Usual disclaimer - Gloria and I are amateurs, fitting this in round our home and work lives. We do our best, we sometimes get things wrong! Please don't make important decisions based on what we say, always refer to the met office website first.

OYBBK and Gloria, thanks for the amazing support you are giving everyone Flowers

I'm in Harrogate, North Yorkshire and I've been a nervous wreck for the last few days - I have pnd and pna and the unpredictability of the weather has really spiked my anxiety.....
anyway we're in between the two amber zones and just in yellow and trying to work out what tomorrow is going to bring - every forecast that I try to look at is different...

Perihelion · 28/02/2018 19:43

THUNDER snow and was outside and saw the lightning......I may combust with happiness GrinBlushGrin

GloriaSmud · 28/02/2018 19:43

BlessYourCottonSocks ~ you could still get some snow but yes, drifting from the strong wind could cause some problems.

FreeNiki · 28/02/2018 19:44

Winter runs from December 21st to March 21st. Still winter for a while yet.

MachineBee · 28/02/2018 19:45

A friend has a family funeral in south Black Country tomorrow afternoon. Will it be affected by difficult weather?

BrieAndChilli · 28/02/2018 19:45

We’ve had a few flurries in south Monmouthshire but nothing of note, lots of schools are closed tomorrow and our local supermarkets have been stopped bare. Will be funny if we have no snow tomorrow!

fortyfourfeasts · 28/02/2018 19:46

Hello to everyone on the new thread! Thanks again OYBBK and Gloria, I believe nothing until you guys mention it!
Back from snowy Derbyshire and now awaiting snow in Nottingham. DH and I got very excited when you mentioned Nottingham, kitten!

DartmoorDoughnut · 28/02/2018 19:46

I cannot wait for snow! Not had any proper snow since we moved here (edge of Dartmoor) will report in if/when it starts if that helps?!

GuinefortGrey · 28/02/2018 19:46

Still no proper snow here in North Wilts south of Swindon but oh my word the icy wind is unreal. First time in history the ponies galloped up to the gate as soon as I called them in their keenness to come in!!!
Soaked hay freezing on the top of the bucket within minutes and the water buckets inside thick-walled stone stables frozen solid (that has never happened before even on the coldest nights).

Dog very unsettled this evening so wonder if he senses snow in the air hopeful.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/02/2018 19:46

awww MummytoGregor, it does look as though you will get more snow tomorrow morning, are you able to hunker down? I hope that it will calm down by the afternoon, but I'm afraid I can't guarantee that.

I have a hospital appointment tomorrow. That'll be fun to get to!

DartmoorDoughnut. Yes please! I'll be fascinated to see how bad it gets there.

Waving to Gloria in Leicester!! we have snow!! Knew my snow dance would pay off! Hope we get a bit more kids are so excited !

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/02/2018 19:51

MachineBee, I'm afraid so :( I'm unsure as to when the snow will arrive there, early afternoon?

I'm really conscious that people may be making decisions based on what Gloria and I are saying. I do worry that if we get it wrong, we could be causing real issues for people. Please do remember that even experienced professionals with access to much more data than we have get it wrong, we have limited tools and we are amateurs.

I might be saying that a lot.

icantdothis2017 · 28/02/2018 19:54

Safe .

Still can't believe a red warning issued

GloriaSmud · 28/02/2018 19:56

Woohoo, that's excellent news Everybody!

gttia · 28/02/2018 19:56

Oybbk/gloria - always understand that. Love your posts though!

HelenaDove · 28/02/2018 19:59

I do hope the NHS will use their common sense and not senselessly just mark ppl down as a no show if they get stuck in traffic due to the weather.

TheWoollybacksWife · 28/02/2018 20:00

I am amazed at how towns only a few miles apart have such different snow amounts I'm only about 20 miles away from Gloria and we have had snow on and off all day today. There's possibly 3-4" on the ground now with more forecast for overnight and tomorrow morning.

Both DS and I are hoping for a snow day tomorrow but just in case he has to go in I'm turning up the trousers of his World Book Day costume while following this fascinating thread and trying not to obsess over senior school allocation day tomorrow.

I missed it on the other thread but did @ShowOfHands get any snow?

Perihelion · 28/02/2018 20:01

I really recommend a rainfall radar app like rain alarm, then you can see what's heading your way and the intensity of showers. I usually use it to time my dog walking for the drier spells. At the moment I'm watching the snow showers coming in off the North Sea.

BachAtTheMoon · 28/02/2018 20:02

My son is desperate for snow here in North Devon. DH says we won't get any and has even said he'll pay any penance I want if he's wrong! Here's to hoping!!

MummyTheGregor · 28/02/2018 20:04

Thanks OYBBK - Yeah I can hibernate if there's no school but won't know that till the morning - I know its irrational to be so nervous about it all I'm not normally so bonkers and can enjoy the unexpected snow days!
Thanks again Flowers

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/02/2018 20:05

I agree Peri, I use weatherpro but this website looks quite good:
meteoradar.co.uk/realtime-snowfall#

However people need to realise that sometimes snow can just seemingly 'pop up' or fizzle out. Need to watch for false radar returns too, but I wouldn't worry too much about that.

GloriaSmud · 28/02/2018 20:05

TheWoollybacks ~ it is surprising, isn't it? I think once these streams of a weather-type (in this case snow showers) comes along, it feeds in more behind it so you get that weather for some time.

Hope you get your chosen school tomorrow. You reminded me that I was doing the same thing this time last year when it came to DD3 and her school I might have cried a bit when we got our chosen school

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/02/2018 20:06

When I've struggled with anxiety MummyTheGregor I've written myself a flow chart to follow and on it put on all the scenarios I can think of and what action I should take should it happen. It helps stop it going round and round my mind.

Helena, I hope so too!
