really gttia? That's responsible of them. Slightly surprising for a yellow warning, but TFL are warning of potential issues, so I can see the logic.

If people get stranded in silly shoes, I've read that wearing socks over shoes can help sometimes (just don't step indoors like that I reckon if you don't want to go arse over tit)
I've not tried it though.

North Kent, south east London. Think of a bridge across the Thames.
The railways are saying to complete journeys before 6pm. Emergency planning has kicked in at work...

Hasn't really stopped snowing here in Essex yet, only fine snow though. I think we're meant to get a lot this evening/early hours of tomorrow.

LouiseCollins28 · 26/02/2018 13:01

Driving through Cambridgeshire heavy snow showers but not all the time. In one just now lol (stationary atm)

notsomanky · 26/02/2018 13:03

The sun disappeared and it's just started to snow - the flakes are small but its fairly heavy. Enough to bring the cat in. He is now clearly blaming me.

turnipfarmers · 26/02/2018 13:06

We have snow flurries ending soon according to Accuweather but we haven't had much at all. I am hoping for more.

Riverside2 · 26/02/2018 13:09

@notsomanky "He is now clearly blaming me."

This is sort of surprising, given that I think usually cats have more power than humans.

GrouchyKiwi · 26/02/2018 13:12

OYBBK When I was at uni in Dunedin the students who lived up in the hills would wear socks over shoes on frosty days to help with grip. So it must work!

notsomanky · 26/02/2018 13:14

Riverside2 You would think so, but he usually blames me for anything weather related! Grin

He should have hung around outside - the snow has stopped and the sun is out again, but in the 5 minutes it snowed the base of the trampoline has been covered in snow!

gillybeanz · 26/02/2018 13:14

Just started here in East Lancs.
We are usually protected by the pennines though, so not expecting much. Seems to have stopped again whilst I was writing this Grin
Can't see it being much tbh.
All these warnings and anticipating problems from a bit of snow is ridiculous.
I don't mean this thread, but the media and in general.

Riverside2 · 26/02/2018 13:18

socks over shoes....could this be the answer to my complete inability to walk on slippery pavements?

drivinmecrazy · 26/02/2018 13:20

Possibly (probably) a very silly question, but how does the met office update the local hourly forecasts so regularly and frequently.
Is it all computerised or do the ever changing predictions have an element of actual human input?
I ask as someone who, primarily thanks to this thread, has become overly obsessive with frequently refreshing my local forecast and seeing it change so rapidly.
I really need to get back to real life soon but cannot quite tear myself away from this thread, met office page and staring in anticipation out of my window

OverlyYappy · 26/02/2018 13:21

Can someone link to the new thread please. I can't find it

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/02/2018 13:22

gilly from previous experience the warnings from the met office are justified as we are so crap at dealing with snow! It doesn't take much to cause genuine chaos and it's been five years since much of the south have seen proper snow.

Some of the hype though is a bit much (understatement)

It's fascinating to see how strong the sun is at this time of year. Despite temperatures at 0c the sun is managing to melt any snow that falls here at present.

I really do not like the freezing rain that is showing up for parts of central southern england for Friday. It's utterly lethal. There are two weather phenomena I absolutely hate: freezing rain and freezing fog. Creates an ice glaze over everything, so that it's impossible to even stand up. Let's hope that it doesn't happen and given the way the models keep evolving for friday there is a good chance it will change.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/02/2018 13:23

driveinmecrazy yes it is fully automated :) however it's not the same model that creates automated forecasts for all the other websites and apps ( I think, but could be wrong nowadays, that they all still use GFS)
I don't actually know what the met office use for their automated output. One of their own models I expect.

new thread Yappy :) is this one getting a bit clunky for you? It's nearly full now.

OP posts:
ClosDesMouches · 26/02/2018 13:30

waving back at Snowiest, anything more for you? Still not a flake here.

OYBBK no it was my mistake, I thought I'd posted on the wrong thread again. I need gin!
Glad we're getting this one up to 1000 before moving across.

icantdothis2017 · 26/02/2018 13:32

Freezing rain !?
That sounds worse than snow

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/02/2018 13:32

Grin at gin. I think hot toddies all round myself.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/02/2018 13:33

icantdothis, let's hope the models as they stand are wrong eh? It's far worse than snow.

OP posts:
Muchtoomuchtodo · 26/02/2018 13:34

Bet we don't get anything here (near Cardiff).
Cold with clear blue skies - beautiful.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/02/2018 13:36

Muchtoo, keep an eye out for Thursday.
