Usual disclaimer - Gloria and I are amateurs, fitting this in round our home and work lives. We do our best, we sometimes get things wrong! Please don't make important decisions based on what we say, always refer to the met office website first.

Ok weather has changed now saying heavy snow here all overnight too

summersgoneaway · 28/02/2018 21:44

Really windy here

whyhastherumgone · 28/02/2018 21:46

Thanks @ohyoubadbadkitten that makes sense. It was thoroughly confusing me! The forecasts seem to be a little behind at the moment, when I've checked they've all been showing 'now' as being a couple of hours ago - and Met Office keeps crashing! Bet this is the most traffic its had for a while!

MayhemandMadness01 · 28/02/2018 21:47

Had a little snow earlier but by heck its blardy cold now

DustyOwl · 28/02/2018 21:50

I've been lurking all evening but can't hide my excitement. It never snows here (Poole). My boys have never seen snow. Any chance we will see some that will stick? (I am sorry for those stuck in loads of snow though. I just can't believe we might see a bit!)

blueskyinmarch · 28/02/2018 21:52

It has got wild here now in St Andrews. No idea what I might wake up to tomorrow.

Appuskidu · 28/02/2018 21:53

Any ideas if that’s it for Essex? The Met Office shows nothing more for here now!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/02/2018 21:54

DustyOwl I'm pretty confident you'll get sticking snow tomorrow. :)

Do we have any idea how much Dartford/Orpington will get thought or tmrw? I'm needed in work tmrw and schools not making any decisions till the morning!

Trailedanderror · 28/02/2018 21:55

The snow seems very 'dry' it's falling fast and horizontal here in South London.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/02/2018 21:55

Appu you may get a little more.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/02/2018 21:58

gttia I don't think you'll get a huge amount more.

I'm getting worn out and tomorrow will be a busy one, so I'm going to sign off from the thread now. I'll be up early. Good night all. What will be, will be.

Sleep tight Kitten, dream snowy dreams. Smile

whyhastherumgone · 28/02/2018 22:03

Thanks for all your help Kitten :)

SoleBizzz · 28/02/2018 22:07

When will tbe storm hit Birmingham? I am freezing here and outside car temp displayed -3 at 6pm!

Frouby · 28/02/2018 22:07

I am going daft looking at all the forecasts.

Have decided that we are either fucked tomorrow and friday. Or not fucked. I don't think anyone knows for sure. Forecast keeps going from heavy snow from tomorrow to Sunday to an odd shower here and there.

UrsulaPandress · 28/02/2018 22:07

More snow.

whyhastherumgone · 28/02/2018 22:12

Same here @frouby -I've shut down all my forecast tabs now as they don't seem to be aligning with what's actually happening here anyway.

We now have light but fast snow in Essex - as in squint at the streetlamps in the dark and you can see it whizzing by. Think I'm going to get another cup of (decaf) tea, whack the electric blanket on and huddle down for the night.

educatingarti · 28/02/2018 22:12

The Manchester snow shield has been breached!

CointreauVersial · 28/02/2018 22:17

DD1's 6th form college have decided to close tomorrow (East Surrey). There is bugger all snow! What do they know that we don't?

IrenetheQuaint · 28/02/2018 22:25

My friend in Edinburgh has just had thundersnow Envy

magimedi · 28/02/2018 22:33

Gloria & OYBBK - you are amazing to devote so much of your time to this thread.

I look here before the Met Office or any other weather site.

No snow here (3 miles inland of Eastbourne) but very strong wind & bitterly cold. Was out this afternoon & both DH & I ( aged mid 70's & mid 60's) both said that we can not remember such arctic conditions for a long time.

Still longing for summer & a heatwave thread! Grin

youarenotkiddingme · 28/02/2018 22:35

So is Hampshire going to get the dump we've been warned about? (South coast?)
And if so what time do you expect? Most schools are opening until 1pm but reports i get are snow from 7am!

MrSlant · 28/02/2018 22:36

Well I've spent the afternoon going, FFS stupid council, how can they close schools for two days on the backing of the current forecast (looking on the BBC/Netweather) then came out of DS2's piano lesson at 5.30 to the start of near blizzard conditions. By the time we'd driven the 7 minutes to near home the main roads were white and visibility was severely reduced. We must have had a good inch of snow (going by the reliable 'parked car roof index') in 15 minutes in the end. Pavements treacherous and side roads white. I have locked us all in the house and am happy to stay in, I can't imagine what an hour of that weather would have brought.

Gloria I am re-directing many rolled teenage eyeballs at you, after your first mention of the SSW (must have been weeks ago now!) I've learned as much as I can and followed loads of different forums so when DS2 wailed "why is it so cold" in his miserable honking teenage voice I went 'well, over a week ago now there was an event called sudden stratospheric warning and this caused...' Grin.

Envy to any of you who got to enjoy thundersnow.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 28/02/2018 22:37

Our snow shield has been breached too. I can see a few flakes starting to come down.
