apparently we're in for heavy snow overnight 😀😀😀

GloriaSmud · 28/02/2018 19:28

Oh, OYBBK's not out for the evening now Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/02/2018 19:28

Caroian, I think now there is a good chance for you to get more snow, looking at the radar and what's going on, it does seem that the SE is back in the firing line again.

ECM - it confirms what the met office have been talking about in their forecasts. Some forecasters thought that GFS was being too keen on blowing through cold and that it would be harder to shift than GFS suggested. I've totally sat on the fence on that one, I really haven't got a clue! All models have been showing the north retaining cold, but not as cold as it has been. The question mark has been over the south.

It will get temporarily milder in the south, it seems likely that some parts will see freezing rain in the SW tomorrow into Friday as milder upper air overrides the colder air, but after that, it seems more probable that we aren't stepping into Spring yet.

ConfusedDotty · 28/02/2018 19:29

Oh my. It’s worse than last night. The snow is just horizontal as the winds are so so strong and loud.

We’ve had thundersnow today.

This is the worst I have ever seen it. I am in South Tyneside practically on the coast.

If this is amber God only knows what red warning would look like. Keep safe.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/02/2018 19:29

We got 3 miles out, then it was cancelled! waaah!! Still it means more time for weather watching!

Checking in

HelenaDove · 28/02/2018 19:30

Braintree looks okish tomorrow fingers crossed.

WreckTangled · 28/02/2018 19:32

Thanks frazzled that's good to know.

ReinettePompadour · 28/02/2018 19:32

Sad Ive had a look at the latest and anyone 3 miles north of me are in the path of snow and anyone 3 miles south of me has snow. I however get nothing for the rest of the week. Im not sure if thats a good thing or bad outrageous placemark

BlessYourCottonSocks · 28/02/2018 19:33

Lincolnshire very snowy. Many schools closed. Not sure how it's looking for tomorrow but suspect drifting snow rather than more falling will be the problem?

Caroian · 28/02/2018 19:33

Thanks OYBBK

I'm trying to learn more about the weather so finding this all fascinating - thank you!

TheColdDoesBotherMeAnyway · 28/02/2018 19:34

Thank you Gloria Flowers

I have no plans for Friday but I am working tomorrow (walking distance if my office is open but if it isn’t safe to drive it’ll be a major hassle as I need to move between places) so as long as it holds off until late afternoon tomorrow and I can get the dds home and battern down the hatches it’ll be fine. I am expecting a Tesco delivery on Friday evening however 🤞
