Usual disclaimer - Gloria and I are amateurs, fitting this in round our home and work lives. We do our best, we sometimes get things wrong! Please don't make important decisions based on what we say, always refer to the met office website first.

It seems that local schools are announcing closures pre-emptively for tomorrow. I think local councils must be getting advice that it's going to get nasty.

pearly phew! I was worried about you. I am so relieved you stayed in Brighton. Falmouth was dreadful. It was taking people 2hours+ to get from Truro - Falmouth! The snow was just SO deep and visibility was horrendous.

The sun shone brightly again after the thunder-snow storm stopped which melted some of the snow in sunny spots. You can always visit the Harbour Lights webcam to check conditions if you are concerned. Lots of people were having fun once visibility went back to normal!

the wind is now picking up ( which is pretty standard )

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 28/02/2018 20:16

Yes the wind definitely picking up here too. No snow yet but isn’t predicted to start until early tomorrow morning.

Belindabelle · 28/02/2018 20:21

I am right in the middle of the red area. Never seen anything like this. Just had amazing thunder snow. We had it early this morning around 2am but I slept through it. I can see about 6 feet in front of me. Snow is drifting up to my window sil.

SnowiestMountain · 28/02/2018 20:21

Thanks so much OYBBK & Gloria really snowing hard in Cheshire t the moment, an exciting surprise!

Blizy · 28/02/2018 20:22

I'm in the red zone, north Lanarkshire. It's been blizzard like conditions most of the day, we have around a foot of snow and the drifts are deeper. Expecting more overnight and throughout tomorrow. It's like 2010 all over again!

GloriaSmud · 28/02/2018 20:23

Posted this on the other thread earlier ~ the Guardian's live blog that they've got running at the moment. Gives lots of up-to-date information on everything to do with the weather/travel.

threeelephants · 28/02/2018 20:25

Obbk, can you tell me if we're likely to get much in Birmingham? It's very cold and we've had lots of bursts of snow, but no more than a cm on the ground!
We'd love a day off school!

Thanks for the threads btw, fascinating!

turnipfarmers · 28/02/2018 20:27

Panic buying has started here, we've not managed to get any bread other than disgusting cardboard stuff for two days; roll on tomorrow when the local bakery is open and making fresh loaves!

notsomanky · 28/02/2018 20:27

Mum has nearly a foot of snow. Usually her proximity to the Clyde means snow is a rarity. Thankfully she had all her medication and plenty of food.

DH was meant to drive up to her on Friday and bring her back to us in Manchester for appointments with her Lupus consultant. That isn't going to happen now!
We are still having snow showers here but nothing too heavy

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/02/2018 20:28

threeelephants, probably tomorrow afternoon :)

OYBBK I’m going to pass that flow chart suggestion on to my anxious DS. Very good idea.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/02/2018 20:34

updated warnings to reflect the thames snow streamer. Looks like the met office are playing catch up.

Having lots of fun in County Durham! Yes, it's about up to his belly!

Snow watch part 4 - March is supposed to be spring right?
OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/02/2018 20:36

Met office are also warning of lightning being an additional harzard tonight, especially near the coast.

Cheers for the updates Kitten and Glorias never know the Snow watch thread to be so busy, your help is always appreciated Smile

Oogle · 28/02/2018 20:41

We’ve been included in the yellow warning area for tonight on the warning map but no snowflakes on the forecast. Tbh, a blanket of snow in the morning will make the decision making much easier 😄 so that’s what I’m hoping for!

I’m unashamedly wishing for snow - I’ve lived on the south coast all my life - we rarely get snow!

educatingarti · 28/02/2018 20:41

I am a bit confused. The met office forecast has no more snow for us ( greater Manchester) today, and maybe a shower or so at about 5:00 am tomorrow. The meteorradar sure you've linked to OYBBK gives us some great big blond of snow for between 11:00pm and midnight tonight. Can anyone help/explain/enlighten me?

hoochymama1 · 28/02/2018 20:44

Thanks Gloria and OYBBKGrinIt's a brilliant thread.

DS is taking the train tomorrow from Aberystwyth to Dorset to see DP who is expecting my first little Dgd Smile hope he gets through Shock

North Derbyshire here, about four inches of snow blizzards alternating with beautiful sunshine Hmm

Don't feel guilty about a snow day, just stay safe.

notsomanky · 28/02/2018 20:46

educatingarti I am just going with the snow shield being fully operational

PearlyG8 · 28/02/2018 20:47

Oooh Harbour Lights webcam Gertrude how fab! Grin

Hopefully we wil be down your way as soon as this extraordinary weather passes

Bejazzled · 28/02/2018 20:47

I've been watching the Flight Radar tracker tonight. The only flight not cancelled from Edinburgh was a Norwegian Airways plane to Connecticut. It took off, flew for about 10 minutes then circled back to Edinburgh Shock must've been scary for the passengers.

Sandsnake · 28/02/2018 20:48

Some heavy surprise snow in south west Surrey tonight courtesy of the streamer! It’s been said already but these threads have been awesome. Gloria and Kitten are the reason that I went out and bought a sledge last Tuesday - I was laughed at but now feel vindicated!

IWantMyHatBack · 28/02/2018 20:49

I can't believe how different the forecasts are. Met Office saying nothing until lunchtime tomorrow, but BBC saying heavy snow all night.

Think we must be right on the border of the worst of it

threeelephants · 28/02/2018 20:50

Ooh, exciting, thanks! Can you predict days off school? Grin
