Will Hurricane Ophelia manage to hit the UK?

Not been much in the news about it yet, other than a few small articles. Anyone else notice it's due to be getting very close to the UK?

Looks like it's still meant to be hurricane strength when it hits Ireland early next week, before taking a swipe at Scotland. I thought the water was meant to be too cold and they normally fizzle out into winter storms.

First British hurricane since Debbie in 1961?

Such a weird west Wales day. Taking DS3 into school the sky was a bizarre colour and it was so warm, he said it 'smells like we're on holiday' Smile. Then they closed all the schools so we are now all cwtched up indoors listening to the wind hooting down the side pass whilst the trees twirl about. Lots of roads blocked with trees and the ones I've had to drive down are littered with debris and some intimidating size branches. Power is out to the north and south of us but not here .

Wasn't expecting this at all, there needs to be a word for unexpected afternoon/evening off normal life! Watching earth::null and getting hypnotised.

A hairy landing, great work from the pilots! Shock

Maudlinmaud · 16/10/2017 15:18

My patio doors blew open. They where locked and open out ways. I've had to put a block up against them from the outside. I have now used my entire collection of block's folks. So that's it.
Meanwhile the cats are sitting in the windows enjoying watching all the leaves and littlest dd has built a fort.

CollieBobs · 16/10/2017 15:22

Maud Shock blimey!!

gttia · 16/10/2017 15:26

In south east London and the sky is red, it's blustery and feels very odd. It's warm though but sky is a very funny colour

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 16/10/2017 15:28

Shock Maud

Maudlinmaud · 16/10/2017 15:29

Yes Collie I'm a wee bit scared. My garden has plenty of shade too but my patio doors are raised up quite a bit with steps down into the garden so that's probably the reason. Feeling quite vulnerable at the moment. I don't want my trees or trampoline to go flying and injure someone.

mummypleeeaaaasseeee · 16/10/2017 15:36

Is it getting any weaker? Any news on that.
Also does anyone think it will get to Highlands at all? Initially wason the path but not sure anymore maybe a bit more west now?
In any case we have put our garden furniture away and my roses

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/10/2017 15:40

Blimey Maud.

I’ll be able to give an update to where things are at in an hour. Meeting to go to first.

safariboot · 16/10/2017 16:04

Sunny now in Brum. Hope people are alright further west.

3luckystars · 16/10/2017 16:07

Our fence is gone and I’m hoping the worst has gone past now. There are flood warnings now so it’s not over yet.

We did Hamlet in school and I always disliked that Ophelia one.

Maudlinmaud · 16/10/2017 16:12

Luckystars roughly where are you?
I'm sorry about your fence.

Jigsisaw · 16/10/2017 16:14

Bored of it now. Feel like stepping out in to the back garden to pick up all the apples. I won't bring my pocket chain saw though,

I love the Happy Pear boys getting grief for taking a swim this morning. It was like Saint Tropez in June earlier today fgs. And everybody knows bad things don't happen in Greystones. Their haterz do be vile. I

Jigsisaw · 16/10/2017 16:16

I loved Ophelia! I did Hamlet as well.

She uttered one of the best put downs ever and highlighted double standards when she reprimanded Laertes. Do not good brother as some ungracious pastors are wont to do, show me the steep and thorny path to heaven whilst like a puffed and reckless libertine, himself the primrose path of dalliance treads, and wrecks not his own reed.

She wasn't a sap there.

BiddyPop · 16/10/2017 16:25

The mother of a classmate of mine died in the 30 years ago storm.

DSis says dual carriageway between Midleton and Carrigtwohill is closed but all seem safe.

DH says Dun Laoghaire getting blowy but ok. But he has a Cub scout to rescue him😀

BiddyPop · 16/10/2017 16:26

I'm sorry for the dead, but it will probably be blown out before I get home (eerily calm I. Central Europe)..

Jigsisaw · 16/10/2017 16:27

The second death was more of a chainsaw death imo.

WHAT was he doing? Confused

butterflymum · 16/10/2017 16:35

@maudlinmaud, power outages starting to appear across NI now too powercheck.nienetworks.co.uk/

drinkswineoutofamug · 16/10/2017 16:36

We have blue skies in Cheshire, very warm and just tried to dry my sheets 😬 admitted defeat. There’s a strange smell in the air. Plus note got a full line of towels dry! Keeping an eye on my NDN huge tree which is doing the high wind boogie

Maudlinmaud · 16/10/2017 16:39

butterfly thankfully we still have power. Have you lost it? The wind is blowing up every so often but nothing major just a few seconds at a time. I've noticed it's got a bit chillier.

butterflymum · 16/10/2017 16:40

...and NI schools remaining closed tomorrow.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/10/2017 16:56

reportedly the rook has blown off Cork stadium.

MynewnameisKy · 16/10/2017 17:00

It's very wild here now in Southern NI. If you are in West Scotland now would be the time to get ready. It's coming your way.
